Firefighters rescue dozens from burning high rise in Santiago
People waved shirts and other garments from the upper floors calling for help as a large plume of smoke rose into the sky. At least 15 fire companies responded, working quickly to successfully evacuate more than 100 people from the the building without loss of life. Some 40 people were treated on site, said Claudio Pavez, a coronel with Chile's national police force.
The building was located near the Plaza the Armas, one of the most bustling central area's of Santiago.
Juan Pablo Slako, a deputy commander with the firefighters, said that there were no fatalities and no serious injuries with most suffering smoke inhalation or shock.
'We don't have fire in the apartments, so we ask for calm,' said Álvaro Lara, vice superintendent of the firefighters, who added that the fire was controled.

A fire that began in a garden has spread to a nearby house in Totnes, firefighters have said. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said it received the call at about 14:20 fire engines were sent to the scene in the Pathfields area, said the fire injuries have been reported.

Two teenage boys airlifted to safety after getting stuck on cliff whilst hiking in Oregon
The US Coast Guard (USCG) rescued two teenagers who became stuck on a cliff whilst hiking in Oregon on Saturday (5 July). Footage shared by the USCG on Sunday (6 July) shows rescue workers lowering themselves down out of a helicopter to help the two stranded 14-year-old boys. A member of the fire department in Lincoln County - who had arrived first to rescue the teens - also required assistance after they too became stuck. The crew member can be securing one of the teens to themselves before airlifting them out to safety. They repeated the process with the other two individuals and all three were transferred to Siletz Bay State Airfield.
