Colts' QB competition building momentum after training camp practice No. 6

USA Today2 days ago
Colts' QB's Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones are building momentum after training camp practice No. 6.
Building momentum, both Indianapolis Colts' quarterbacks, Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones, put together strong training camp performances once again on Tuesday.
According to the Indy Star's Nate Atkins, it was another "really solid day" for Richardson. Overall, Richardson was 8-for-13 in the 11-on-11 periods.
Atkins added that Richardson showcased "nice placement" on shorter throws outside the numbers. Richardson also "lofted a smark under-pressure deep ball" to Anthony Gould, who he threw open.
The improved accuracy that Richardson seems to be showcasing in recent days was a priority for him this offseason, as he emphasized the short and intermediate routes in the passing game.
"I just feel like I'm working," Richardson said via Locked on Colts. "Trying to be better than what I was yesterday and the day before. I'm just trying to do my job and bring my best foot forward for the team and do that every single play."
Jones, meanwhile, "stacked another high quality day," wrote Jake Arthur of Horseshoe Huddle. Arthur added that Jones was 7-for-10 passing during the team's 11-on-11 periods.
After relatively slow starts for both quarterbacks at the start of training camp, each seems to be finding their own rhythm in the last few practices.
As Shane Steichen has mentioned, consistency will determine who is starting Week 1.
"It's quite a few things," passing game coordinator Alex Tanney said. "It's command of the offense and the huddle. It's command of the line of scrimmage--if you have multiple plays called, getting us in and out of the right play. Moving guys pre-snap, snapping things at the right time, and then making good decisions with the football, and being the leader of the offense. It's all-encompassing. There's a lot of things that go into it."

Late NFL owner's home on course where John Daly made history is on sale for $12 million

The $12 million lavish Carmel, Indiana, mansion owned by the late Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay is for sale, a 24,000-square-foot estate that borders Crooked Stick Golf Club and features two separate standalone guest homes. Built in 1996, the home sits on 9.4 gated acres and features a Zen garden, seven fireplaces, a private Par 3 golf hole, full nanny's quarters with kitchen, an indoor pool pavilion, a home theater and speakeasy and a full-size indoor basketball court with Colts markings on the hardwood. "Subtle touches throughout reflect Irsay's pride in the Colts organization and his vision of home as a place of both inspiration and retreat," listing agent Steve Decatur, who confirmed to IndyStar the home belonged to Irsay, said in a statement. "Rarely does a property of this scale, provenance, and privacy become available — a true legacy estate in the heart of the Midwest. The 6-bedroom, 12-bath home includes two primary suites (on the main floor and upper level), an outdoor resort-style pool with an expansive entertaining space, tennis court with viewing pavilion, custom children's play area and a 6-car garage at the main residence, according to the listing provided by Decatur with The Decatur Group of Century 21 Real Estate. The property was "designed for both serenity and grandeur," reads the listing. In addition to the massive main residence, there are two standalone guest homes, including The Cabin, a newly built 2,700 square foot abode with three bedrooms and three and a half baths. A second cottage features two bedrooms and two bathrooms. "This world-class estate is one of Central Indiana's most iconic and private residential offerings," the listing says. The home borders Crooked Stick, a nationally acclaimed Pete Dye-designed course known for hosting major championships, including the 1991 PGA Championship, on Aug. 11, 1991, when John Daly mesmerized and shocked the golf world by taking the title. "This is like a miracle," Daly said after draining a four-foot par putt on the final hole. "It just doesn't happen that often." Irsay died in his sleep at the age of 65 on May 21. Colts Star Ranks Among NFL's Best in ESPN's 2025 Rankings

Colts Star Ranks Among NFL's Best in ESPN's 2025 Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler has been releasing a top 10 list for each NFL position over the past week, with his interior offensive line edition coming out early Saturday morning. These rankings are determined based on votes from anonymous NFL executives, coaches, and scouts, offering insight into how the league views the top players at each interior offensive line rankings featured some surprises, such as Dallas Cowboys left guard Tyler Smith landing at second on the list in his first time being included in the top 10. Following the retirement of future Hall of Famer Zack Martin this offseason, the top of the list features few consistent names from year to year. However, the one player who has made the top 3 every season since the list's inception in 2020 is Indianapolis Colts star left guard Quenton Nelson. Nelson has consistently been among the league's best interior offensive linemen throughout his entire career, as reflected by his seven Pro Bowl selections — one for each season he's played. Nelson is a fan-favorite at guard, with a violent, road-grading playstyle that has warmed the hearts of O-line enthusiasts since he entered the league in 2018. He's been the beating heart of the Colts franchise, helping propel their rushing attack to top 10 finishes in both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in four of his seven seasons. Nelson's case for being one of the best guards in the league is backed by both the eye test and stats. On the field, Nelson remains one of the most athletic guards in the league, consistently mowing down defenders in space. Here's one such example, where Nelson flattens Derek Stingley Jr. and continues chugging down the field to find more work. Statistically, Nelson is still among the best at his position as well. Per ESPN's blocking win rate stat, Nelson ranks in the top 20 for pass-block win rate (94.4%) and is tied for first in run block win rate (77%). Some consider Nelson to be an all-timer at the position, but he's at least one of the best in the game right now, according to one of the evaluators interviewed for ESPN's piece. "Honestly, nobody else has really taken the top spot from him," an NFC executive said. "I don't think there's a dominant interior OL right now. He's the closest thing." Nelson has been a buoy of stability for a Colts team that has been anything but in recent years. If the Colts can right the ship in 2025, hopefully they can give Nelson the chance to compete for postseason success story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 14, 2025, where it first appeared.

Anthony Richardson Showing Off Improved Accuracy at Colts Practice

When the Indianapolis Colts were looking to move on from Matt Ryan, they signed Gardner Minshew and fell in love with Anthony Richardson in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Colts liked Richardson so much that they made him the fourth overall pick in the draft. Yet, Richardson arrived in the NFL as a very raw prospect who needed to become more consistent as a passer. While his running abilities were on full display, Richardson's stardom quickly took a hit by surviving just 15 out of 34 games in his first two seasons due to injury. He's also had some serious issues with accuracy, completing an NFL-worst 50.6% of his passes since arriving in the league. Yet, after working to overcome various shoulder concerns in past seasons, Richardson has finally had a healthy offseason to refine his craft, and he's facing some stiff competition for the starting job in the form of former No. 6 overall pick Daniel Jones. However, according to The Athletic's Colts expert Zak Keefer, Richardson 'was sharper than Jones' during the team's first two padded practices. In doing so, Richardson reportedly showed off 'some improved accuracy.' Of course, two days of work won't be the leading factor when determining who the starter should be. Yet, it's a good start for a player who needed to get off on the right foot. Whether it's enough to hold off Jones throughout training camp remains to be seen, but it's fair to say that Richardson running away with the job would be a great development for Indianapolis.
