PETALING JAYA: The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) has urged the public to refrain from making speculative or defamatory statements following the High Court's decision to acquit former research assistant Yusoff Rawther of drug trafficking and weapons-related charges. The AGC said it respected the court's decision and acknowledged the reasons given by the judge, but stressed that the case had garnered public attention.

The AGC said the prosecution was based on a thorough review of evidence and in accordance with legal principles, free from any external influence. 'Throughout the proceedings, the AGC acted within the bounds of prosecutorial independence and legal processes,' it said. The AGC added that it was studying the judgment in detail and would consider all available options before deciding on further action. Car destroyed in fire at Kampung Kapa

The Tuaran Fire and Rescue Station received the call at 4.09pm and arrived at the scene, located 25km away, at 4.35pm. The nine-member team led by PBK II Easter Hassan brought the blaze under control by 4.40pm using a single hose reel from their fire engine. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident, which also involved the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). Russian strikes kill two in Ukraine, hit military office
KYIV: Russian attacks on the eastern Ukrainian city of Poltava killed two people, wounded nearly a dozen and also struck a military recruitment centre, officials said Thursday. The Ukrainian army reported there were 'dead and wounded' at the recruitment office. Moscow has stepped up its drone and missile bombardments on Ukraine as peace talks stall and concerns grow over further US military support for Kyiv.
