You can now book a Smurf mushroom house experience on Airbnb
This summer, two families will have the chance to live like Smurfs – well, sort of. Airbnb is offering an exclusive, four-hour experience to coincide with the release of Smurfs, which will take place in the Belgian Woods, where the idea for these characters was born.
Nicolas Tytgat, grandson of creator Peyo, will be hosting the experience alongside 'Papa Smurf', and there's a load of activities on the itinerary where you'll get properly stuck in with the Smurf lifestyle.
Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by your hosts with a 'smurfberry drink', and have the chance to make your own Smurf hat; turn your hand to some archery in the woodland, gorge on a Smurf-inspired picnic and, most excitingly, learn from a Smurf-trained choreographer a routine to perform on the open-air forest stage.
It's a jam-packed day, right? To finish it off, you'll get a scoop of Smurfberry ice cream – oh, and you'll get to keep your hat afterwards. Can't let those top-tier designs go to waste.
'I grew up surrounded by the magic of the Smurfs, so to bring fans to Belgium, the birthplace of the Smurfs, and into the world that my Grandad created, is something truly special,' said Tytgat, 'This is a one-of-a-kind experience and I cannot wait to share this moment and our family stories with Airbnb guests.'
Two of these four-hour sessions are taking place on Sunday August 3, for up to four people each, and booking opens on July 16 at 11am BST. The best part is that all of this is for free (you'll just have to cover your transport). It's first-come, first-served, so make sure you're ready on this page when the bookings go live!

North Korea's new ‘Benidorm' resort mysteriously BANS foreign tourists days after opening – following years of delays
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) NORTH Korea has mysteriously banned foreign tourists from its shiny new seaside resort just days after opening - following years of hype and farcical delays. Dubbed the "North Korean Benidorm", Wonsan-Kalma Coastal Tourist Zone was supposed to spearhead Kim Jong-un's drive to boost international tourism - but the fun is over already. 13 Kim has closed off his new tourist resort to all foreigners Credit: Reuters 13 The sea did not look particularly inviting for the first batch of visitors Credit: AFP 13 Kim waved to adoring fans at an opening ceremony at the end of June Credit: AFP 13 A North Korean man makes the most of the water park at Wonsan after it opened Credit: AFP The Costa del Sol-inspired resort - complete with beaches, waterparks and a strip - had been promoted to international tourism markets. Wonsan threw open its doors to much fanfare on July 1, with footage showing Kim beaming in front of jack-rabbiting crowds and sitting back watch "volunteers" fly down waterslides. But then a notice popped up on the national tourism website slapping a "temporary" ban on all overseas visitors. According to state-run North Korean news, a group of 15 Russian holidaymakers rocked up last week - around the same time Russia's Foreign Minster Sergei Lavrov visited Kim in Wonsan. Lavrov heaped praise on the "good tourist attraction" and said he hoped it would become a popular hols spot for Russians. NK News said the Russians had been "wowed" by "lavish ten-dish meals", "eerily good service" and "endless beaches". Other eager Russians will no doubt be disappointed to miss out on this mind-boggling experience. And a Russian tour guide previously told NK News that they had planned several more trips to the resort in the coming months - but not anymore. The chance of other international travellers being permitted a peak behind the curtain is looking evermore remote. Hundreds of Brits put their name down when a travel firm, On The Beach, set up a page for people to express their interest in visiting Wonsan. Kim Jong Un sheds tears over North Korean troops killed in Ukraine The city is where Kim spent much of his youth, among holiday villas, maritime infrastructure - and missile facilities. The dictator oversaw the project himself, and was reportedly inspired by the way Europeans choose to holiday in countries like Spain. He is even said to have dispatched a team to the Costa del Sol to take notes and report back. The result is a 2.5-mile stretch of beachfront lined with restaurants, hotels for 20,000 people, shopping malls and water park. 13 Kids were pictured splashing around in the swimming pool Credit: AFP 13 The strip running along Wonsan before it was officially opened Credit: AFP 13 A mock-up of Kim on Spain's Costa del Sol - which is said to have inspired Wonsan 13 Kim has proudly inspected the construction project several times over the years - and returned at the end of June for a bizarre opening ceremony. And declared that the completed project would go down as 'one of the greatest successes this year' and hailed the site as 'the proud first step' towards a thriving tourism industry. But the work did not always go according to plan - and was repeatedly stalled by a range of problems. At one point, the site was even overrun by homeless wanderers - known as "kotjebi" in North Korea - who filled the empty hotels with faeces. 13 Kim cutting the ceremonial ribbon Credit: AFP 13 These ladies braved the grey weather and took to Wonsan's beach Credit: AFP 13 Kim shows his daughter Kim Ju Ae around the inside of one of the hotels Credit: Reuters If overseas visitors are ever allowed in, campaigners have warned that nobody's safety is assured. Greg Scarlatoiu, director of the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea, said a trip there would be unsafe and immoral. He said: 'The Wonsan-Kalma resort was built with forced labour. Vacationing there is morally and ethically wrong – it is truly an abomination. 'Having Russian nationals vacation there is testament to the pathetic isolation of both Russia and North Korea.' Past tourists in the country have even lost their lives. Greg gave the example of Otto Warmbier, an American student arrested on dubious charges during a trip to Pyongyang in 2016. Accused of taking down a propaganda poster, he was detained for 17 months. 13 The dictator said the new opening marked a new chapter in North Korea's tourism industry

