Jaipur Voted World's 5th Best City By Travel And Leisure's 2025 Survey
Popularly known as the Pink City, Jaipur boasts not one but three UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Walled City of Jaipur, where every building is painted in a signature pink hue, earned its UNESCO tag for its remarkably preserved medieval urban planning.
The majestic Amber Fort and the iconic astronomical marvel, Jantar Mantar, are the other two UNESCO-recognised landmarks. With all three located within city limits, Jaipur stands among a rare group of global destinations to hold three World Heritage tags in one city.
"Happy with the ranking its is a matter of pride not just for rajasthan but for the entire country," said Rajasthan Tourism minister Diya Kumari (Former princess of Jaipur).
'Jaipur is the only Indian city to receive this global ranking this year. Udaipur had achieved it once, but Jaipur continues to be a preferred destination worldwide. In fact, a city from Rajasthan often makes it to the list, which speaks volumes about the state's cultural and tourism appeal,' she added
"It is also our duty as citizens to take ownership of our city and keep it clean. This is our city, and the responsibility lies with us. When people actively take pride and responsibility for their surroundings, Jaipur will not only become number one in cleanliness, but also in attracting investments and tourism," she further said.
Diya kumari also gave credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for putting India on the global map, she also thanked the rajasthan government for its policies that preserve heritage and culture in the state.
"It is indeed an honour for jaipur to get this award, jaipur is already known on the international tourism map but its still a valuable addition to the city," said Sanjay Kaushik of Rajputana Holiday Makers
"Jaipur is my most favourite city in India, the culture and food is out of this world if I can come again I will come back to Jaipur," an Argentinian tourist at Jaipur's iconic hawa mahal area of jaipur told NDTV.
Other cities who made the cut are Mexico's San Miguel de allende, Chiang Mai, Tokyo and Bangkok.
While Jaipur came 5th it outpaced another popular historic city which is Italy's Florence that came 11th in the list of world's favourite destinations.

Climbers aim for Mt Samgyal, Mt Dawa & Mt Meru's untouched path
Pune: A team of mountaineers from the city is preparing for two daring expeditions in the Himalayas in August—one to the twin peaks of Mount Samgyal (5,814 m) and Mount Dawa (5,900 m) in Ladakh's Nubra Valley, and the other to Mount Meru (6,310 m), one of India's most technically challenging peaks located in the Gangotri Glacier region. Led by Everest summiteer Krishna Dhokale, the Mount Samgyal and Mount Dawa expedition comprises a group of young climbers who will climb without Sherpa assistance beyond base camp. The team will carry out all logistical responsibilities, including ferrying loads, fixing routes, and making summit decisions independently. Supported by veteran Everest climbers Ganesh More and Ashish Mane, this expedition is designed to develop leadership, endurance, and alpine self-sufficiency among India's new generation of mountaineers. Simultaneously, a separate group of experienced climbers will attempt an unprecedented ascent of Mount Meru via the East Ridge, a route that has never been successfully climbed. The ceremonial flags were presented to the teams by Sheetal Teli-Ugale, Commissioner, Maharashtra Sports and Youth Services Department. The Mount Samgyal and Mount Dawa expedition will be led by Everest summiteer Mr Krishna Dhokale, with guidance and support from experienced climbers Ganesh More and Ashish Mane, also Everest summiteers from Giripremi. Simultaneously, Umesh Zirpe of Giripremi will lead the expedition to Mount Meru in the Gangotri Glacier region. This attempt will be made via the extremely challenging East Ridge, a route that has never been climbed before. Zirpe said, "Mount Meru, located in the Garhwal Himalayas, is considered one of the most sacred and technically difficult peaks in India, frequently mentioned in ancient Indian scriptures. The East Ridge ascent demands extreme high-altitude rock climbing, negotiating falling rocks, vertical cliffs, deep gorges, and a treacherous approach to base camp. The Indian Army has also taken special note of this challenging endeavour. "

New Zealand kayakers steal the show at 11th edition of Malabar River Festival finale
Two New Zealanders grabbed the titles of 'Rapid Raja' and 'Rapid Rani' at the 11th edition of the Malabar River Festival, which concluded at Elanthukkadavu near Pulloorampara on Sunday (July 27, 2025). Ryan O'Conner and Rata Lowell-Smith recorded the best times in their respective categories in the Downriver Race, the final event of the festival, which was shifted to Pulikkayam due to high water levels in the Iruvazhinjipuzha at Pulloorampara, where it was originally scheduled to be held. Kilian Ivelic of Chile and Arjun Singh Rawat of Uttarakhand secured the second and third positions in the men's category, while Millie Chamberlain and Dayla Ward, both from New Zealand, finished second and third in the women's category. The top three finishers in both categories were awarded prize money of ₹1.2 lakh, ₹60,000, and ₹30,000, respectively. Among the Indian kayakers, Arjun Singh Rawat secured the top position, followed by Amar Singh Ankit and Kuldeep Singh in second and third place, respectively. Meanwhile, Akshay Ashok, Adam Mathew Sibi, Nikhil Das, Sudhakar Jena, Ryan Varghese, Dona Marcella, and E. Swaliha were selected as the best kayakers from Kerala and awarded ₹10,000 each. Anak, Adam Mathew Sibi, and Karishma Diwan received special awards for being the best kayakers in the under-18 category. Minister for Tourism P.A. PM's visit set to boost tourism in Tiruchi region
The visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Brahadisvara Ttemple at Gandgaikonda Cholapuram near Jayankondam, a UNESCO world Heritage monument maintained by the Archaeology Society of India, is set to boost tourism. Ever since the temple was declared as a world heritage monument in 2004, the number of visitors has been on the rise. Foreign tourists evince greater interest in understanding the grandeur and excellence of Chola architecture and sculpture that the temple features. The sprawling lush green lawns on the temple premises teems with children especially on weekends. According to tourism industry sources, Gangaikonda Cholapuram has emerged as one of the top searched items online since the announcement was made on Prime Minister's visit to Brahadisvar Temple about two weeks ago. Besides a number of YouTube channels in Tamil, Hindi, English and others, the event was broadcast live on many news channels across the country, thereby garnering enormous interest among the people to know Rajendra Chola I and the temple built by him. Tourism officials say the temple ranks among the top three places of archaeological significance in Tamil Nadu. The other two are the Brahadisvarar Temple in Thanjavur and the Airavatesvara temple of Darasuram. They are of the view that the tourist footfall to Gangaikonda Cholapuram will certainly witness a steep increase in the immediate future thanks to the immense popularity gained after the visit of Mr. Modi. On average, 9,000 to 10,000 tourists visit Gangaikonda cholapuram per month. As per a recent official data, 9,107 tourists visited Brahadeeswarar Temple in Gangaikonda Cholapuram in May. The footfall includes 342 foreigners. A total of 6,626 tourists visited in June. 'We expect an exponential increase in tourists, particularly domestic, arrival to Gangaikonda cholapuram. We can see this upward trend in August month itself. The tourist footfall in neighbouring Thanjavur and Tiruchi districts will increase correspondingly,' says A. Sankar, Tourism Officer, Ariyalur district.
