'Elon was not popular': Trump administration's first reaction to Musk's 'America Party' amid MAGA meltdown
President Donald Trump or vice president JD Vance did not officially comment on Elon Musk launching his new party the 'America Party'. But the administration's first reaction is here as treasury secretary Scott Bessent commented on Musk's new political ambition.
Speaking on CNN's State of the Union, Bessent said Elon Musk was not actually popular, the principles of DOGE were popular.
'I believe that the boards of directors at his various companies wanted him to come back and run those companies,' Bessent said Sunday. 'So, I imagine that those board of directors did not like this announcement yesterday and will be encouraging him to focus on his business activities, not his political activities.'
Former DOGE adviser James Fishback wrote to Tesla Board and announced that his investment firm decided to postpone public listing of Azoria Tesla Convexity EFT after Elon Musk announced launching a new political party.
"In May, when Elon stepped back from his work at DOGE and returned his attention to Tesla, we were encouraged. With Elon fully engaged, he gave shareholders renewed confidence in Tesla's future. Elon's announcement today undermines that confidence," Fishback wrote.

as Musk proceeds with America Party paperwork
'By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!' Musk added in a Saturday post on X, referring to an X poll he conducted asking his followers if they would support a third party. 'Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.'
The paperwork was filed Sunday morning with Tesla CFO Vaibhav Taneja listed as the treasurer of the party.
MAGA influencers concluded that like Vivek Ramaswamy, Elon Musk too turned out to be a traitor who does not have America's interest as priority. 'Elon launching the 'America Party; Will make it easier for Dems to win in the future!' wrote conservative Dear America founder Graham Allen. '@elonmusk this is a mistake……please listen to reason!'
"Elon has decided to destroy America because he doesn't understand how our political system works.
I agree with Elon that the BBB spends too much. But we need 60 votes in the Senate and more than a 7 seat margin in the House to do what he wants to do," commentator Ben Hart said.
Speculations were rife that Elon Musk may rope in Mike Pence to lead the party as social media was abuzz with the names of probably candidates who would like to join the party.
But some unusual allies showed interest including former Trump aide Anthony Scaramucci and billionaire Mark Cuban. Both of them endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.
Former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang and a former Republican representative from Michigan Justin Amash also showed interest.

Ross Perot was a businessman and industrialist from Texas who ran for the US presidency as an independent candidate in 1992 and 1996, losing both times to Bill Clinton. Perot passed away in 2019. Others were angry at Musk's seeming betrayal of President Trump. 'You turned out to be a real Trojan horse. There is nothing in you but a thirst for power and profit. First round of Gaza ceasefire talks between Israel-Hamas ends inconclusively
The first round of indirect ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas in Qatar have ended without a breakthrough and the Israeli delegation reportedly didn't have a sufficient mandate to reach an agreement with Hamas, reports stated. The talks, which lasted for about three and a half hours and took place in two buildings in Qatar's capital Doha, resumed on Sunday ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's scheduled visit to the United States to meet President Donald Trump, his third visit to Washington since the Republican leader returned to power in January. A BBC report stated that messages and clarifications were exchanged between Israel and Hamas via mediators Egypt and Qatar but no progress could be achieved. The talks are scheduled to resume again on Monday, as mediators Egypt and Qatar have planned to hold separate meetings with each delegation to overcome the obstacles and narrow the gaps for a possible ceasefire deal. Two Palestinian sources, quoted by Reuters, said 'After the first session of indirect negotiations in Doha, the Israeli delegation is not sufficiently authorized…to reach an agreement with Hamas, as it has no real powers.' Ahead of his departure to Washington, Netanyahu said that Israeli negotiators taking part in the ceasefire talks in Doha have been given clear instructions to achieve a ceasefire deal with Hamas but under the conditions that Tel Aviv has accepted. Crowds gathered in Tel Aviv at a public square outside the defence ministry's office and called for a ceasefire in hostilities with Gaza and return of at least 50 hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza. The demonstrators carried Israeli flags, photos of the hostages and chanted for a ceasefire in hostilities. Hamas had earlier responded to the latest ceasefire negotiations with a positive approach, however, the gaps between the two sides still remains widened and requires mediation to be bridged for a feasible resolution of the Gaza crisis.