Five iconic London buildings you'll be able to access for free in Open House 2025
If you're the kind of nosy neighbour who's always peering out from behind your front curtains whenever there's even a whiff of some drama happening outside, you'll love Open House. The annual festival takes place every September, and offers curious Londoners a rare chance to pull back the curtain and go through the keyholes of some of the capital's most renowned – and often most secretive – buildings, completely free of charge. From historic royal dwellings to magnificent specimens of modern architecture, churches and bridges to art studios and municipal buildings, a whole load of interesting real estate across nearly every London borough is open for snooping during the festival, which returns from 13-25 September. Having partnered with Airbnb, Open House is promising its biggest and boldest festival yet in 2025, with over 800 events on the programme, announced earlier this week. So to help you decide which spots are most worth snooping around ahead of bookings going live on Wednesday 20 August., we've rounded up some of the most iconic London buildings taking part this year. The 5 best buildings to visit during Open House 2025 Lincoln's Inn The oldest of London's four Inns of Court – its records date all the way back to 1422 – Lincoln's Inn has been home to London's elite legal minds for more than 600 years. The 11-acre site encompasses an array of facilities used by its members, including the Grade I-listed Old Hall and Grade II-listed Great Hall, a chapel, one of the UK's most important law libraries and a variety of lecture theatres and meeting rooms. Usually closed to the public, Open House is a very rare chance for a peek inside these historic corridors of power at it's open day, when you can also check out an exhibition and a programme of history talks and panel discussions too. Lincoln's Inn, WC2A 3TL. Sat 13 September. Free. City Hall Opened in 2012 as an exhibition centre and think tank called The Crystal, London's new City Hall in the Royal Docks has been the home of London Assembly and the offices of the Mayor of London since 2022. And while the building does offer limited public access year round, Open House is a chance to have a proper snoop around, and to learn more about City Hall's impressive sustainability credentials, – which earned it the first ever BREEM Outstanding certification, on one of the drop-in tours, as well as checking out the magnificent views over the historic local area from its events space, London's Living Room. Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE. Sat 13-Sun 14 September. Free. HMS Wellington A sleek, 81-metre military ship stationed on the north bank of the Thames between Blackfriars and Waterloo, HMS Wellington saved hundreds of lives during the six-year Battle of the Atlantic during World War II, steaming close to a quarter of a million miles and escorting 103 Atlantic Convoys. The ship has rarely been open to visitors before this summer, but following a major restoration project it will now be open to fee-paying members of the public every weekend. And to celebrate, HMS Wellington will be free to visit during Open House, offering hundreds of visitors the chance to learn more about the heroic deeds that occurred during the ship's career. Temple Stairs, WC2R 2PN. Sun 14 September. Free. London Film School Mike Leigh, Ann Hui, Michael Mann and Carla Simón are just a few of the renowned directors to have learned their craft at the London Film School in Holborn. Step into their shoes at one of the renowned institution's Open House filmmaking workshops, where you'll get to work with green screen and a camera operating team, then do a tour of the site's cinema and workshop spaces, housed in a former banana warehouse. 24 Shelton Street, WC2H 9UB. Sun 14 September. Free. Senate House A towering Art Deco landmark in the heart of Bloomsbury, Senate House was once the tallest secular building in the city. Supposedly the inspiration for the 'Ministry of Truth' in George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, it survived the Blitz in part because Hitler supposedly took a shine to it and had plants to make it the Nazi Party's headquarters should the Third Reich have successfully invaded Britain. These days it's best known as the site of the University of London's main library, which is usually reserved for the eyes of bookish students and academics, but members of the public can get lost among its marble-lined corridors and maze of bookshelves on an in-person or virtual tour during Open House. Malet Street, WC1E 7HU. Sat 20-Sun 21 September. Free.
