Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday: Celebs hopping on TikTok trend and jets
"Nothing beats a Jet2 Holiday," the ad promises as British singer Jess Glynne's 2015 song "Hold My Hand" blasts in the background. Even celebrities have been eager to hop on the trend, with stars like Mariah Carey and Jeff Goldblum parodying the ad.
Social media users are proving why nothing beats a Jet2 holiday. What's that?
Goldblum, known for his own TV ad campaigns, joined in the fun, posting a TikTok with a remixed voice-over, swapping "Jet2" for "Jeff2." Fans were delighted, with one commenting: "If Jeff Goldblum isn't greeting me at the gate in sunglasses and a silk shirt, is it even a Jeff2 holiday?"
Carey, on the other hand, used the trend to announce her performance at Brighton Pride in the United Kingdom, posting a TikTok of her boarding a plane to the viral sound accompanied by the caption "Nothing beats going to Brighton Pride!!"
Jet2, no doubt happily basking in the unexpected free press, commented below Carey's post: "We belong together."
That the "Obsessed" singer was boarding a private jet in her video butts up against the ethos of the trend, which has connected social media users worldwide about everything from budget airfare to hilarious travel plans gone wrong.
The ad's song has even been remixed by some on the internet, with a soca version dominating recent videos and a New Orleans bounce remix as the background to multiple dance videos.
Singer slams Trump administration for using her song to promote deportations
Glynn also spoke out earlier this week about another group clearly not in on the joke: the Trump administration.
When the White House's official Instagram shared a post on July 30 celebrating the Trump admin's mass deportation efforts to the tune of "Hold My Hand," Glynn was quick to shoot them down. The video, which showed people being escorted out of a van and marched onto a plane with their hands and ankles handcuffed, was accompanied by the caption: "When ICE books you a one-way Jet2 holiday to deportation. ?? Nothing beats it!" Though federal agents' faces are blurred, the detainees' faces are not.
In response, Glynn wrote in an Instagram story: "This post honestly makes me sick. My music is about love, unity, and spreading positivity - never about division or hate."

Patrick Kielty 'in dark place' if fears over Cat Deeley moving back to US come true
Patrick Kielty and Cat Deeley announced this week they are to split after 13 years of marriage Insiders have expressed concern that Patrick Kielty could be "in a very dark place" if his ex-wife Cat Deeley decides to return to the US with their children. The couple, who were married for 13 years, announced their separation this week, causing shockwaves and concern among their close circles. Residents in Dundrum, County Down - Patrick's hometown - have voiced their worry for the 54 year old star, who tied the knot with Cat in Rome back in September 2012. Those close to Patrick, father of two children with Cat, fear he would be heartbroken if his former spouse returns to the US, where they previously resided. An insider revealed: "Everyone is worried about Paddy. The fear is that Cat will go back to America with the little ones. That will leave him in a very dark place," reports the Mirror. Cat took over presenting duties on ITV's This Morning last year alongside Ben Shephard, following the departures of Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. However, since confirming her split from Patrick, it has come to light that 48 year old Cat found the transition back to the UK challenging. There are growing concerns that Cat, who began her career hosting SMTV Live on Saturday mornings, might quit her role at ITV and head back to the US. Television insiders told Mail Online: "Cat's time on This Morning has not been a failure, but it has hardly been a roaring success. "It is a job which puts her under so much scrutiny, day-in and day-out, and unlike most British presenters she has plenty more lucrative options to choose from in the States... there is concern that all of this family drama could lead her to walk away." Cat and Patrick, a comedian and TV host, resided in Los Angeles for over 14 years, where Cat hosted the reality TV show, So You Think You Can Dance. They returned to the UK and Cat promptly began on This Morning, believed to be one of several ITV daytime shows facing budget cuts. The broadcaster recently unveiled plans for a revamp, including reducing Lorraine by 30 minutes and discontinuing it entirely during school holidays from January. It's thought that This Morning will relocate from its White City base in west London to a smaller, less expensive studio in central London. Cat has been candid about her struggles adjusting to the 5am starts for the four days a week she presents This Morning, revealing that it resulted in her and Patrick sleeping in separate beds most nights. Last September, Patrick, who presents The Late Late Show which is recorded in Dublin, dismissed suggestions that the couple were finding it hard to make time for each other. Patrick and Cat announced their split in a joint statement to the PA News agency which read: "We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved. We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected."

