Clare GAA expressed their shock and profound sadness at the news, while Ennistymon GAA said his passing will leave 'a void in the club that we will all struggle to deal with together in the days, months and years ahead'.
A former Clare minor and U-20 footballer, the deceased was a nephew of Joe Joe Rouine, a pillar on the Clare team that created history by beating Kerry in the 1992 Munster SFC final.
Tributes have been led by Clare GAA and the player's home club.
'The Clare GAA community is deeply shocked and profoundly saddened by the untimely passing of Ennistymon's Éanna Rouine on Tuesday morning,' Clare GAA posted.
'Éanna was an extremely talented and promising young footballer with both club and county . He represented Clare at minor level in 2021, was part of the Clare U-20 panel from 2022 to 2024 and was a star of the Ennistymon CBS football team when the school landed the famous achievement of a provincial double in 2023.
'Éanna was a second year student at UL and had already won an All-Ireland Freshers football title with the college. While important achievements and now so important to cherish, these of course are only measures of him as an athlete and a player.
'Above anything else, Éanna was a popular and beloved young man with his whole life ahead of him. His loss has left a void that words cannot fill, and his absence will be felt not only on the field but in the hearts of all who knew him in his community and circle of friends in North Clare.
'At this heartbreaking time, Clare GAA extends its deepest condolences and sympathies to his clubmates, his many friends, and, above all, to his devastated and heartbroken family: parents Catríona and John and his siblings Eoin, Dara and Bríd Áine and the extended Rouine and O'Gorman families.
'We stand in solidarity with them in their grief, and we honour the memory of a young life taken far too soon. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.'
His home club echoed those sentiments. All in Ennistymon GAA are shocked and saddened at the untimely passing of our great teammate and friend Éanna,' they posted on social media.
'A truly talented & accomplished sportsman, but much more than that he was intelligent, witty, a strong academic performer, a talented musician, a loyal friend and a loving son, grandson and brother.
'His on-field successes are too numerous to list. His passing will leave a void in the club that we will all struggle to deal with together in the days, months and years ahead.
'To his parents Catríona and John, his brothers Eoin and Dara, his sister Bríd Áine, his grandmother Bridget, his uncles, aunts, cousins and all the Rouine and O'Gorman families, we offer our sincere heartfelt condolences, in the knowledge that no words can truly console you at this terrible time. Ar Dheis de go raibh a anam.'
Éanna's death notice described him as 'a bright, kind hearted and spirited young man whose presence brought joy to all who knew him. A son, a brother, a grandson, a cousin, a nephew and a friend, he touched lives with his laughter, kindness and his beautiful smiling face.'
Éanna will repose at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Lahinch this Saturday from 3pm to 6pm.
Requiem mass to celebrate Éanna's life will take place on Sunday at 1pm, followed by burial in Kilmacreehy Cemetery.

'I'm just gutted for the girls. The game was nearly over at half time'

MEATH MANAGER SHANE McCormack holds his head in his hands before facing the press. The 12-point All-Ireland final defeat to Dublin is hitting home. 'I'm just gutted for the girls, to be honest,' he begins after the 2-16 to 0-10 loss. 'We were always doubted, even at the start of the year before a ball was thrown in, to even get to a quarter-final stage. But we did believe within our circle that we would achieve it. Advertisement 'We (previously) played Dublin three times this year. A 16-point trimming in the league wasn't good so we sat down that week and had a chat among ourselves and we kind of worked on different tactics. And in fairness to the girls with the Leinster campaign, obviously we lost to Dublin in the Leinster final but we were gutted because Dublin got the last eight points without a reply from us. 'So coming into today's game, we knew what was going to happen but the game was nearly over at half time. In fairness to our girls, they battled to the end. I think we were 11 down at half time. In the second half, pretty pleased that we came out of the blocks quick enough. I think we lost the second half by a point. But I'm just gutted for the girls because they're a fantastic bunch.' It's Meath's first All-Ireland senior final defeat in their history. The Royals won their first in 2021, ending Dublin's Drive for Five, and backed it up in 2022. Two consecutive quarter-final defeats to Kerry followed, before they turned the tables and dethroned the 2024 champions in this year's semi-final. That was a huge performance — a stark contrast to today as they trailed by 13 points at one stage in the first half, and failed to score from play until after the restart. Vikki Wall dejected as Dublin celebrate. Leah Scholes / INPHO Leah Scholes / INPHO / INPHO 'Dublin were a little bit hungrier, to be honest,' McCormack continues, rueing 'small margins' like Vikki Wall's spurned goal opportunity when they trailed by one point early doors. 'In the first five or 10 minutes, they hit the blocks running. But there were a few passes that went astray with our girls. Obviously if the goal chances went in, I'm not saying it would have changed the result but we would have been in a different position at half time. It's very hard going in at half time in an All-Ireland final when you're 11 points down. The positive would be for our girls that they came out quick enough there in the second half.' 'When any Dublin team get ahead, they're very hard to claw back,' the former Kildare goalkeeper adds. 'But credit to Dublin today, they're a super team with multiple All-Stars and All-Ireland medal winners. 'We had 16 new girls onto the panel from last year and this year. I think nine girls got their first-ever senior start in an All-Ireland final today, so there are a lot of positives. It is healthy, even with the Under-20s winning the Leinster the other night as well. So it's very positive for Meath ladies football.' ***** Check out the latest episode of The42′s GAA Weekly podcast here

