Look out for a brand that prioritises attention to detail and quality materials.

Play with materials like leather, snakeskin and fur for dimension.

A handbag is more than just a case for your belongings, the perfect tote can be just the right accessory you need to pull off your outfit.
It's easy to settle for the first bag you lay eyes on, but specifications like size, durability and material is a must to look out for.
Premium lifestyle handbag brands like Ted Baker prioritise attention to detail, signature prints, cuts and a timeless design that can be used for the ages.
One of the brands most recognisable bags in South Africa is their Icon tote bag, with local stars and influencers like actor Lunathi Mampofu rocking the signature tote.
The brand takes TRUELOVE through why exactly it's so popular in South Africa.
'Ted Baker's bold British style, quality pieces and playful details have built a strong sense of desirability and brand loyalty over time.
'In South Africa, its standout looks and premium positioning, standout occasion wear and expressive designs have appealed to our market for those who seeking a unique touch to their look.'
In the market for a new tote that has just the right blend of functionality, durability and versatility, read on for more tips.
1. Play with colour
The right colour bag can make or break your 'fit, but a pop of colour could be just what is needed to add dimension to a look.
At an exclusive brunch hosted by the premium lifestyle brand in Johannesburg, model and Miss South Africa 2015 Liesl Laurie-Mthombeni tells TRUELOVE about how she's all about vibrant colours as she gets older.
'A couple of years ago I would say something that's functional, sensible and that works from day today. In my 30s, I went fun. I'm looking for something that is ridiculous. If it can't even fit my lip gloss, that's fine, and I'm looking for a pop of colour.
'Having just been to Europe a couple of weeks ago, I went there as well, I only bought red, yellow and green bags because I've got enough black and white. And also the world needs a bit more colour.'
Nude tones are still popular amongst many, with broadcaster Abigail Visagie explaining, 'So, for me, I'm loving the neutrals. So, either black, loving chocolate brown this season, it's close to burgundy and we know burgundy is the colour of the season, so definitely something chocolate brown.'
Lifestyle content creator and one third of the Mqoco sisters Thobeka Bonolo Mqoco is also one for neutral colours.
'I look for something neutral that will match with more outfits, so probably going for browns, nudes. I do love whites and cream white as well and black obviously is a classic,' she says.
2. The right size for your lifestyle
Size goes hand in hand with functionality, where many like Thobeka and Abigail look for a good amount of space for their handbags.
'I prefer something spacious. I want to fit my phone, my little light because we're creating content. So, I want to be able to fit as much in it as possible. So, practicality but also highly fashionable and I think Ted Baker is exactly that,' Abigail says.
Liesl is in the era of switching it up, opting for tiny micro bags that serve style more than functionality.
Liesl tells us, 'I live for a micro bag. Not a mini, a micro. My husband calls it my 'useless bag' because it can fit a lip gloss and a mirror, and that's it. But I'm like, 'I'm also with you. I only need a lip gloss and a mirror, just saying'.'
3. Switch up the material
From leathers - real and faux - to snakeskin and suede, a good and durable material to last through the ages is one of the first things to look out for in a premium bag.
Thobeka shares, 'I must say leather is something that is classy that I'd probably reach for first out of all other materials. However, lately I'm finding texture will also add nice variety to an outfit. So, something unusual ... some snakeskin, some alligator or fur. Something to that nature because a bag is also an accessory that can add oomph to your outfit.'

