American Airlines will let some passengers skip the customs line at this airport
American is piloting a one-stop security program that lets connecting passengers clear customs at the gate and not need to have their bags re-screened before proceeding to a domestic flight in Dallas.
"One Stop Security is one of the most forward-thinking enhancements we can bring to international travel – and importantly, to our customers – as it delivers a level of convenience and time-savings that's never been available before to customers connecting from international flights," David Seymour, American's Chief Operating Officer, said in a statement.
"With this game-changing program and thanks to our federal partners at (Customs and Border Protection) and (the Transportation Security Administration), along with (Dallas Fort Worth) Airport, our customers will spend significantly less time worrying about an onerous connection process and more time enjoying their travel journey,' he said.
The airline expects the program to reduce connection times for eligible passengers by more than half.
For now, the program is only a pilot available to passengers departing London Heathrow and connecting to domestic American Airlines flights at DFW, but the airline said it "plans to explore opportunities to expand OSS to additional flights and U.S. airports in the future."
American Airlines announced a similar program at London's Heathrow Airport in February, where passengers departing DFW and connecting onto international (non-U.K.) flights to avoid going through security re-screening in London.

Jets owner Woody Johnson completes purchase of stake in Premier League club Crystal Palace
LONDON (AP) — Crystal Palace confirmed Thursday that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson's purchase of Eagle Football's shareholding in the Premier League club has been completed. 'I am honored and privileged to be joining the ownership group of Crystal Palace Football Club,' Johnson told the club website. Palace announced last month that Johnson had signed 'a legally binding contract' to buy the shares of fellow American John Textor, who had a 43% stake in the London club, with reports at the time placing the price between $220 million and $260 million. The latest club statement gave no financial details. Johnson joins chairman Steve Parish, Josh Harris and David Blitzer as a partner and director of the club, and has also signed the Premier League's Owners' Charter. 'It is an organization with a proud history, tradition, and deep roots in English football in South London, which I came to admire during my time as US Ambassador to the United Kingdom," Johnson said. Palace finished 12th last season in the 20-team Premier League. Competition dispute Johnson's arrival at Palace comes with the club in dispute with UEFA over which European competition it will play in next season after winning the FA Cup in May — its first major trophy in 120 years of existence. Palace was demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League after falling foul of UEFA's rules governing multi-club ownership, but has submitted an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. UEFA determined that as of March 1, Textor had control or influence in Palace and French club Lyon. Textor said he had agreed to sell his stake in Palace to Johnson, but the move came too late to satisfy UEFA. ___ AP soccer:

Big Layoffs Keep Coming as the Remaking of Intel Rolls On
More layoffs are coming at Intel, the latest Big Tech company to make big cuts in its staff. The American chip giant on Thursday afternoon said in a letter from CEO Lip-Bu Tan, published online in concert with the company's latest financial results, that it plans to end the year with a workforce of around 75,000 after "workforce reductions and attrition,' cutting jobs by about 15%. That would mark a substantial year-over-year reduction from the nearly 10,000 employees Intel (INTC) reported at the end of 2024. Several large U.S. tech firms have taken similar steps in recent months as they've sought to cut costs, sustain profits and restructure operations: Microsoft (MSFT) in early July confirmed plans for thousands of layoffs, while Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL) was making buyout offers last month. "We are making hard but necessary decisions to streamline the organization, drive greater efficiency and increase accountability at every level of the company," Tan wrote Thursday. The company as it has sought to turn around its business and revitalize interest in its stock has taken on staffing as well as strategic questions. Earlier this year it said it expected hybrid employees to be on site at least four days a week by Sept. 1, a move Tan said today was "on track." And job cuts that happened in Q2, Tan wrote, reduced "the number of management layers by about 50%." "All of this is designed to drive organizational effectiveness and transform our culture," Tan wrote. Shares of Intel edged about 1% higher in after-hours trading. Trump and Fed Chair JEROME POWELL, wearing matching white hard hats, inspected the $2.5 billion renovation that Trump has suggested is an example of Powell's mismanagement, and offered a few comments for the cameras. 'I'd love for him to lower interest rates,' Trump said as he patted Powell on the back. Powell stood, looking awkward, in silence. It was the latest escalation of a monthslong pressure campaign against the United States' independent central bank as Trump pummels Powell for refusing to lower interest rates. Trump, who claims the higher interest rates are costing American taxpayers $1 trillion a year in additional borrowing costs, has repeatedly called for Powell to step down and even drafted a letter to fire him. 'We would be helped if interest rates would come down, but we're going to see how the board rules on that soon,' Trump said. 'I'd love to see them come down a lot, but we have a country that's thriving.' Powell has said he expects to lower rates sometime later this year, but has held off as he and his fellow officials watch whether Trump's tariffs lead to significantly higher inflation. The Pentagon is also reviewing the agency's participation in other top security conferences. It specifically banned attendance at the Halifax International Security Forum, which takes place in Nova Scotia each winter and the Pentagon chief typically attends. The public affairs, general counsel and policy teams will review all requests for participation at events and will ask for officials' remarks and talking points in advance. Pentagon spokesperson SEAN PARNELL said in a statement that the measures were taken 'to ensure the Department of Defense is not lending its name and credibility to organizations, forums, and events that run counter to the values of this administration.' 'DO WHAT Y'ALL NEED TO DO': Top EPA appointees acted swiftly and provided virtually no reason for firing members of two science advisory committees, POLITICO's E&E News' SEAN REILLY reports. NOT FEELING IT: EPA is moving ahead with its plan to lay off hundreds of staffers within the agency's environmental justice programs, POLITICO's E&E News' ELLIE BORST and Reilly report. Following a court-ordered pause that left employees in limbo for six weeks, 'we intend to move forward with the previously announced RIF,' said EPA spokesperson MOLLY VASELIOU. EPA put 168 environmental justice staffers on leave in early February.