Louth's Kate Flood calls times on distinguished inter-county career with All-Ireland medal

The St Patrick's Lordship club player made the announcement when speaking with local Louth journalists after Sunday's game. Recently married and now with another All-Ireland medal in her back pocket, Flood joked her year, 'hasn't been that bad' and when asked about he own plans for next season, she said: 'It's something I've obviously thought about and yeah, it's not an easy one for me to say, but this was my last outing for Louth. I'm very proud of it.' With a slight quiver in her voice she added: 'I'm not going to get emotional now, I've done enough crying, but it's been an absolute privilege to be able to pull on the county jersey and run out with the girls that have been there, and the previous girls, but there's savage talent coming through Louth and I just wish them all the best.' Flood's announcement came at the end of an interview where she reflected on the game, included the worst possible start for Louth with Antrim converting a penalty in the opening minutes. 'Yeah, the penalty, we weren't obviously expecting it,' said Flood. 'But we prepared ourselves for moments like that in the game. The girls, they're gave away the penalty, that's fine, but we dug deep and then we got the scores on the board going into half-time so we were one up and we were happy enough with that.' Louth showed no signs of panic after the early setback and eventually worked their way back into the game but psychologically how much of a boost was it drawing level and then going in ahead at half-time? 'We know Antrim are a strong side, they're fast, they're physical and going into the game we just had to focus on what we'd been training to do,' she said. 'We've done scenarios where we might have given away a penalty or been down five points at half-time and we just stuck to the game plan and luckily enough that got us over the line.' 'We knew if we got a couple of points ahead that we'd be able to drive on. There's plenty of girls that are well able to take scores. A lot of runners that would just run all day. And yeah, we're just delighted that we got the win in the end.' ADVERTISEMENT When Louth opened up a five-point lead did Flood think it was a done deal at that stage and was there a tendency to look at the clock and see time was running out on Antrim? 'I think everyone was looking at the clock at one stage waiting for the hooter to go off,' said the Louth full-forward. 'But we just had to play it right to the final whistle and anything can happen on these days, you could have got a goal there, they were very unlucky not to get a goal in the end but we kept them out.' Antrim did finished with a flourish, with Louth having to line the goal for a late Antrim free to make sure the ball didn't end up in the back of the net. That would have been a travesty as Louth were the better team over the hour and the last thing they wanted was to be leaving with a draw and then the prospect of a reply. 'No definitely not, but look these are the days you want to play, you want a hard battle,' said Flood. 'You don't want to be coming here and walking all over teams. This will prepare us for next year so we're obviously delighted the goal didn't go in at the end.' Over a long career, Flood has given enormous and great service to Louth, was this victory up there with some of the previous successes she'd enjoyed with this team? 'Yeah definitely,' she replied. 'It's been a long 15 years but I wouldn't change anything for the world. I'm really proud to be part of the county set-up and I can't wait to be supporting the girls next year and I hope they all give their all…they're a special bunch.'
