Video: President Turns Emotional As Visually Impaired Children Sing Birthday Song
President Droupadi Murmu, who is on a three-day visit to Uttarakhand, was moved to tears on Friday as a group of visually impaired children sang a song to wish her on her 67th birthday.
Ms Murmu visited the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD) here. Addressing the children, the president said she got emotional as they sang beautifully.
"I could not hold back my tears. They were singing so beautifully. They were singing from their heart," she said.

The president said the talent possessed by the group reaffirmed her view that children born with disabilities are blessed with certain special abilities. She also encouraged them to move ahead with confidence, saying their success is certain.
Ms Murmu asserted that the government policies are designed to empower people with disabilities and provide them equal opportunities to grow.
She commended everyone associated with the institute for working with dedication to empower children born with disabilities.
"India's history is full of instances of human kindness and inclusiveness," she said and asked the children to contribute to nation-building by getting empowered through education.
Addressing the children, Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (retd) said the country is passing through a transformative phase.
"We are moving steadily towards achieving the vision of a strong India by 2047 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. You are an integral part of this journey of nation-building," the governor said.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wished the president a long and healthy life so that the country continues to get the advantage of her guidance.
"Her life has been full of struggles. Coming from a very humble background, she rose to positions of eminence and always worked for the uplift of the deprived sections," the chief minister said.
The president arrived in Uttarakhand on Thursday. She would inaugurate a renovated President's Retreat -- renamed Rashtrapati Niketan -- for the public here later in the day. She would also inaugurate and lay the foundation of various projects on its sprawling campus.
The president will leave for Delhi on June 21 after participating in a yoga demonstration programme at the Police Lines here on International Yoga Day.

These Quad partners make up 35 per cent of the world's GDP. They have an incredible impact and influence on the world. Leveraging their resources, expertise and skills to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific was the priority for this meeting... She said the United States, under President Donald Trump's leadership, remains focused on peace in the Indo-Pacific. During the meeting, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar raised the issue of terrorism and referred to India's recent military action, Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. 'A word about terrorism in light of our recent experience. The world must display zero tolerance. Victims and perpetrators must never be equated and India has every right to defend its people against terrorism and we will exercise that right. We expect our Quad partners to understand and appreciate that,' Jaishankar said. He also underlined India's continued commitment to the strategic aims of the Quad. 'I am very pleased to be back in DC for the second time this year for Quad's Foreign Ministers' Meeting, and let me begin by saying we are all committed to ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific. 'The Quad unequivocally condemns all acts of terrorism and violent extremism in all their forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism, and renews our commitment to counterterrorism cooperation. We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen while injuring several others. We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and extend our heartfelt wishes for a swift and full recovery to all those injured,' the statement said. "No dissatisfaction in our party," says MP Rajashekar Hitnal, backing Siddaramaiah as CM for five years
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 2 (ANI): Congress MP Rajashekar Basavaraj Hitnal on Wednesday said that a notice had been issued to Congress MLA Iqbal Hussain and confirmed that further action would be taken against him. He dismissed reports of internal dissent within the Congress and affirmed that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would remain in office for the full five-year term. 'A notice has already been given to Iqbal Hussain, it is not just a notice, action will be taken against him... There is no dissatisfaction in our party... Siddaramaiah will be the CM for five years,' Hitnal said. The remarks come after Congress MLA Iqbal Hussain publicly backed Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. On July 1, Hussain had said, 'Undoubtedly, 200 per cent, he (DK Shivakumar) will be the CM (of Karnataka) within two months... If the party wants to survive, if we want to see Congress in power in 2028, we need a change. We need a good administration. This is the right time... Shivakumar has given a wonderful contribution to the party... He should be made the CM for Congress to come to power in 2028. This is the opinion of most MLAs. We have to think about our future and our party also... This is the right time to bring DK Shivakumar as the CM...' The BJP has claimed that these remarks point to a rift within the Congress-led state government. However, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah rejected these allegations, calling them baseless. The Chief Minister also challenged the BJP to present evidence of their developmental work during their time in power. 'They were in power. Let them tell what they have done? As our DK Shivakumar says, what have they done? They did nothing... Health, education, PWD, rural development, and irrigation, they have done nothing. No proofs. Message of Operation Sindoor conveyed with great clarity: EAM
Washington DC [US], July 2 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday said that the 'main objective' of Operation Sindoor was to show the world that if there are terrorist attacks, India will stand against the perpetrators, supporters and the enablers of it adding that the message of the operation was conveyed with great clarity during his meeting with his counterparts of QUAD. 'With each of my counterparts, I have shared with them the sense that the nature of the terrorists challenge, the fact that we have confronted it over multiple decades and that we are very resolved today to respond to it very firmly and we have the right to defend ourselves,' Jaishankar said during a press conference in US. The EAM is on a visit to the United States to attend the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting (QFMM). US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Japan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Takeshi Iwaya, and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong were also present for the meeting. Talking about Operation Sindoor, which was India's response to the Pahalgam terror attack, Jaishankar added, 'The perpetrators of terrorism must be held accountable, they must be brought to justice and that's important because we have to communicate to the world that what we did on May 7, the objective of Operation Sindoor is that if there are terrorist attacks, we will act against the perpetrators, the supporters, the enablers. That message was conveyed with great clarity.' The Minister also appreciated the all-party delegation sent by India to brief various countries about the Operation and to expose Pakistan's support for terrorism. 'I have spoken about the all-party delegations in very much value and appreciate what they serves our national interest. When you have a broadband set of people who speak with one voice abroad, it conveys a strong message of national unity. It underlines a certain seriousness about responding to terrorism,' he added. Operation Sindoor emerged as a calibrated military response to an evolving pattern of asymmetric warfare, one that increasingly targets unarmed civilians along with military personnel. The terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam in April 2025 served as a grim reminder of this shift. India's response was deliberate, precise, and strategic. Without crossing the Line of Control or international boundary, Indian forces struck terrorist infrastructure and eliminated multiple threats, government in a release stated. (ANI)