I Spend Every Summer in Europe—These Are the 10 Effortless Dress Styles I Pack

No matter how large the crowds or long the travel time, I visit Europe each summer. In a few weeks, I'll make my annual trek across the pond, starting in London and immersing myself amongst the fashion epicenter's well-dressed locals and their pastel colored midi dresses and posh, wrinkle-resistant linens that are easy to accessorize. Then, it's off to Greece, where the look is always playful and beach-ready, especially in Halkidiki, the less-crowded but equally beautiful Northern cousin to the popular Greek Islands, where I'll be staying. Always in my carry-on? A versatile travel dress to match each city's unique style and climate. If you're gearing up for your own European adventure in the summer months, regardless of local style, make sure to invest in fabrics with great airflow and moveability for days of walking and exploring. Below, you'll find 12 dress styles to get you started, all inspired by my people watching and desire to be cool, literally and figuratively. Linen provides summer-friendly moisture-wicking material and natural fibers that encourage the air flow needed for humid days in Europe. Best of all, the fabric is trending across so many great brands in various styles, from mini dresses to fashionable button-downs. One of my favorite picks at the moment is The Reformation Linen Dress, which features a slim-fitting bodice and A-line skirt for effortless day-to-night versatility when I don't have time to go back to my hotel before dinner. For a little more length but similar flare, the Quince European Linen Fit Flare Dress' soft material is made from premium flax fiber sustainably grown in Western Europe, and has adjustable straps that are always a nice bonus. Effortlessly versatile, midi dresses have a mid-calf cut that can easily be dressed up or down, and range in a wide variety of styles that include one-shoulder, strapless, and halter-neck options. Consider Amazon's Litvany Midi Dress, which features a ribbed knit bodice and a puffed peplum skirt that makes it a fashionable option for a night out. I've also added this gorgeous Helsa Brie Midi Dress to my packing wishlist, as I can't get enough of the chic look and delicate details, like a bow accent and a lace-up detail at the neckline. Playful, full of motion, and the perfect way to show off your legs, mini dresses are always a reliable summer dress option for nights out in Europe. This flirty style has evolved into more inclusive, figure-flattering cuts, like this 40 percent-off Quilted Gathered Mini Dress from Scotch & Soda, which has a loose fit and mid-thigh length that suits a wide variety of shapes. I've also got my eye on this eyelet dress from Splendid, as I'm a huge fan of the relaxed fit. The intricate detailing on the dress and whimsical, perforated eyelet pattern make it a breezy, cool option for afternoon tea. If you've searched online for a summer dress recently, chances are you've likely seen the drop-waist dress trend that's taking the internet by storm. The defining feature of this silhouette is a lowered waistline and flared skirt, and the varying lengths and use of breathable fabrics make it an ideal choice for warmer temperatures. Because I'm on the curvier side, I was hesitant to lean into this style, but this Zelda dress from Marie Oliver, on sale for a whopping $306 off, quickly changed my mind. The vibrant, yellow color and breezy, loose-fitting cotton poplin material make it a gorgeous dress for any summer activity. Other styles that have caught my attention include this twirly Parthea Midi Dress, $57 on Amazon, and this ruched American Eagle Bella midi dress, on sale for $49. One of the things I love most about halter dresses is their history. This bold style first gained popularity in the 1960s during the Civil Rights Movement as a rebellion against traditional fashion norms. Now, it's trending once again thanks to a bigger Y2K revival that has made my nostalgic heart happy, as do polka dots. Both are married together beautifully in the More to Come Brienne Mini Dress from Revolve. This chic mini dress has a halter neck tie and low draped back that I can't wait to wear to an alfresco lunch in the Mediterranean. Shopping on a budget? I also have my eye on this $39 tiered maxi dress at Amazon, which gives instant European vibes with its ruched bust and ruffled skirt. It should come as no surprise that beach-inspired tropical and floral prints are also a popular dress choice in Europe during the summer. Channel your inner Grecian goddess with the white floral printed Krystyn Mini Dress from More to Come; the chiffon fabric and babydoll fit exude all the whimsical, feminine vibes I try to capture throughout my summer wardrobe. For a more comfortable option with plenty of stretch, consider this Maggy London Stretch Cotton Max Dress—it's made with a cotton-spandex blend fabric and is on sale for just $55. There's a reason behind the saying 'smooth as silk.' The cooling, soft touch of this light fabric is a welcome feel against my hot skin, especially in the summer. It's also typically thermoregulating, so you can wear it confidently during the dog days of summer, knowing that you won't overheat easily. For an option that feels just as comfortable as it looks, this Quince Washable Silk Slip Dress, $90, has a midi length and comes in a number of colors to choose from, including a pretty floral pastel pattern and gleaming aqua pearl. For a fun night out, this Reformation Ursula Silk Dress always catches people's attention when I wear it. Designed with a fitted bodice that flows into a mini A-line skirt, I adore this playful look with a cute pair of kitten heels and a clutch bag. I know what you're thinking: Denim? In the summer?! Though the fabric isn't exactly known for its breathability, denim dresses can be lightweight enough to be worn in hotter temperatures. One of my go-tos is this denim mini dress from Gap; it offers plenty of soft stretch with a fit that hits right above the knees. And this Ellison Midi Dress from Reformation has a flowy A-line skirt that promotes air flow on warm, sunny days. I'm also a huge fan of denim dresses because you can dress them up or down with any color or pattern, whether that be your favorite scarf, shoes, or jewelry. This $60 Amazon denim shirt dress, for example, can be spiced up with a pair of knee-high boots and a handbag, or worn with a pair of comfy Hokas for a casual look. Having made their debut across fashion runways this past spring, bubble hem dresses are both playful and versatile, making them a reliable option for day or night. Look for lightweight materials like cotton and tulle that promote airflow, and have some fun by choosing vibrant colors and patterns. A great day option is this J. Crew Bubble-hem dress, made with a soft cotton blend and featuring a modest boat neckline. For a more dressed-up look that combines two other trending dress styles—halter-necks and mini lengths—I've got my eye on More to Come's Giovanna dress from Revolve, $76. It's no secret that crochet dresses are having a moment right now. No longer limited to summer beachwear, this style has evolved over the years and is now available in both casual and evening wear. I love this Express Crochet Halter Cutout Maxi Dress because of its classic geometric print and halter neckline. The brand also has a Crochet Striped Scoop Neck Mini Sweater Dress that I'll be wearing multiple times over due to its colorful print and stretchy material that doesn't need to be ironed. I bought a bunch of cheap dresses from Amazon for summer — one was a cut above the rest

