2025 WNBA All-Star draft live updates: Will Caitlin Clark select Fever teammates?

Clark was named a 2025 WNBA All-Star captain on June 29 after receiving the most fan votes, giving her the unique opportunity to create her own roster through the WNBA All-Star Game draft, which airs Tuesday (7 p.m. ET, ESPN). Fever teammates Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell are both available after they picked up their third All-Star nods as a starter and reserve, respectively.
2025 WNBA ALL-STAR STARTERS, RESERVES: Reese, Plum join roster as snubs abound
Clark's All-Star team picks could be extra meaningful considering the 2025 WNBA All-Star game will be held at the Fever's Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on July 19. The selection of Clark, Boston and Mitchell marks the second consecutive year the Fever have a trio of players at the All-Star game. The Fever is tied with the Seattle Storm for the most representatives at this year's All-Star game.
Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier, who was also an All-Star captain after picking up the second-most fan votes, is in a similar position. Collier's teammate Courtney Williams will be available to draft after picking up her second All-Star selection as a reserve.

WNBA All-Star Game snubs
As is the case with any selective process, there is bound to be a few worthy athletes left off the teams. 2025 is no different. Here are a few of the players that had a worthy All-Star case, but came up just short:
G Kayla McBride, Minnesota Lynx
The Minnesota Lynx boast the best record in the WNBA currently, and McBride has been a huge reason why. The four-time All-Star is shooting over 40% from three-point range for the second season in a row. Yes, her playstyle can lead to some duds if she isn't hitting her shots. After all, she's failed to record double-digit points in any game she doesn't hit a three in. That said, her ability to expand the floor combined with her solid playmaking have made her one of the most feared players in the league for years. When she gets hot, she can turn a game on its head.
F Alanna Smith, Minnesota Lynx
You don't get the best record in the WNBA without having a myriad of talent, and Alanna Smith is living proof. Though she could be considered the fourth scoring option on her own team, that doesn't take away from her efficiency on the floor, shooting 48.6% from the field, all while providing solid glass work as well.

Opinion: Caitlin Clark should pick Angel Reese for her WNBA All-Star team
Caitlin Clark has the chance to quiet the toxic behavior of the worst of her fans and send an emphatic message by drafting Angel Reese.

The Chicago Sky forward has been cast as the villain to Clark's hero dating back to their junior years in college, when Reese waved her ring finger at Clark after LSU beat Iowa in the NCAA championship game. Whether Reese was taunting or mimicking Clark's own 'You can't see me' diss didn't matter. A rivalry was born.
But there's an ugly undertone to Clark and Reese's rivalry that's an issue for everyone in the WNBA. Read Nancy Armour's full column here.

Yankees designate 2-time batting champion DJ LeMahieu for assignment with about $22M left on deal
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Yankees have designated two-time batting champion DJ LeMahieu for assignment, one day after manager Aaron Boone had said the aging infielder with a diminished defensive range would primarily be used off the bench. The Yankees, who owe LeMahieu about $22 million on the remainder of a six-year deal that ran through the 2026 season, made the announcement before Wednesday night's game against the Seattle Mariners. LeMahieu, who turns 37 on Sunday and has dealt with a variety of toe, foot and hip injuries, was hitting .266 with two homers, 12 RBIs and a .674 OPS this season. He won his first batting title in 2016 with Colorado and his second with New York in 2020, when he hit .364 with 10 homers and 27 RBIs in 50 games during the pandemic-shortened season. The decision to designate him for assignment comes after Boone announced that All-Star infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. would move back to second base , where LeMahieu had made all 35 of his starts this season. Boone acknowledged that Chisholm, who has been hampered by a sore shoulder, had been struggling with making the longer throws from third base. ___ AP MLB:

Zach McKinstry picked as AL All-Star sub as Tigers tie Dodgers for most picks for Midsummer Classic
Associated Press The Detroit Tigers have the best record in the majors. Now they are tied for having the most All-Stars, too. Zach McKinstry was picked Wednesday to replace Astros shortstop Jeremy Pena, who has been dealing with a rib injury. The infielder-outfielder will join Detroit second baseman Gleyber Torres and outfielders Javier Baez and Riley Greene — all AL starters — and staff ace Tarik Skubal, who also is among the candidates to start the All-Star Game on Tuesday night in Atlanta. Meanwhile, Houston third baseman Isaac Paredes was picked Wednesday to replace the Guardians' Jose Ramirez, who had been the starting third baseman. That gives the Astros four All-Stars in Peña and pitchers Hunter Brown and Josh Hader. The Guardians said Ramírez wanted 'to focus on recovery and preparation for the second half of the season.' The five All-Stars for Detroit is tied for the most with the World Series champion Dodgers, who have DH Shohei Ohtani, catcher Will Smith and first baseman Freddie Freeman starting for the NL along with pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Yamamoto is scheduled to start Sunday for Los Angeles, so Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott has been picked to replace him. McKinstry and Paredes make four total replacements and 69 players between the two All-Star teams. The other substitution was Rays third baseman Junior Caminero for Boston's Alex Bregman, who has been dealing with a strained right quadriceps. The Tigers have been one of the surprise stories of the first half of the season. After going 86-76 and tying for second in the AL Central last season, 6 1/2 games behind the division-winning Guardians, they were off to a 59-34 start heading into Wednesday night's series finale against Tampa Bay — three games ahead of the Dodgers for the best record in the majors. The versatile McKinstry has been a big reason why. Along with playing every infield position besides catcher, and both corner outfield spots, McKinstry entered Wednesday hitting .283 with seven homers and 27 RBIs. The 30-year-old needs just three more homers and nine RBIs to set career highs. Peña, who is hitting a career-best .322 with 11 homers and 40 RBIs in 82 games for the Astros, has been out since June 28 with a fractured rib. He had hoped to return by the All-Star break, but has not been cleared to resume baseball activity. Paredes, his teammate, is headed to his second straight All-Star Game in his first season in Houston. He's hitting a career-best .255 with 19 homers and 49 RBIs for the Astros, who have a comfortable lead over Seattle in the NL West. Ramírez was hit by a pitch in a game against Toronto on June 26 and has struggled at the plate ever since. But the seven-time All-Star was still hitting .299 with 16 homers, 44 RBIs and 24 stolen bases through 87 games for the Guardians. ___ AP MLB: recommended Item 1 of 2
