Dricus du Plessis (23-2) joined the UFC in October 2020 as a 26-year-old with a 14-2 record. Before he joined the UFC, Du Plessis had won titles with KSW and EFC. He made his debut against Markus Perez on the main card of a UFC Fight Night event in Abu Dhabi. Du Plessis knocked out Perez in the first round. He followed that win with a July 2021 'Performance of the Night' KO win of Trevin Giles.
Those two wins earned him a shot against the ranked veteran Brad Tavares. Du Plessis won that scrap via decision. The victory put him in the top 15 of the division. A December 2022 submission win over Darren Till moved Du Plessis to No. 10 in the division. A TKO win over the No. 5 ranked Derek Brunson followed.
Du Plessis, who was working his way up the rankings, faced a tough test in his next outing when he met the No. 2 ranked Robert Whittaker at UFC 290. Du Plessis continued his rise, knocking out the former UFC champion in the UFC middleweight title eliminator and earning another 'Performance of the Night' bonus.
More important than the bonus was the title shot Du Plessis received for that win. He faced then-champion Sean Strickland in January, taking the title from Strickland in a 'Fight of the Night' bonus-winning scrap.
In his first title defense Du Plessis picked up an August 2024 submission win over former UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya.
Du Plessis most recently faced Strickland in a rematch at UFC 312 in early February of this year. Du Plessis won that contest via unanimous decision.
I wrote of the champ after that fight, "Dricus du Plessis looked much more controlled and less reckless at UFC 312 than in many of his previous battles. He mixed up his striking techniques and targets against Sean Strickland, landed the more powerful blows, and didn't put himself in too many awkward positions.
"Du Plessis did a much better job in his UFC 312 rematch against Strickland in shutting down his foe's offense. In the first fight, Strickland landed 173 of 408 significant strikes. While in the rematch, Strickland was held to 128 landed strikes on 263 attempts. Meanwhile, Du Plessis increased his landed strikes and landing percentage from the first fight to the second. In the first battle, Du Plessis landed 137 of 354 attempts for a landing rate of 38 percent. At UFC 312, the champ landed 147 of 314 attempts for a striking rate of 46 percent.
'Du Plessis has defended the UFC middleweight crown twice while going 9-0 in the UFC. Despite his winning ways, the champ remains a bit of an enigma because his style shouldn't work — but it does.'

Chimaev (14-0) is the No. 3 fighter in the official UFC middleweight rankings. The 30-year-old made his UFC debut in July 2020 with a second-round submission win over John Phillips. He followed that victory with a first-round TKO over Rhys McKee 10 days later, breaking the UFC record for the quickest turnaround between UFC wins in the modern era. Then, in September, Chimaev knocked out Gerald Meerschaert.
Things slowed down for Chimaev after that. He was booked to face Leon Edwards in December 2020, but that matchup never came to be despite multiple attempts to make the fight happen. The reason behind the numerous cancellations of Edwards vs. Chimaev was COVID-19.
When Chimaev finally returned to the Octagon in October 2021, he made short work of Li Jingliang, scoring a submission at 3:16 of Round 1.
In his next bout, Chimaev went the distance for the first time in his career, picking up a victory over Gilbert Burns. He followed that with a submission over Kevin Holland.
A break of more than a year followed that victory. Chimaev's next outing was an October 2023 matchup against Kamaru Usman, a fight that Chimaev won via decision.
A year after that, Chimaev made short work of Robert Whittaker, defeating the ex-UFC middleweight champ via submission (face crank) in the first round of their UFC 308 scrap.
We will have more on Du Plessis vs. Chimaev and the UFC 319 fight card as fight night approaches.

Blue Jays Third Baseman Turns Heads With Message Before Yankees Game

Blue Jays Third Baseman Turns Heads With Message Before Yankees Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Blue Jays encapsulated the unpredictability of baseball in their three-game series against the Boston Red Sox over the weekend. They won Friday's game 9-0 before losing 15-1 on Saturday and winning 5-3 on Sunday. Advertisement However, what's most important is that they won the series and stayed three games behind the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East. Toronto will host the Yankees for four games starting on Monday night, and will take their spot if they sweep them. Blue Jays third baseman/outfielder Addison Barger sounded off about the upcoming matchup on Sunday, via Keegan Matheson. Toronto Blue Jays infielder Addison Barger (47)© Jonathan Dyer-Imagn Images 'I think I stay level," he said when asked about battling them for the division crown. "I mean… I don't even know if I knew we were playing the Yankees, but now I do.' Barger is slashing .260/.321/.485 with nine homers and 26 RBI over 59 games this season. Toronto fans on social media are enjoying the 25-year-old's response. Advertisement "I love his cool head, that's exactly the attitude that we need," one person said. "No fear going into a huge series." "Love the attitude on that beast," another said. "Cool as a cucumber," another said. "Love this kid man," another said. "Too ripped and handsome to be thinking too much," another said. "Hope they don't trade him," another pleaded. Right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer (0-0, 5.63 ERA) will start on Monday for the Blue Jays against New York Yankees southpaw Carlos Rodon (9-5, 2.92 ERA). This will be Scherzer's third start of the year after rehabbing a thumb injury. Bulls' Coby White posts cryptic IG Story amid trade rumors