My favourite one has more than 16,000 reviews. Last year, I purged my closet and donated several dresses that no longer brought me joy. The best part about getting rid of stuff is that you feel less guilty about treating yourself to something new — it's simple math, really. When I set out to revamp my wardrobe, I wasn't looking to spend a fortune, so I took a look at some of Amazon's bestselling dresses for inspiration. I couldn't decide on just one, so I ended up adding six different styles to my cart. Everything I chose is under $50, so I figured, why not? I was most excited about this corset dress, but did I love it when I tried it on? And what about this floral maxi dress? It has more than 16,000 reviews, but did it live up to the hype? Scroll below to see which Amazon dresses have earned a permanent place in my closet, whether for my next summer party or vacation. What I bought: WEACZZY Summer Dress What I like about it: The moment I tried this on, I knew it was a keeper. It falls right at the knee, and the soft spandex/rayon blend hugs my figure in all the right places. It's easy to dress up with a pair of heels and a stylish blazer or throw on over your bathing suit for a day at the beach. I ordered it in a small which was perfect as it fits true to size. The empire waist and pleats make it a great choice for when I'm feeling a bit bloated but still want to wear something cute. Room for improvement: It does wrinkle and it's also a little sheerer than I thought, so you definitely want to be mindful of your undergarment selections when wearing. What other shoppers are saying: This dress has an average rating of 4.1 stars from more than 980 reviews. Shoppers agree it's "true to size," "flattering," and say it "drapes beautifully." What I bought: GRECERELLE V-Neck Maxi Dress What I like about it: This maxi is a fun choice for a night out or a summer wedding. I like the sash, which gives it a bit more of a refined look. My favourite detail of the dress is the cute ruffled capped sleeves. The 95 per cent rayon fabric feels great on and doesn't cling to the body, which is perfect on those hot summer nights. I ordered this wrap dress in a small and it was a little big on me. Room for improvement: This dress wrinkles so easily! For that reason alone I would hand wash it, anything to cut down on the wrinkles. Also, as it's shorter in the front, it does ride up a bit when you sit down, which I don't love. What other shoppers are saying: Shoppers call this maxi "so comfortable" and say it's "flattering and forgiving." Another reviewer is impressed with how much "boob room" the dress provides, saying that if you are "chesty," this is the dress for you. What I bought: Courecrop Midi Corset Dress What I like about it: This cheap corset dress was the one I was most excited to order. The length is great, falling a little below the knee. The corset is surprisingly comfortable even when tied tight. This polyester dress is not stretchy and it runs true to size. Room for improvement: I so wanted this dress to be a winner for me, but alas, it was far from it. I'm 5'5" with a short torso, and this dress didn't fall quite right on my frame. The slit up the front was also a little too high for my personal taste. I know I am slim, but the corset still didn't seem to do anything to "snatch" my waist. What other shoppers are saying: One reviewer called this dress "very flattering," going on to say that the fabric is "light and flowy" and "perfect for summer." Another said that it "fits true to size" and is "amazing quality." What I bought: MOLERANI Sleeveless Button-Down Dress What I like about it: I could live in this soft and stretchy dress all year long. It falls rights below the knee, is easy to put on, and the front pockets are the best. The decorative brown buttons down the front? Perfection. I accidentally ordered a medium, and I'm glad I did. It fits great and the looser size is great for throwing on over my bathing suit or to run errands in the morning. Room for improvement: As I mentioned, I accidentally ordered the medium, so it's a little baggy in the underarms, but I think if I had gotten the small, that wouldn't have been a problem. What other shoppers are saying: "The dress fits great and is very comfortable," says one review. They also said the "soft" dress "feels good on." Another customer said that this "great" dress is "very forgiving," while another person called the dress "flattering" and "comfy." What I bought: MOLERANI Maxi Dress with Pockets What I like about it: This maxi dress is my top choice dress for casual comfort. I don't care what mood I am in; the second I put on this virtually wrinkle-free dress, I am revived. The hidden side pockets are great and I find myself reaching for this dress over others I own. It's flattering and runs true to size. Room for improvement: I'm 5'5" and I ordered a small and it fell right at my ankles. I can imagine if I were any shorter the dress would be too long. What other shoppers are saying: Dubbed the " most comfortable dress" by one shopper, the maxi has earned more than 16,000 reviews on Amazon. It's "beautifully made" and "true to size." What I bought: Famulily V-Neck Puff Sleeve Dress What I like about it: If you are looking for a low-maintenance dress that gives you a polished and professional look, this is it. The fabric doesn't wrinkle easily, and it's super easy to clean. It's also great for travel. Just take it out of your suitcase and let it hang in the closet for a bit and voila, your dress is ready for a night on the town. Room for improvement: The only reason I am not giving this dress five stars is that I wish it was a little longer. What can I say? Below the knee is my preferred length for warm-weather dresses. It also runs a little big. But this one still scores an A, just not an A+. What other shoppers are saying: Of its 1,800+ reviews, 59 per cent of shoppers gave this knee-length dress a perfect five-star rating. One person said this "great dress" looks "just like the picture" and "fits true to size." The verdict Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by all 6 of the Amazon spring and summer dresses that I tried — especially given their affordable price point. If you're thinking about buying — here's my ultimate ranking and reasoning: 1. MOLERANI Maxi Dress with Pockets: I'm obsessed with this wear-anywhere dress, which shoppers call the "most comfortable dress." It's versatile, flattering and fits true to size — but if you're on the shorter side, it may be a bit too long. 2. MOLERANI Sleeveless Button-Down Dress: Another slam dunk from MOLERANI! This little number is flattering and hits right below the knees, making it great for warm days. Shoppers say it's "very forgiving" and I'll be wearing it everywhere from backyard BBQs to the beach. 3. Famulily V-Neck Puff Sleeve Dress: This low-maintenance dress is polished and professional, and is also super easy to clean. The only downside? It's a bit short for me — but that definitely may just be personal preference. 4. WEACZZY Summer Dress: This sleek empire waist and pleats make it a great choice for a day when you're feeling casual but want to still want to look put-together. I do want to flag that it is a bit sheer, so you'll want to be mindful with your choice in undergarments. 5. GRECERELLE V-Neck Maxi Dress: This dress would be cute for a wedding or another event, but it wrinkles really easily. That combined with the fact that the front rides up when you sit down means I wouldn't recommend it for more than a couple wears. 6. Courecrop Midi Corset Dress: This one didn't do it for me at all — but again, personal preference. I found that the "corset" waist didn't do much to highlight my figure, and the front slit was a bit too high for my taste. I'd personally recommend skipping this one — but to each their own.

