Oklahoma Football 2027 quarterback target predicted to land with USC

NEW: Rivals' @SWiltfong_ and @samspiegs have logged expert predictions for USC to land 2027 4-star QB Peyton Houston✌️Houston is the No. 8 QB in the 2027 class.Read: https://t.co/mFVQpYkotm pic.twitter.com/XjAsT6IQz6
The Oklahoma Sooners have their quarterback situation figured out for the 2026 recruiting class with the addition of Bowe Bentley and it was believed that the Sooners were in a good spot with their top 2027 quarterback target Peyton Houston.
Back in June, Brandon Drumm of OUInsider followed up on a prediction from the year prior, favoring the Sooners for Houston, but the tide has turned west on Monday. Steve Wiltfong and Sam Spiegelman of Rivals predicted that Houston would land with the USC Trojans.
Houston is the No. 8 quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class and is an incredible dual-threat prospect. If the Sooners indeed miss out on Houston, they'll have to pivot to find their quarterback in the 2027 cycle.
The position is in good shape for the foreseeable future with John Mateer set to start in 2025 and has eligibility to return in 2026. If Mateer goes off to the NFL, Michael Hawkins Jr. would get the first crack to take over as the starting quarterback, and OU would have Bentley along with Jett Niu and Whitt Newbauer expected to be on the roster.
The only other quarterbacks Oklahoma has offered in the 2027 class are Nebraska commit Trae Taylor and unranked prospect out of St. Louis Jonathan Moore.

Isaac Paredes will replace José Ramírez on the AL's All-Star roster

Houston Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes has been named to the American League All-Star team as a replacement for Cleveland Guardians third baseman José Ramírez. It's the second All-Star Game nod for Paredes, who ranks third among big-league third basemen with 19 home runs. Paredes, acquired from the Chicago Cubs over the winter in the Kyle Tucker trade, is slashing .255/.358/.471 for an Astros squad that once again sits atop the AL West. Paredes will join shortstop Jeremy Peña, starter Hunter Brown and closer Josh Hader as Astros representatives on the All-Star roster. Advertisement Ramírez is opting to skip the trip to Atlanta so he can focus on recovery after a physically painful first half. The seven-time All-Star, elected a starter for the fourth time, boasts a .299/.364/.503 slash line, and he's produced that while playing through several injuries. Ramírez suffered a sprained wrist on a slide into second base during the club's season-opening series in Kansas City in late March. He sprained his right ankle while dashing down the first-base line in Toronto in early May. In late June, he was plunked in the forearm by Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman, which forced him out of the lineup for a game and a half. There's been plenty of turnover at third base for the AL All-Star team. Both Ramírez and Boston's Alex Bregman will miss the exhibition. Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero was selected to replace Bregman, who has been sidelined with a quad strain. Jazz Chisholm, Jr., another All-Star third baseman, is shifting back to second base for the New York Yankees. (Photo of Paredes: Alex Slitz / Getty Images)

Deion Sanders brushes off health questions at Big 12 media days

As was expected, Deion Sanders was asked about his recent health issues during his Wednesday appearance at the 2025 Big 12 football media days. Sanders did not go into specifics about the ailments that have kept him away from his team for the past few months, but he seemed healthy as he walked on stage and spoke with media members. "I'm doing wonderful," Sanders said. "Don't I look good?... I'm not here to talk about my health, I'm here to talk about my team." Sanders has spent the majority of his offseason at his Dallas-area home, recovering, but made the short trek to Frisco this week for media days. "I am living good. I'm living lonely," Sanders added. "Not a care in the world." The Colorado head coach first divulged that he was dealing with a health problem on a podcast with Asante Samuel, where Sanders admitted that he lost 14 pounds. Sanders led Colorado to a 9-4 record in his second season at Colorado and signed a five-year contract extension in March. Colorado athletic director Rick George told ESPN at Big 12 media days that Sanders is "in it for the long haul." Follow Charlie Strella on X, Threads, and Instagram.
