Croc seen in Powai lake, right behind IIT-B hostel
Photographer Ramesh Kamble, with his Instagram handle savkash.sai, posted a video of the crocodile observed behind the IIT-B hostel, which has created considerable interest among activists.
NatConnect Foundation, which, along with local resident groups, is running a campaign to clean up and conserve the wetland, called for a census of the crocodiles in the lake. "There were supposed to be 18 crocodiles present in the lake as per a study done a few years ago, but a fresh crocodile count should be done now," NatConnect director B N Kumar said.
Environmentalist D Stalin noted, "Besides water pollution at Powai lake, it is observed that the basking and nesting sites of crocodiles here are severely disturbed due to human activities. A new 5-star hotel building has been constructed near the lake, while IIT has also installed metal grills to stop crocscoming into their campus. I have earlier mentioned this to BMC."

Indian Man Stunned By US Neighbours' Cold Response After House Fire Incident: "They Don't Care"
An Indian man living in the US shared his shocking experience after a house in his neighbourhood caught fire. In an Instagram reel, Nitish Advitiy expressed his surprise at the neighbours' reaction, noting that none of them came out to check on the homeowner or offer any kind of assistance. According to him, the fire department responded promptly, but the neighbours' apathy was striking. This incident highlights a broader trend in American society, where neighbourliness is often viewed more in terms of etiquette rather than meaningful relationships. "In the US, neighbours don't care about each other", the video was captioned on Imstagram. View this post on Instagram A post shared by नितिश अद्वितय (@nitishadvitiy) The video sparked a mixed response on social media, with some users drawing comparisons to the strong community bonds often seen in Indian neighbourhoods. Others argued that the situation in the US is better than in India in certain aspects, highlighting differing cultural norms and expectations around community involvement. One user wrote, "Cause they mind their own business." Another commented, "They know the authorities will take care of the same, no need for people to come and make reels of the same." A third said, "One big reason why many like to live in such places is because of privacy. Unlike in India, where everyone likes to poke their nose into others' lives." A fourth added, "Brother, you have gone to America, but your thinking has not changed. People have faith in government authority, that's why they are not stepping out." Research suggests nearly 75% of Americans dislike at least one neighbour, often due to issues like noise, rudeness or giving off "weird vibes". This can lead to increased stress and decreased sense of community. In fact, over 1 in 10 Americans have moved because they didn't like their neighbours, while another 27% have considered it..

Top duo attributes success to 2 years' rigorous preparations
1 2 3 4 Kochi: Ernakulam natives John Shinoj and Hari Kishan Baiju, who came first and second respectively in engineering category in the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) examinations, attributed their success to rigorous preparations they made over the last two years. Kalloorkad, Muvattupuzha, native Shinoj, who secured 588.58 marks out of 600, has already received admission to IIT Gandhinagar for electrical engineering. "Although I preferred other prominent IITs and campuses within Kerala, I opted for IIT Gandhinagar after some research," said Shinoj. He said the results brought immense joy to his parents and relatives. "I attended coaching at private centre in Pala. I prioritised KEAM entrance on alternate days to achieve the result," said Shinoj. Baiju, who came close second, said the results were expected as he had received top marks in the entrance examinations earlier. Hari, along with his family, relocated to India from the UAE to secure admission in an IIT in the country. "I attended entrance examination coaching during weekends while studying at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Irinjalakkuda," he said. In the IIT advanced examinations, Baiju bagged the 646th rank and received an admission to IIT Bombay for integrated electrical engineering (BTech + MTech) course.
