
Two octogenarians from Kerala amble into Europe. And then, into limelight
The sisters Valsala and Ramani, aged 86 and 84, respectively, began travelling in their 70s after moving in together following the death of Ramani's husband. Valsala had lost her husband at a young age and worked at the Account General's office in Thrissur.
The duo began their journey with spiritual trips across India with the Adhyatmika Prabodhan Sangam group, and soon expanded to several Asian countries, each journey fuelling a desire to see the world.
Their dream of Europe was ignited during a visit to Kashmir two years ago. 'After Kashmir, the desire to see Switzerland became very strong,' shares Gayathri, Ramani's granddaughter, who, along with her mother Bindu and brother Gautham, forms the backbone of the two sisters' travel team.

There are over 25 flights connecting Hyderabad to the US, operated by carriers such as Lufthansa, Cathay Pacific, British Airways, Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, flydubai, Kuwait Airways, and Air India. But all of them are hopping flights. The GMR Group attributes the lack of direct connectivity to the short-term unavailability of wide-body aircraft and restricted airspace due to geopolitical issues. We are in active talks with Indian and US carriers to establish direct flights,' said GHIAL CEO Pradeep Panicker. Insiders say airlines prefer to concentrate US routes through Mumbai and Delhi to retain load viability, despite rising demand in Hyderabad. GHIAL also pointed out that Hyderabad-US is the largest unserved origin-and-destination market. On average, 1,462 passengers travel to the US daily, equivalent to five widebody aircraft. 'Establishing direct connectivity would boost travel frequency. Current demand supports a strong three-days-a-week service. Peak business travel occurs from Feb to Aug, followed by high student movement,' Panicker added.

'We are working closely with partners to resolve this issue as soon as possible,' a CBSA spokesperson said in an email to CNN. The disruption was first reported by Cross Border Pickups, a shipping company that issued a notice to its customers on Friday afternoon, warning of potential delays in packages entering Canada from the United States. 'There's currently a CBSA system outage affecting shipments crossing into Canada,' the company stated. BENGALURU: Elephants never forget - and these trunks in the sky will never forget their first flight. Four Asiatic elephants from Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) in south Bengaluru were airlifted to Osaka in Japan late Thursday aboard a chartered Boeing 777-200F cargo flight. The shipment - three females and one male - broke new ground in wildlife exchange. Their 12-hour airborne journey will be followed by a 20-hour road transfer Saturday to their new home: Himeji Central Safari Park in Hyogo prefecture. A team of veterinarians, biologists, and mahouts from India and Japan are accompanying them. The move is the culmination of a six-month operation involving over 25 BBP staff. Teams worked on designing custom crates for the first international air transfer of elephants from BBP. They prepared the elephants for long-duration flight - training them daily to enter and stay inside crates for up to four hours. "This was indeed a first experience for all of us. While the entire process itself was thrilling, it was filled with a lot of lessons," said BBP executive director AV Surya Sen. The aircraft was selected on the basis of the animals' combined weight - Asian male elephants weigh up to 6,800kg and females 4,000kg. All costs are being borne by the Japanese zoo authorities. Loaded onto a special truck using a hydraulic crane, the elephants left BBP Thursday and were secured in individual crates before boarding the flight. "They were fed well before crate entry," said one vet.
