Cardinals injury update: CB Jaden Davis given injury settlement, opening possible return
The Arizona Cardinals placed cornerback Jaden Davis on injured reserve last week following an injury in practice. Head coach Jonathan Gannon said there was a chance he could return later in the season. But for that to be possible, it would require him to be released from injured reserve with a settlement, because otherwise he would have had his season end.
On Friday, the Cardinals made that transaction, releasing Davis with an injury settlement.
According to Cards Wire's Howard Balzer, Friday was the deadline to give him such make such a move, allowing him to re-sign with the team later this season.
He officially cleared waivers, per the league's Saturday transaction report.
The NFL allows a player to re-sign with the team that released him with a settlement. League rules allow it after the settlement period (that depends on the amount the settlement was), plus a period of time, at least three weeks.
The last time I can recall the Cardinals taking advantage of this rule was a decade ago in 2015 when they placed safety Chris Clemons on injured reserve in October with a hamstring injury, later releasing him from IR with an injury settlement. He later re-signed in December after Tyrann Mathieu tore his ACL.
