The new Progress27 roadmap charts the course for future growth after RHB delivered a commendable net profit of RM3.1 billion for the financial year ended Dec 31 2024 (FY2024) that marked an 11.2 per cent year-on-year increase.
The roadmap is anchored on service excellence, high profitability and a continued commitment to being a responsible and purposeful financial services group.
"Together We Progress 24 (TWP24) corporate strategy has laid a solid foundation for us, as we embark on our next chapter with Progress27.
"Our focus remains firmly on delivering long-term value to all stakeholders," said RHB chairman Tan Sri Ahmad Badri.
Meanwhile, the group said its strong FY2024 performance was driven by solid growth in total income and strong cost discipline.
Total income rose 10.7 per cent to RM8.6 billion, while return on equity improved to 10.04 per cent.
The group's capital position remains solid, with a common equity tier-1 ratio of 16.4 per cent and total capital ratio of 19 per cent.
In recognition of its strong performance, RHB declared a total dividend of 43 sen per share for FY2024, translating into a 60.1 per cent payout ratio and a 6.6 per cent dividend yield.
RHB also reaffirmed its commitment to responsible and sustainable finance, raising its sustainable financial services target to RM90 billion by 2027, up from the original RM50 billion by 2026.
Since launching its sustainability strategy in 2022, the group has mobilised over RM41 billion, achieving 82 per cent of its initial target.
"Under Progress27, our key priorities are to deliver exceptional customer experiences through innovation and seamless digital solutions, achieve high profitability through sustainable growth and operational excellence, and strengthen our role as a responsible and purposeful financial services group," Ahmad Badri said.
All resolutions tabled at the meeting were duly passed, including the re-election of Tan Sri Ong Leong Huat @ Wong JooHwa, Datuk Mohamad Nasir Ab Latif, Donald Joshua Jaganathan and Datuk Mohd Rashid Mohamad as members of the board of directors.

Malaysia's wholesale, retail trade sales up 4.4pct to RM154.3bil in May: DOSM

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's wholesale and retail trade registered a total sales of RM154.3 billion in May 2025, reflecting a 4.4 per cent growth year-on-year (y-o-y), according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). In a statement today, its chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the growth was primarily supported by the performance of the retail and wholesale trade sub-sectors. "The retail trade sub-sector registered RM67.1 billion in sales, an increase of RM3.1 billion or 4.9 per cent y-o-y. "The wholesale trade sub-sector recorded RM68.2 billion, up RM3.1 billion or 4.7 per cent y-o-y, reflecting steady business activity across supply chains," he said. May's online retail sales showed an increase, with the index rising by 2.2 per cent y-o-y, he said. "However, after seasonal adjustment, the index recorded a month-on-month decline of negative 3.4 per cent," he said. In terms of volume index, he said wholesale and retail trade posted a higher y-o-y increase at 4.1 per cent, driven by the wholesale trade sub-sector, which rose by 5.8 per cent, followed by retail trade with a 3.7 per cent increase. Complementing the trade growth, Mohd Uzir said Malaysia's digital payment transactions recorded a strong y-o-y gain in May 2025. "E-money transactions surged by 70.2 per cent y-o-y to RM21.5 billion, reflecting heightened adoption of digital payments. "Real-time retail payments platform transactions amounted to RM289.4 billion, underscoring the growing demand for instantaneous payment solutions. "Meanwhile, financial process exchange transactions expanded by 21.1 per cent to RM39.2 billion, driven by increased online banking activity," he said. The chief statistician said credit card usage remained stable at RM18.7 billion, while debit card transactions registered an eight per cent growth to RM14.1 billion. "Collectively, these trends highlight the sustained expansion of digital payment channels, in line with evolving consumer preferences and the broader digitalisation of Malaysia's payment infrastructure," he added.

