England are just playing the situation, there's nothing reckless about what they've done, it's all been calculated. Obviously they have played some shots but they've been the right ones and that's what's important.

Shubman Gill has chucked the ball to Washington Sundar.
Ben Stokes and Jamie Smith pick up a single each.
We'll probably have one over before lunch. Although it is Ravindra Jadeja, so this could be a swift one.

I really like that analogy, Vineet.
Ben Stokes has started sweeping Ravindra Jadeja. 150 up for England.

Gill can afford to be a bit more extravagant with his fields. He is a millionaire right now with the runs he has got in his bank but behaving stingy for some reason.

Shubman Gill has two slips for Ben Stokes but there's no other fielders within what you'd call the 30-yard circle in white-ball cricket. Is he trying to tempt the England captain?

Every team needs a Mohammed Siraj. Not just for the effort and energy but for the entertainment.

Mohammed Siraj is chunnering away to himself in between deliveries. He glares at Ben Stokes a few times and tosses the ball towards the stumps for good measure. Stokes looks at him dismissively.
I think I'd like to see Akash Deep brought back for an over before lunch.

Jon Evans: I don't understand the big criticisms of Bazball really. We are playing a top team, we will win some and lose some. Prior to Bazball we struggled to break 400 in an innings. Certainly wouldn't have believed we could chase 378 in the second innings to win.

Ravindra Jadeja goes so quickly through his over, he gives you no time to think about what you're doing. He's so accurate every time as well, he's finding the foot holes every single time.

I think that we can safely say that England are playing the correct way. We were worried that they'd come out and the wickets would rattle before lunch but they've come out and played the game. They've never been in this position before.

England's attacking shot percentage for this innings is 22% — their lowest in 70 innings since the start of the Bazball era, in innings where they batted a minimum of 30 overs.

Farewell 123-5. Jamie Smith runs a single to restart the scoreboard and Ben Stokes follows it with a four.
The next ball is called wide - Mohammed Siraj is not amused - and Stokes rubs salt in the wound by smacking him for another four.

Stokes having a nightmare against Jadeja and the rough outside his off stump. He must be cursing the person who won the toss and chose to bowl first.

The ball is doing some funny things when it comes out of the rough and Ravindra Jadeja is hitting it every time. Ben Stokes is going to have to be selective with what he plays.

Rishabh Pant is up to the stumps, India have crowded three fielders around the bat, and the ball drops just short of Shubman Gill in the slips. A scare for Ben Stokes.

England didn't lose a wicket between the 30th and 80th over in their first innings. Only one wicket fell in that period in India's second innings and that was Rishabh Pant having a slog.

I think India need to bring someone closer in. They have runs to play with and still aren't playing attacking enough for my liking.

F1 RACE ZONE: Martin Brundle hugged by Ted Lasso star, 239th time lucky for Nico Hulkenberg and Lewis Hamilton's hound steals the show at Silverstone
Lando Norris made history on Sunday by becoming the first British winner of his home Grand Prix since Lewis Hamilton in 2008 — but the celebrations turned bruising after a freak accident left him with a cut nose. Norris kept his cool through a rain-soaked, safety car-chaos of a race, seizing his chance when McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri was handed a costly penalty for suddenly slowing under caution. The Bristolian's flawless drive delighted the 168,000-strong Silverstone crowd, who braved the showers draped in McLaren's papaya orange to roar their man home. Elsewhere, Nico Hulkenberg finally claimed the first podium of his 15-year career after an astonishing charge from 19th to third — and even left with a trophy built entirely from Lego bricks. Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, impressed on his first British Grand Prix for Ferrari but narrowly missed out on a top-three finish, while the Red Arrows suffered an awkward moment by missing their flyover cue. Mail Sport's HENRY CLARK was at Silverstone on Sunday and has jotted down six quickfire takeaways from an unforgettable British Grand Prix. 239th time lucky for Hulkenberg After 15 long years spent scrapping for the odd point here or there, Nico Hulkenberg finally enjoyed his day in the limelight. In his 239th race, the 37-year-old German used every drop of his experience to navigate his way from 19th to third and claim his first podium. 'It's something to build on' A special piece of silverware — or should we say brickwork — will take pride of place on Hulkenberg's mantelpiece. The trophies handed to the top three were made of Lego and created to celebrate the sport's 75th anniversary. 'My daughter can play with it too,' joked the German. Actress lassoes lucky Brundle Sky Sports' resident celebrity chaser Martin Brundle ventured out on his grid-walk hunt yesterday in search of A-listers. Plenty have given Brundle the cold shoulder in the past, but Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham asked him for a hug! Brundle happily obliged. Pricey drinks in the paddock For those F1 lovers who enjoy the finer things in life, look no further than luxury paddock hospitality venue House 44. Designed by members' club Soho House in partnership with Lewis Hamilton, fans can slurp signature cocktails in opulent surroundings — if you have a spare £8,800 knocking about, that is. Hamilton's hound steals the show Hamilton arrives in style, come rain or shine. But for once it wasn't his flamboyant outfit that stole the show. Instead, it was his company: Roscoe, his beloved bulldog. However, Roscoe had some four-legged competition in the Ferrari garage in the shape of Charles Leclerc's dachshund, Leo. Are Red Arrows over the hill? There was a blunder ahead of the pre-race national anthem. Pop star Becky Hill still dashing to the stage as announcers passed over to her. Hill belted out the anthem... only to be stood up by the Red Arrows, who were meant to fly overhead during the end of God Save the King but missed their cue.