Margot Robbie Wears the Miniest Mini Dress—Because When in Italy

From London to Ibiza, Margot Robbie has been enjoying her jaunts across the pond and embracing vacation style. After dabbling in the beach goth aesthetic on a recent trip to the Balearics, she's opted for something more Barbie-like on a romantic stay in Naples. The actor and producer was photographed on the balcony of the Grand Hotel Parker's, the elegant and oldest hotel in the Italian city, enjoying the sun and swigging acqua frizzante. She wore a strapless mini dress with a colorful, embroidered elephant print and flat cream sandals. Robbie wore her long blonde hair with a slight wave, and in a middle part. She was joined by her husband Tom Ackerley. The mini dress was a go-to silhouette for Robbie during the Barbie press tour, with looks that included a fiery a red custom Dilara Fındıkoğlu dress when promoting the film in London, and a custom-made hot pink and white halter-neck minidress by Valentino with a midriff cut-out that directly referenced supermodel Karen Mulder, who was dubbed the 'real-life Barbie' in her heyday. The elevated mini dress is a chill, one-and-done staple for the summer, with more than one way to go about it to fit it into your own personal style lexicon: think elegant shift dresses, easy linens, lacy slips, and more sporty numbers. Across the summer so far, Robbie's vacation wardrobe has comprised of easy, breezy, chic ensembles: A semi-sheer maxi skirt, billowing palazzo pants, extra-large raffia beach bags, and black Alaïa mesh flats. Photo: Backgrid Photo: Rumors have been swirling that Robbie is tipped as the frontrunner for the leading role in the forthcoming reboot of the iconic '90s movie Basic Instinct, which originally starred Sharon Stone—a film with its own very famous mini dress moment… The original costumes were by veteran Hollywood costume designer Ellen Mirojnick (of Fatal Attraction, Showgirls, and Bridgerton), which revelled in luxurious fabrics, sensual tailoring, and icy, Hitchcockian color palettes. Imagine the Margot Robbie press tour wardrobe for that.
