Deepika Padukone Gets Support In Spirit Row, Anurag Basu Says 'I Also Don't Like Long Shifts'
Director Anurag Basu backed Deepika Padukone and said that his actors never complain about long hours.
The debate around work-life balance in Bollywood is heating up, especially after reports emerged that Deepika Padukone was removed from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit due to her requests for an eight-hour workday, profit-sharing, and language flexibility being turned down. Now, director Anurag Basu has backed Deepika's demand for an eight-hour shift.
In a recent chat with Firstpost, Anurag Basu said, 'I also don't like long-hour shifts at work. My actors never complain about long hours or stress at work. So, I absolutely agree with what Deepika Padukone had to say. It's a film; I never give my actors a chance to complain about this."
'I want my actors to be very happy on set and know their character well. I don't give too much information to them before the shoot begins. Let them discover their roles, and this is the method I have been following for ages," Anurag said, explaining his process of filmmaking.
Previously, Deepika's Chhapaak co-star Vikrant Massey also backed her in a chat with the portal. Vikrant addressed whether such a shift in Bollywood's rigorous shooting culture is realistic. 'I aspire to do something like that very soon. Maybe in a couple of years… I want to go out and say, we can collaborate, but I would only work for eight hours," he shared. However, he was quick to add that it must remain a mutual decision: 'But at the same time, it should be a choice. And if my producer cannot accommodate that, because there are also a lot of other things involved when you are making a film…"
'Money plays a very important role, and I will have to reduce my fees as I will be working for eight hours instead of twelve," he also said. 'If I cannot give my producer twelve hours a day, I cannot go out there and not reduce my fee. I ought to reduce my fee. It's a give-and-take, right?" In a show of solidarity, Vikrant also added, 'And as a young mother, I think Deepika deserves it."
Meanwhile, after her exit from Prabhas starrer Spirit, Deepika Padukone, will next be seen in Atlee's pan-India action project, AA22×A6, opposite Allu Arjun. Reportedly, Will Smith will play the antagonist in the film. However, there is no confirmation on this yet.

Gene Hackman's $80M Estate Faces Legal Disputes Over Unpaid Debts And Family Feud

Hackman, who was 95, had reportedly been suffering from Alzheimer's disease and heart problems. Hackman's three adult children, Christopher Allen Hackman, Elizabeth Jean Hackman, and Leslie Anne Hackman, were not named in the will. The children later issued a statement expressing their grief, though it's known that their relationship with their father had been distant for years. Reports suggest that Gene Hackman had designated his wife, Betsy Arakawa, to take control of his trust after his death. In the event of her death, Michael G. Sutin was meant to oversee it. However, Sutin passed away in 2019, and no updates were made to the trust following his death. At present, it remains unclear whether Hackman's three children from his first marriage — Christopher Allen, Leslie Anne and Elizabeth Jean — were included in his will.
