Kasparov Questions Carlsen's Intentions vs Gukesh, Claims Teen Star Has Shaken Magnus' Supremacy
This 18-year old Indian has already been making headlines in this year's Norway Chess with his classic victory over Carlsen. GUKESH defeated Carlsen playing white, something that has been regarded as a weak point in his chess for a long time, just days after Carlsen himself had expressed surprise at Gukesh's potential in rapid chess.
'I have never seen any indication in his rapid and blitz results that Gukesh was going to do this. He has, obviously, but I'm sure many can play good tournaments from time to time.
Kasparov said, 'We can now begin to question Magnus' dominance', after Gukesh's second victory against the world No. 1.
Gukesh vs Carlsen has more than met that challenge. The Indian teenager, who lost in the first round to Jan-Krzysztof duda, has bounced back spectacularly, winning against Alireza Firouzja and R Praggnanandhaa before going on to beat Nodirbek Abdusattorov.
Gukesh has been lauded by Garry Kasparov for his focus and poise throughout the event. 'D Gukesh India is one of those opponents you have to beat more than once to really gain the edge. The revenge factor was clear in Carlsen's opening — and that's never a great state of mind in high-stakes chess,' it wrote."
"Resilience as computers"
Kasparov also praised D Gukesh chess for his mental strength and focus during the tournament. "His resilience makes me think of computers. If you lose your concentration with computers, you are done. It added that Gukesh's win was not because of a fluke or mistakes by Carlsen – it was a real chess fight and Magnus did all he could, but Gukesh played better.
Gukesh is still 21 rounds into the blitz, but he has already left a lasting mark, cemented his place in the elite of the world and silenced doubters with his statement victory over the best of the game.

Jamie Smith Breaks Kapil Dev's Record Of Fastest Century In India-England Tests
Last Updated: After coming out to bat at No. 7 for England in the first innings of the 2nd Test, Jamie Smith completed his century in 80 balls. Wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith entered his name in the history books on Friday (July 4) by scoring the fastest century in a Test match played between India and England. After coming out to bat at No. 7 for England in the first session of the third day's play of the ongoing second Test at Edgbaston, Smith smacked Indian bowlers to all corners of the ground and completed his maiden Test century against India in just 80 balls. He crossed the 100-run mark by hammering Ravindra Jadeja for a four on the third ball of the 47th over of England's first innings. Before Smith, the record of scoring the fastest Test century in the India-England Test was held by Kapil Dev. Kapil completed his century in just 86 balls against England at Green Park Stadium in 1982. The previous record of scoring the fastest Test century by an English batter against India was in the name of Ben Duckett. Duckett completed his century in 88 balls against India at Nirajan Shah Stadium in Rajkot last year. Fastest century in Tests for England against India The overall record of scoring the fastest century in Test cricket against Team India is in the name of former Australian opener David Warner. Warner needed just 69 balls to complete his century against India during the Test match played at WACA in Perth from January 13 to 15 in 2012. Warner is followed by AB de Villiers of South Africa, who crossed the 100-run mark in 75 balls during the December 2010 Test played at SuperSport Park in Centurion. Pakistan's Shahid Afridi completed his century in 78 balls against India at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore in January 2006. Fastest century in Tests vs India Smith's 80-ball century against India in Birmingham on Friday is the joint third-fastest by an English batter in the five-day format of the game. The overall record for scoring the fastest century in Test cricket is in the name of former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum. In the first innings of his farewell Test, which was played against Australia in Christchurch in February 2016, McCullum completed his century in just 54 balls. Neeraj Chopra Classic — a milestone moment in Indian athletics
The Neeraj Chopra Classic, which will be held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Saturday, signifies a milestone moment in Indian athletics. This is India's maiden international javelin competition in a World Athletics Category A meet. The strong field of 12, which includes co-host and home favourite Neeraj Chopra, consists of elite Olympic and World champions. For Neeraj, bringing an extravaganza of this magnitude to home shores is a dream come true. 'I feel like I'm in a dream. Medals are a different thing. But I have given something like this to India and Indian athletes. I'm very happy about that. This is the beginning of a new chapter in our athletics,' Neeraj said. 'There are so many international competitions in countries like Germany every week — A, B, C category events. That's what I want here in India, at least four to five world-class meets every year. Our athletes should get these opportunities and the public should watch them live. I never thought such an event would take place. I am at peace... I'm able to give something back to India,' Neeraj added. The 27-year-old two-time Olympic medallist is set to break all barriers. Tickets, priced between ₹299 and ₹9,999, are selling quickly. There are over 20 sponsors on board for this one-day competition. Such heightened interest has never been seen before for an Indian athletics event. Neeraj, who at the Doha Diamond League broke the 90m mark for the very first time, is among the favourites to claim the title. By his own admission, Neeraj is distracted with tournament organisation duties. But come Saturday, when the big crowd cheers his every move, Neeraj is bound to produce his best. Fans can expect serious competition from the likes of Germany's Thomas Rohler (2016 Olympic champion), Kenya's Julius Yego (2015 World champion), USA's Curtis Thompson (2023 Pan American Games champion) and Brazilian powerhouse Luiz Mauricio da Silva. Sachin Yadav — touted as Neeraj's successor — Rohit Yadav, Sahil Silwal and Yash Vir Singh are the other Indians in the fray. The NC Classic was shifted to Bengaluru from Panchkula due to floodlight issues at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium. The India-Pakistan tensions also led the event to be postponed. All these blips will become a mere footnotes once the spears pierce the Bengaluru night sky. The field: Neeraj Chopra, Cyprian Mrzyglod (Pol), Luiz Mauricio da Silva (Bra), Thomas Rohler (Ger), Curtis Thompson (USA), Martin Konecny (Pol), Julius Yego (Ken), Rumesh Pathirage (Sri), Sachin Yadav, Rohit Yadav, Sahil Silwal, Yash Vir Singh.
