Venezuela opens an investigation into El Salvador's Bukele for alleged mistreatment of migrants
The migrants in question spent months detained in a maximum-security prison in the Central American country after being deported by the United Sates.
Attorney General Tarek William Saab said his office decided to open the probe after some of the migrants informed Venezuelan authorities of the alleged mistreatment. The investigation includes El Salvador's Justice Minister Gustavo Villatoro and the head of the prison system, Osiris Luna.
More than 250 migrants were held since March in a mega-prison known as the Terrorism Confinement Center, or CECOT, which was built to hold alleged gang members in Bukele's war on the country's gangs.
They were released on Friday by El Salvador in exchange for 10 U.S. nationals jailed in Venezuela, and as part of a three-country arrangement.

Two children and woman who died in Northern Ireland shooting named
Two children and a woman who died in a shooting in County Fermanagh have been named. Mother Vanessa Whyte, 45, and her children, Sara Rutledge, aged 13, and 14-year-old James Rutledge, died in the shooting on Wednesday morning, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said. A fourth person, a man, was seriously injured in the shooting at a property in the village of Maguiresbridge. Police launched a murder investigation, and Detective Chief Inspector Neil McGuinness asked people with information about the shooting incident to contact police. "I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who had spoken to Vanessa, Sara or James over the last few weeks. If you are someone that Vanessa, Sara or James may have confided in, please come and speak to us," he said. "Any information, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem could prove crucial to our investigation." Police don't anticipate any arrests being made at this stage, Superintendent Robert McGowan, district commander for Fermanagh and Omagh, said at a news conference on Wednesday. Emergency services were called to the Drummeer Road area of the village at around 8am on Wednesday following a report raised from the property. Two people were found dead at the scene, and two others were seriously injured. One patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, by air ambulance and the other to South West Acute Hospital by ambulance. Supt McGowan said the third person died at the South West Acute Hospital. A local Gaelic football club said the victims were all "active and beloved" members of their club. Sara and James Rutledge also used to be part of a local cricket club, which said in a statement that it was "extremely saddened by the tragic events". "Both of them turned out to be talented young cricketers and two absolutely lovely-natured children," the statement read. Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Hilary Benn said: "The news from Maguiresbridge is tragic and deeply distressing. "My thoughts are with the victims, their relatives and the local community in Fermanagh." Sinn Fein MP Pat Cullen has expressed her deep shock over the shooting. "I'm also thinking of all the wee school friends of those two wee children and what that must feel like for all of them and how the next few days and weeks will be for everyone, particularly just at the beginning of the school holidays," she said. DUP MLA Deborah Erskine, who represents Co Fermanagh in the Northern Ireland Assembly, said that the community was "stunned" by the shooting in "a rural, quiet area". Couple who died after arson attack remembered as ‘life and soul of the party'
A 'deeply loved' couple who died after an arson at their home are being remembered as the 'life and soul of the party'. Eric Greener, 77, and Sheila Jackson, 83, died following the blaze in St Helens, Merseyside, in the early hours of 15 July. Police have launched a murder investigation. 'Sheila and Eric, also known as our Queen and King, were a deeply loved mum, nan, great-Nan, sister, auntie, dad, step-dad, grandad, great-grandad, uncle and couple,' their family said in a tribute. 'They were known for being the life and soul of the party, always loving a song on the karaoke and enjoying a great caravan holiday. 'They will forever be devastatingly missed but eternally loved by their family, friends and the community.' Merseyside Police said an accelerant was used to start the blaze at the home on South John Street. The couple had lived at the home for 15 years. A 46-year-old man from Fazakerley remains in custody after he was arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday. A 31-year-old man from St Helens was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of murder and was conditionally bailed after questioning. Speaking earlier this week, Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson said: 'I know the community in St Helens is still feeling the shock and sadness of Eric and Sheila's tragic deaths. 'Our investigation team have been carrying out extensive inquiries into the incident and this second arrest demonstrates important progress is being made. 'We continue to ask the public to come forward with information, either directly to Merseyside Police or anonymously via Crimestoppers. 'If you have yet to come forward and recall seeing or hearing anything suspicious on or around South John Street around the time of the incident, please do not assume what you know has already been reported to us. 'Tell us what you know and we will assess all information as we build a full picture of what happened and ultimately seek to bring the perpetrators to justice.'