Justin Trudeau feels 'ambushed' after Katy Perry dating rumours as they're spotted together
An insider source has claimed former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau feels 'ambushed' by the public attention he is receiving after going out for dinner with Katy Perry Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau have sparked surprise dating rumours this week after being spotted enjoying an intimate dinner in Montreal, Canada. The pair, who are both recently single and navigating tumultuous chapters in their respective careers, were seen at the trendy Le Violon restaurant before heading out for cocktails at a nearby terrace bar. At the time sources claimed the pop star and former Canadian prime minister spent several hours together on Monday evening tucking into the chef's tasting menu and appeared "comfortable" and "at ease" with each other. One insider claimed Trudeau had his arm "practically welded" to Perry's waist, although no photographs have emerged to confirm this. Despite the romantic buzz, insiders say not everything is quite as it appears. According to celebrity publicist Rob Shuter, while Perry "really likes" Trudeau and viewed the dinner as a date, the former PM had a different perspective. It comes after reports Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set for new 'goldmine' offer - but could face issue. Katie Price worries fans with appearance in family photo after explaining weight loss Cruz Beckham 'steals' his dad's tiny white trunks and family have epic response "I've heard [Trudeau] feels a bit ambushed by all this," Shuter told the Daily Mail. "He wanted tickets to her show and she invited him. While that was going on, she invited him for dinner." The meeting came just a month after Perry confirmed her split from long-term partner Orlando Bloom. Meanwhile, Trudeau, 53, has kept a low profile since stepping down as PM earlier this year following a steep fall in popularity and a high-profile divorce from wife Sophie in 2023. Their rumoured romance comes at a time when both public figures could benefit from revamping their image. Toronto-based PR expert Natasha Koifman told CBC News: "I think that was actually probably a strategic move. I think it elevates both of their brands, for very different reasons, to be seen together." She added that the pair's very public dinner date was a "really great brand and reputational move". Despite the speculation, restaurant staff claimed there was "no PDA" between the pair. However, the duo didn't exactly try to go unnoticed, as they reportedly sat at a window-facing table and even visited the kitchen to thank the chefs. They were also seen walking one of Perry's dogs in a local park earlier that day, and two days later Trudeau was photographed in the audience with his daughter at Perry's Montreal concert. Neither Perry nor Trudeau has commented on the rumours. Meanwhile, Orlando Bloom was recently seen singing and dancing at an Oasis gig in Manchester after his split with Perry, and appeared to have not a care in the world. The actor shared several videos of his time at the concert on Instagram, where he was spotted partying in the VIP section with Liam Gallagher 's sons, Lennon, 25, and Gene, 24. Before the show, the actor posted a video captioned: "Road to Oasis. Could not be more f'in excited." In another clip, he added: "It's gonna be karaoke all night," as he smiled at the camera. He later warned his Instagram followers about the content of his stories, saying: "If you don't like @oasis swipe on – if you wanna see me run through some of my favourite karaoke numbers for laughs here you are lol."

Lola Young is overcome with emotion as she reveals she has bought her first house amid huge success ahead of second album
She soared to fame last year when her hit song Messy went viral and she made history after becoming the youngest British female artist to score a solo number-one single since Dua Lipa in 2017. Since then Lola Young's career has gone from strength to strength with the star preparing to release her second album in September. And the singer has now celebrated a huge milestone as she shared the news with fans that she has bought her first house. Taking to Instagram on Friday, Lola, 24, was overcome with emotion as she gushed how proud she is of herself after years of hard work. She told fans: 'I am currently sitting on the floor in one of the bedrooms of my new house that I have just bought. I am so proud of myself and emotional to be honest. 'I am so excited to start a new chapter of my life here and make memories, make so memories.' She added: 'So yeah working hard does pay off, it really does.' The star took to the stage at Glastonbury in June and is set to embark on shows across the UK and US in the autumn. Her latest single d£aler was released last week, with Elton John already 'betting his house' that it is going to be a number one single. 'It's unbelievable, it's the biggest smash I have heard in years,' said the legendary musician during a chat on Apple Music. He added: 'You are going to have the most incredible career, because you can sing live, you are just the whole deal.' Earlier this year Lola was forced to address allegations she is a 'nepo baby' or an 'industry plant ' after fans discovered her aunt is Julia Donaldson, the author behind the beloved children's book The Gruffalo. People also hit out, calling Lola an 'industry plant,' which is someone who presents as organically growing their fame but have actually been set up by a label. Appearing on Capital Buzz, host Sam Pearce asked the rising star: 'Something that happens any time an artist blows up, the term industry plant gets thrown around, and obviously people have no idea that you've been working since 2019. How do you feel about that term?' She continued: 'I am so excited to start a new chapter of my life here and make memories, make so memories' Hitting back at the 'losers that comment rubbish,' Lola quipped: 'No, they don't know, otherwise they wouldn't be saying that. I think it is just the most stupid term. 'I think there are cases of industry plants but so what? It doesn't mean they're not talented and it doesn't take away from anything. 'People are saying I'm a nepo baby because my great Aunt wrote The Gruffalo. I mean what kind of rubbish is that?' She continued: 'I have so much to say on that which I can't even talk about. But I'm not a nepo baby, I'm not an industry plant, there we go I said it. 'I've cleared that up for all those losers that want to comment rubbish on the internet. Just find something better to do, you're sad, you're lonely. 'The thing is industry plant is just a term for other artists and other people to use who just don't know what they're doing in life and feel upset that someone else is having their moment. 'And if you are an industry plant, you're not going to have your moment for that long, unfortunately. 'And maybe sometimes you will, it just doesn't matter, none of these things matter. If someone's got talent, then they've got talent.' She then clarified: 'Yeah, and I'm also not an industry plant at all by the way.'