Emma Raducanu watches Carlos Alcaraz beat Andrey Rublev on Centre Court as romance rumours continue
Emma Raducanu was in attendance to watch Carlos Alcaraz progress to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon on Sunday as rumours of a romance between the pair continue to circulate. Alcaraz dropped the first set to Andrey Rublev but roared back to win the next three and secure his place in the last eight. A beaming Raducanu was seen in the stands as she showed up to support the Spaniard once again. And the Brit was all smiles despite her own tournament having come to an end at the hands of world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka on Friday evening. Raducanu and Alcaraz are due to partner in doubles at the US Open in August, but speculation about a possible bond beyond the tennis court has grown. Raducanu was seen supporting Alcaraz at the Queen's Club Championships last month, sparking talk around Queen's that there might be 'something going on between them. The pair were spotted laughing and joking together and arriving at the venue just minutes apart. Another link-up followed with Alcaraz being confirmed as the latest global ambassador of Evian ahead of Wimbledon - the tournament's official water supplier since 2008. Raducanu also works with Evian, her collaborative work starting after she became the hottest property in British sport by winning the US Open in 2021, which led to her signing lucrative deals with the likes of Nike and Christian Dior. The two US Open champions - Raducanu won in 2021, Alcaraz a year later - are good friends, growing up together on the tour. Both have maintained that they are just friends. 'He's so nice, very happy, amazing values and just a really positive light to be around,' said Raducanu about Alcaraz when asked how their bond began. 'I've known him for years. Wimbledon 2021 was the first time I started getting to know him. He was always playing the day before me, I would see him win and then I would have motivation to win and get myself into that position too. 'It was really cool to go through that tournament together and then I kept going through the US Open, we were staying in touch for the whole time and, yeah, it's nice. 'We have a good relationship still. He's obviously overtaken me a lot, but it's nice that we have that from a while ago.' Alcaraz, also 22, told Mail Sport at Queen's that Raducanu made him wait before agreeing to team up. 'Gotta keep them on their toes!' Raducanu joked. 'I had to ask my team if they thought I should play, but when he asked me, I was going to say yes, I just had to go through the formality of asking my coach.'

Newly-promoted Sunderland target England goalkeeper, 32, in ambitious loan transfer
SUNDERLAND are ready to move for Wolves keeper Sam Johnstone. The Black Cats want him so he can fight with their current No 1 Anthony Patterson for game time. 5 5 As we revealed, the newly-promoted Premier League club just hired keeper coach Neil Cutler. And he is a big fan of experienced, four-cap England man Johnstone, 32. Cutler worked with Johnstone at Aston Villa and Wolves and wants to reunite at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland have looked at expensive keepers in Europe but may look at a relative domestic bargain in Johnstone. The move could happen as a loan because the star still has a contract at Wanderers for three years. Manchester United academy graduate Johnstone joined them in a £10million deal from Crystal Palace last summer. Johnstone played 10 times for the Molineux Stadium outfit last season, including seven times in the league. He failed to keep a single clean sheet in those matches, conceding 17 goals. The FA Cup was more fruitful for him. He kept one clean sheet in three games as Wolves beat Bristol City and Blackburn before crashing out in round five on penalties to Bournemouth. Johnstone was last involved for the Three Lions in March 2024. Although his last game was a 1-0 win over Australia in October 2023. 5
