After a heartbreaking recruiting loss early on the Fourth of July, the Texas Longhorns 2026 recruiting class got a big win with the commitment of four-star offensive tackle John Turntine III.
The prospect from North Crowley High School told OrangeBloods.com the coaching staff was a big reason he chose to play in Austin.
"I really appreciate the coaches being real. They're good people too. I can tell they're genuine people. They're here for their job and to get players developed and to get players better." -- John Turntine III to OrangeBloods ($)
The 6-foot-3.5, 285 pound prospect is the No. 2 interior offensive lineman in the country and No. 4 overall prospect in Texas, according to Rivals.com. Texas beat out Michigan, Stanford, Texas A&M and Alabama.

Micah Parsons Poised for Breakout Season Under Matt Eberflus
Micah Parsons Poised for Breakout Season Under Matt Eberflus originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Dallas Cowboys superstar EDGE defender Micah Parsons is entering his fifth year in the league and is undoubtedly one of the NFL's best defensive playmakers. Advertisement He is stepping into a leadership role this season as he's talked about wanting the defensive line unit to work together more as a group during the offseason. "Just being vocal, understanding what looks right," Parsons said during minicamp. "They're going through the drills and guys ask me; 'How'd I look?', just simple things, 'How's my footwork?', it's not always the major things that make football great, it's always the small details, the footwork, the positioning, the angles, things like that I think I can contribute." Parsons will now have a chance to be an be even more dynamic chess piece in new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus' scheme. ... Maybe even the NFL's very best defensive chess piece. Advertisement Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleksi believes that under Eberflus, Parsons is a candidate to win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award for the first time. 'Parsons is the most difficult pass-rusher in the NFL to contain because of his explosiveness and capability of playing multiple positions along the defensive front seven—which the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff plans to take full advantage of under the direction of new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus,' Sobleski wrote. Eberflus plans to utilize Parsons' full, versatile skillset as defender by putting him and his teammates in positions to succeed. "We had a meeting—him and I had about a half-hour meeting yesterday on that very subject, just him and I in my office," Eberflus told the Doomsday Podcast. "And for him, you have to move this guy around. Now, what's great about our current roster is that we have other rushers now that can rush. So to pay attention to one particular rusher is going to be more difficult than if you just had one on one side. That's going to be a good thing, too." Advertisement With a renewed focus on leadership, attention to detail, and a defensive scheme tailored to his strengths, Parsons is poised to take his game and the Cowboys defense to a whole new level in 2025. ... maybe all the way up to the point at which Micah wins the NFL's top defensive honor. A New Era Begins in Dallas With a Nod to the Past
A New Era Begins in Dallas With a Nod to the Past originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In just six months as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Brian Schottenheimer is already making a powerful impression—not only on his current roster but also on the legends who built the franchise's legacy. Advertisement On May 30, Schottenheimer and the Cowboys hosted 'Legends Day,' welcoming about 25 former Cowboys players from various eras to attend one of the organized team activities at The Star. "I was just blown away,' said former defensive lineman Tony Casillas, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Cowboys back in the 1990s. "Magnetic personality. Very positive. [Schottenheimer] just kind of captured my respect. I believe in first impressions. I don't know how it's going to transition into the season, but I just like that he captivated all of us that were there." The former Dallas players got a chance to be present in position meetings and speak to the current players—offering tips and mentorship. Schottenheimer's central theme as head coach has been 'Compete Every Day,' and he wanted the former Cowboys to witness firsthand the energy and intensity the team brings on a daily basis. Advertisement And he announced to the legends that they are welcome at his team's workouts any time. "There's such great tradition and history here with the Cowboys, and you talk about not just the Super Bowl trophies, but some of the great players," Schottenheimer said. "We wanted them to kind of see our energy and our juice, the way we like to operate. They paved the way for the guys that sit in those chairs today. "I mean they're part of our family. It's like having an uncle or grandfather, in some cases, that you can use as a sounding board. You can use as a mentor. Are they going to be friends? Hell, I hope so. But if they're not, there's experiences that they can garner from the likes of Randy White, Bob Lilly, Michael Irvin, Dat Nguyen." By bridging generations of Cowboys through shared passion and purpose, Schottenheimer is not only honoring the past, but also laying the foundation for a new era of excellence in Dallas. Cowboys' George Pickens Laughs at Steelers Trade and Reveals One-Word Dallas Prediction
Cowboys' George Pickens Laughs at Steelers Trade and Reveals One-Word Dallas Prediction originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO — George Pickens clearly feels like he escaped from a place that was no longer "beautiful'' to him via his trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Dallas Cowboys. Advertisement And now the controversial wide receiver is celebrating the same fate just granted to an old "broski.'' The Miami Dolphins are sending Jalen Ramsey to the Steelers in a package that also includes Jonnu Smith. Going to Miami is Minkah Fitzpatrick, a standout defensive player in his own right. Most of the discussion about the blockbuster deal is about money, fit and the fun of the new Pittsburgh corner Ramsey essentially "breaking the story'' all by himself on social media. Miami did this because it didn't want to spend the money to keep its two players, and the Steelers did it because, along with the Aaron Rodgers signing, they are in a go-for-it mode. Advertisement But what do people think about the Fitzpatrick part of the swap? Pickens, who spent the first three years of his career in Pittsburgh, has a thought. "Super happy for you broski !!!!!!'' George writes on his IG page. "Back to beautiful places in life lol.' The Steelers deserve some credit for assertively pulling the trigger on some big moves this offseason, as evidenced in a previous trade for receiver DK Metcalf and the signings of cornerback Darius Slay Jr. and Rodgers. Also in that category is their give-up on Pickens, who apparently was in a place where the club was tired of his act ... and where the feeling was mutual. Advertisement Pickens feels he is in a "beautiful" place now, as a key cog in the Dak Prescott-led offense, as the new receiver works in tandem with All-Pro wideout CeeDee Lamb. Just how happy is he? Happy enough to be issuing a one-word prediction on what he's about to bring to Dallas. "Swag,'' he said. Ramsey certainly fills a need, though he brings another big personality after the Steelers have added several such players this offseason. But the talent is undeniable and one that could be a major difference for the Steelers this season.
