Jordan: Agreement signed to train, employ 700 Jordanians in contracting sector
Bakkar said that the agreement comes in response to the labour market's "growing" need for specialised technical workers in the contracting sector, a "vital" industry that contributes to economic growth and creation of "sustainable" job opportunities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Sunday.
Bakkar stressed the importance of partnerships with the private sector to achieve "sustainable" development and reduce unemployment rates.
The minister noted that the empowerment of Jordanian youth to receive the required skills is a "fundamental" pillar of the Economic Modernisation Vision and a national priority.
VTC Director General Ahmad Gharaibeh said that the corporation continues to develop its partnerships with "leading" companies in various sectors, aimed to providing training programmes that keep pace with modern technological and professional developments.
Gharaibeh noted that this agreement represents a "practical model" of the VTC's endeavours to make a "true" cooperation in linking training to direct employment opportunities.
Masri said that the company views this partnership as a "true" investment in national human capital, aimed to train Jordanian youth, in accordance with "high" standards, which would contribute to raising projects' quality and enhancing "competitiveness" of the construction sector locally and regionally.
Under the agreement, specialised vocational training programmes are outlined and designed to cover a "wide" range of skills required in the contracting sector, including public safety and work site management.
The training will be implemented over two phases, as the theoretical stage lasts six to eight weeks, followed by training at the work sites of Mid Contracting Company, which would enhance trainees' readiness to enter the job market upon graduation.
The VTC will also provide equipped training centres in Balqa and Zarqa governorates and "qualified" trainers and logistical services.
On its part, the company will provide the "necessary" raw materials, practical training sites, and equipment and commit to employing trainees, who successfully complete the programme, based on its operational needs inside and outside Jordan.

AMMAN — Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi on Thursday attended part of the sectoral workshops focused on agriculture and food security and healthcare. Held at Royal Hashemite Court (RHC), the sessions are part of the second phase of the Economic Modernisation Vision (EMV), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Issawi stressed that the EMV, launched under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah, represents a 'strategic' national choice. Issawi noted that the RHC's step to host these workshops reflects "clear commitment" to His Majesty's directives to implement the vision within specific timeframes. He pointed out that the EMV aligns with the broader paths of political and administrative modernisation, forming a comprehensive Royal vision cantered on the Jordanian citizen and the improvement of public services across all sectors. Issawi added that holding dedicated sessions for the agriculture, food security, and healthcare sectors is of 'particular significance,' given their fundamental role in the national economy and their direct impact on citizens' daily lives. Experts, academics, and representatives of the private sector and civil society organisations who were involved in drafting the EMV, as well as media professionals, are participating in the sectoral workshops, scheduled to run until July 29. AMMAN — The Jordanian-Syrian Economic and Trade Committee convened in Amman on Tuesday, co-chaired by Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah and Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer Khalil. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in key areas, including transport, agriculture, customs, standards and metrology, food and drug regulation, industrial cities, and free zones, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. Both sides reiterated their commitment to advancing bilateral ties and emphasised the need to mobilise all available resources to overcome obstacles hindering trade, in line with the outcomes of the High Coordination Council meeting held in Damascus, co-chaired by the foreign ministers of both countries. Qudah highlighted the importance of holding regular meetings of the joint committee, noting that such engagements reflect the countries' commitment to expanding cooperation frameworks and addressing challenges arising from the current exceptional international circumstances. Khalil, for his part, described the committee's work as a reflection of the strong ties between the two countries and a practical step toward implementing previously agreed-upon decisions. Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Dana Zoubi, who led the Jordanian delegation in the preparatory meetings, and her Syrian counterpart, Deputy Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Basel Abdul Hanan, presented a briefing on the outcomes of the sessions concluded on Monday. The committee also discussed steps to expedite the registration of Jordanian pharmaceuticals in Syria. The Ministry of Industry and Trade is currently developing a digital product to document Jordan's experience in training and e-automation. Both sides stressed the importance of developing unified standards and agreed to establish a timeline for mutual recognition of technical specifications. It was also agreed that certificates of conformity issued by the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organisation would be accepted for Jordanian products entering the Syrian market.
