Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake won't have an upgrade or cross save on Switch 2, making the JRPG's game-key card your only physical option

Square Enix has confirmed that there won't be an option to upgrade Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake on Nintendo Switch to a Switch 2 edition. Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake was recently confirmed to be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 alongside the announcement of its October release date alongside the PC, Xbox, PS5, and Switch, which Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake released on last year. While the remake of Dragon Quest 3 was only 7.7GB, Square Enix confirmed that the 1 & 2 remake will be on a game-key card, but there's even worse news for Switch 2 players who want a physical copy. In a FAQ on the Dragon Quest website Square Enix confirms that the Switch 2 and Switch versions of Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake won't be cross-compatible. If you wanted to buy a physical Switch copy of the game to play on your Switch 2, you can play it, but "it will perform as it would on a Nintendo Switch," so if you wanted to play it with the Switch 2 performance improvements you're out of luck. Square says that there won't be an upgrade path available for Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake from Switch to Switch 2, meaning you'll need to buy the Switch 2 version if you want to play that version. Not only that, but there won't be cross-save between both versions either. This, mixed with the fact there's no actual physical release of Dragon Quest 1 & 2 on Switch 2, instead being a game-key card, makes it a complete bummer for Switch 2 owners. Our GamesRadar+ preview of the remake said "these lovingly made refreshes are shaping up to be a wonderfully accessible way to experience a crucial piece of gaming history," so it sounds like a worthy remake, it's just a shame there's no good way to get a Switch 2 version physically. Chrono Trigger and Xenogears writer "actually hated" video games before discovering Dragon Quest: "That concept really stunned me."

Asked about concerns Switch 2 game-key cards could turn off players and third-party publishers, Nintendo president says the controversial cards were introduced since file sizes have gone up

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has acknowledged the backlash towards the Nintendo Switch 2's game-key card system, saying it was introduced because game file sizes are larger. The Nintendo Switch 2 has had a fair amount of controversy surrounding it in the three months since it was properly revealed. While the pricing of games has been the big sticking point, Nintendo's game-key cards have been the subject to criticism, with many pointing out it's bad for game preservation. These cards are effectively a digital download on a card, meaning there is very little data on the cart and you'll need to fully download the game even after popping the cart in your console. Pretty much every third-party title on Switch 2 that has a physical release was through these game key cards (except Cyberpunk 2077, which also happens to be the best-selling third party game on the platform). This was brought up at a recent Nintendo shareholder meeting (via machine translation), as Furukawa was asked about the online reactions to game-key cards, with some finding that buying physical releases without the actual game data on the cartridge is unappealing. The same investor said they are worried that third parties will move away from the Switch 2 if key cards don't sell well due to these complaints. Furukawa responds by explaining the key card system, and says (via machine translation) that this is a new sales method that's been added since the "data capacity" of Switch 2 game software is larger than it was on the original Switch. Granted, there are multiple games currently on Switch 2 with file sizes that go over 59GB (which was the highest on Switch 1 thanks to NBA 2K24). Split Fiction comes in at 69GB, and the recently revealed WWE 2K25 is going to be 73GB on the system, so game-key cards make sense for the latter two considering the Switch 2 cards only go up to 64GB (although WWE is a code in a box anyway). However, 3.2GB Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S and 9.2GB Bravely Default don't exactly have the same excuse. As for the worry of third parties possibly abandoning Switch 2 if game-key cards aren't selling, Furukawa noted that there are various ways for Switch 2 games to be sold, and that the company wants to discuss "various points" with publishers, ultimately striving for them to support the Switch 2 platform. It's rumored (due to an apparent Arc System Works leak) that Nintendo is only offering expensive 64GB cards or game-key cards to developers, so hopefully that could change if publishers kick up a fuss. Nintendo Switch 2 could revolutionize Zelda technology: Tears of the Kingdom tinkerers confirm lasers are way deadlier now – "We always knew 60 fps would be insane, but I didn't expect it to be this insane."

The Boeing Company (BA)'s A Horse & Its CEO Has Done A Great Job, Says Jim Cramer

We recently published . The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) is one of the stocks Jim Cramer recently discussed. The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) has become somewhat of a regular feature of Cramer's morning show. In this appearance, he had the firm's CEO, Kelly Ortberg, on for an interview. One aspect of The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) that crossed Cramer's attention earlier was Japan ordering planes as part of trade negotiations. The CNBC TV host wondered whether The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) would be able to meet the additional demand and discussed Ortberg's response given during the interview: 'And when I spoke to Kelly earlier, he's was saying, I'm saying, oh come on, these orders, I mean these orders are total, you know it's a [inaudible], then President Trump says, no, the orders are real and we're going to make the planes. Now I know Boeing. But Boeing's been a horse. And I just think that Kelly Ortberg, in such a short period of time, has done a remarkable job. We should salute some of these people. We can't just, bang them!' In his remarks about The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) later during the day on Mad Money, Cramer praised Ortberg and the firm's recent earnings results: 'Now, I felt the same way about Boeing. Now, here's a stock that just hit a 52-week high after giving you almost a double from its low in April. Thank you, Kelly Ortberg. And even though it reported a great quarter with beautiful cash flow, the stock still got hit today. But unlike all the others, just call me a buyer of that one.'