CPO prices dip on geopolitical tensions, expected to stabilise in 2026

RHB expect 2026 to be a more balanced year fundamentally, with lower year-on-year (YoY) crude palm oil (CPO) prices, but geopolitical risks will translate to more volatility. Spot CPO prices have moderated from MYR4,600-4,800/tonne in 1Q25 to a low of MYR3,780/tonne in May, only to bounce back to the current levels of MYR3,900-MYR4,100/tonne. The downward movement was mainly driven by geopolitics in the light of the US trade tariffs, wars, and crude oil prices falling, all of which pushed CPO prices in the same direction. Correlation between CPO prices and crude oil prices surged to 0.47 in Apr 2025 from -0.6 in 1Q25, and subsequently rose further to current levels of 0.68, due to raised geopolitical risks. Besides following crude oil price trends, CPO prices also followed the lead of soybean oil (SBO) prices which rose due to the recent US biofuel policy change, leading to a rise in blending targets. We expect CPO prices to remain volatile given the ever-changing geopolitical situation. Fundamentally however, global supply and demand will likely be more balanced in 2026, as supply improves, while demand should pick up given the more attractive relative prices. Supply of 17 oils and fats complex is expected to improve YoY in 2026F, coming from a partial recovery of palm, sunflower and rapeseed supplies, as well as continued growth from soybeans. Still, the stock/usage ratio of the 17 oils and fats complex is still expected to remain below the historical average of 13.6%, at 12.9% for Oct 2025/Sep 2026, albeit up from 12.7% in 2025. This leaves very little cushion in case of any short-term bullish supply or demand surprises, hence raising the risk of price volatility going forward. What does this mean for relative prices of vegetable oils and demand? Ignoring the noises from geopolitics, we expect 2026F to see: i) Muted soybean prices, due to continued strong supply in 2026F. ii) SBO prices remain supported at higher levels, due to the higher demand from increased US biofuel blending. iii) CPO prices to continue trading at a discount to SBO in the medium term (currently at USD217/tonne discount). iv) demand from price sensitive countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh come back. We revise down our CPO price assumptions to MYR4,100/tonne (from MYR4,300) for 2025 and to MYR4,000/tonne (from MYR4,100) for 2026 and 2027; but revise up our PK prices to MYR3,300/tonne for 2025F (from MYR2,800) and to MYR3,200/tonne for 2026F and 2027F (from MYR2,600). Post annual ESG review, we have made several changes to our ESG scores and rolled forward our valuation targets to 2026 (from 2025). All in, we downgraded two stocks to NEUTRAL – Kuala Lumpur Kepong (KLK) and Bumitama Agri (BAL), post earnings revision. —July 9, 2025 Main image: The

Trade spillover expected to impact RHB's lending

Kenanga Research said that slight top-ups on provisions may be expected from further developments surrounding trade policies. PETALING JAYA: Spillover effects from trade tariffs may weigh on RHB Bank Bhd's corporate lending activities, cautions Kenanga Research. This is despite the fact that RHB, which is 39.2%-owned by the Employees Provident Fund, has a minimal direct and indirect exposure to trade loans at below 2%. Kenanga Research said that slight top-ups on provisions may be expected from further developments surrounding trade policies. Nevertheless, RHB's loan loss coverage ratio of over 115% looks 'sufficient' to weather through near-term uncertainties. The group's mortgage segment (38% of the total loans) remains resilient and research house is anticipating continued growth on the back of stronger property sales in both primary and secondary markets. 'The group is also positioning to leverage the overall property development value chain, being present in both land and project financing,' it pointed out. It is noteworthy that RHB had revised its loan growth target for the financial year of 2025 (FY25) from 6% to 7% to 5% to 6%, citing weaker economic forecasts amid ongoing global trade uncertainties. 'Though the group took a more conservative view on the operating landscape in the recent results reporting, some relief could be found in encouraging loans growth in certain pockets with net interest margin (NIM) pressures looking to alleviate.' In the first quarter of FY25 (1Q25), RHB's NIM of 1.84% fell slightly behind its 1.86% to 1.90% target, no thanks to the decline in Singapore Overnight Rate Average (Sora) rates affecting its loan yields there (predominantly made up of variable rate loans). Sora is the volume-weighted average rate of borrowing transactions in the unsecured overnight interbank Singapore dollar cash market in Singapore between 8am and 6.15pm. Kenanga Research noted that RHB expects NIMs to close well above 1.8% in the first half of FY25 as its fixed deposits in Singapore mature, allowing for repricing at lower rates and support margin recovery. Domestically, the group believes it may continue to be selective with its deposit acquisition strategies, thanks to the release of the statutory reserve requirement, which could improve their NIMs by one basis point. Kenanga Research has maintained its 'outperform' call on RHB and a target price of RM7.80 per share.