The post Bulls' Coby White posts cryptic IG Story amid trade rumors appeared first on ClutchPoints. Coby White's future with the Chicago Bulls might be in question this offseason. White has risen up the ranks as one of the league's most promising talents. Since the team selected him with the seventh pick of the 2019 NBA Draft, the young guard has made a name for himself as he became the clear-cut first option of the Bulls. Advertisement However, his place with the team seems to be up in the air. He uploaded a story post on his Instagram page on Sunday, showing a photo of him interacting with Bulls fans after a game. He included text on the image, showing his humility as the offseason closes in. 'Thanking Him for everything till infinity,' White said. What's next for Coby White, Bulls Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images Coby White is preparing for the worst this offseason, even if he showed he deserves to remain with the Bulls. This past season saw White average 20.4 points, 4.5 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game after 74 appearances. He shot 45.3% from the field, including 37% from beyond the arc, and 90.2% from the free-throw line. Advertisement White has been in his element sinc the Bulls made the decision to break up their playoff core of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso, and Lonzo Ball. While Nikola Vucevic remains on the team, his future is also up in the air as Chicago could fully commit to a rebuild. Despite the many changes to the roster, White has been reslient. He's gained chemistry with Vucevic, Josh Giddey, Ayo Dosunmu, and Patrick Williams among others as the Bulls continue to be in the playoff picture. However, Chicago hasn't been able to return to the playoffs after their cameo in 2022. They've fallen short in the play-in tournament for the last three editions. This past season saw them finish with a 39-43 record, losing to the Miami Heat during the 9-10 matchup. Related: NBA rumors: Could Bulls, Clippers be Celtics options for Anfernee Simons trade? SA's Aldrich Potgieter claims maiden PGA Tour title after dramatic playoff success

South African Aldrich Potgieter sank a birdie putt from just inside 18 feet on the fifth playoff hole to win the Rocket Classic for his first PGA Tour title. The 20-year-old grabbed the victory in just his 20th PGA start, beating American Max Greyserman in the hour-long playoff drama after American Chris Kirk had been eliminated on the second extra hole. The playoff had returned to the par-three 15th at Detroit Golf Club for the second time in the playoff when Potgieter, who had missed winning putts on the two prior extra holes, sank the winning putt after Greyserman missed a 34-foot birdie putt. 'Finally got one to the hole and saw the ball roll end over end and just knew it was going to go in,' Potgieter said. 'I'm just happy to walk away as a winner.' FOR THE WIN! Aldrich Potgieter gets it done on the FIFTH playoff hole @RocketClassic. — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) June 29, 2025 Greyserman and Kirk each shot 67 and 54-hole leader Potgieter fired a 69 to finish deadlocked after 72 holes on 22-under 266. Potgieter made two bogeys in the first five holes but battled back with birdies on three of the last six holes and a clutch five-foot par putt at 18 to make the playoff. 'It was definitely a tough day,' Potgieter said. 'The start didn't go my way. I struggled to make putts, left a lot short.' All three birdied the first playoff hole, the par-four 18th, and at the first extra playing of the 15th, all three missed their birdie putts but Kirk missed his par effort from just inside four feet to drop out. 'Just really disappointed right now,' six-time PGA winner Kirk said. 'I'm really happy with how I played. Just misread that last putt.' Potgieter and Greyserman both parred the par-four 16th and birdied the par-five 14th to set up the close, which made Potgieter the youngest South African to win on the PGA Tour. The youngest South African PGA TOUR winner 🏆 20-year-old Aldrich Potgieter is a champion @RocketClassic! — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) June 29, 2025 'Big thanks to my family and friends, coaches and everyone who has been involved to get me to this point,' Potgieter said, noting his family's sacrifice for his career. 'We had to give up a lot, moving to Australia, moving back. Emigrating is definitely not the easiest thing. Coming alone at the start of my career to the States and giving it a grind - having my dad here has helped so much.' Win No. 1 🏆 — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) June 29, 2025 Greyserman, twice a PGA runner-up last year, will have to wait longer for a breakthrough triumph. 'Unfortunately I didn't get the job done,' he said. 'I thought I hit a lot of good shots down the stretch. Very pleased with how I handled myself down the stretch. 'Putts just didn't drop but I hit a lot of good putts. This one is going to sting for a little bit but I'll have to get back to work.' Potgieter's best prior PGA finish was a Mexico Open playoff loss to American Brian Campbell in February. Americans Michael Thorbjornsen and Jake Knapp shared fourth on 267.
