Tariff relief offered by SKU Distribution Center in Chandler designated as a Foreign Trade Zone
SKU Distribution Center in Chandler offers a different way for companies to work around international tariffs.
Designated as a Foreign Trade Zone, or FTZ, the company has the ability to defer tariffs to help local companies manage cash flow.
The company is gaining widespread interest as businesses work to stabilize operations amid the new rules.
CHANDLER, Ariz. - Among the chaos of tariffs, one Valley business is turning heads.
It's a local distribution center that offers something different than most.
What we know
Customers of this distribution center are from all across the globe and deal with the impacts of tariffs just like everyone else.
However, SKU Distribution Center in Chandler is marked as a Foreign Trade Zone, or FTZ.
"We've gotten [quite] a bit of interest," said James Peacock, founder and CEO of SKU Distribution.
It puts them in a unique position.
It means international goods parked there don't have to pay tariffs until they leave the warehouse and are sold.
What they're saying
"It comes into the zone, you defer all those duties and taxes until those pieces actually leave the zone" Peacock said.
Businesses from all over are taking notice of the federal FTZ sign stamped in the warehouse.
Founder and CEO James Peacock says his industry is turned upside-down following the Trump administration's international tariffs.
While businesses are trying to figure out how to pass along cost increases from the tariffs, it's different at Peacock's warehouse and fulfillment center.
"I mean everyone in the market is freaking out, I don't think that's an understatement," he said.
Big picture view
SKU has become a desirable option for many businesses.
"Really the only way to manage that portion of your line item cash flow is to use something like this," he said.
Cash flow could become invaluable as the market learns to try to adjust to these new tariffs, offering savings and supply chain efficiencies for importers.
"It's a way for them to continue their supply chain, and kind of park the stuff in a Foreign Trade Zone so they can defer those taxes, take a deep breath, and wait for the dust to settle until everyone figures out exactly what's going on here and can go from there," Peacock said.

Comcast's fix for streaming service overload is in your cable box
Streaming has become a tangled web of subscriptions, and now Comcast says it can help by putting all your services into one hub. Comcast is launching a new hub on its set-top boxes, called the StreamStore, where you can buy and manage subscriptions for more than 450 streaming apps and channels. The StreamStore lives within Xfinity's Xumo Stream Box and on X1 devices. It's also available on the web, and features a collection of more than 200,000 movies and TV shows to rent or purchase. Xfinity will let you add or drop channels through the store, while tacking on new subscriptions to your monthly internet or TV bill, further positioning the company as a sort of streaming broker. Other cable / telecom companies like Verizon have tried to step in as a digital subscription service middleman, though Comcast is taking things a step further by putting this hub on your TV. But is streaming really messy enough that you need Comcast to manage it? Some services included in the StreamStore include Netflix, Peacock, Disney Plus, Paramount Plus, Hulu, Apple TV Plus, HBO Max, and over 100 'niche' streaming subscriptions, according to LightReading. Xfinity already offers its own StreamSaver bundle, which includes a subscription to Apple TV Plus, Netflix with ads, and Peacock's ad-supported plan for $15 per month. The bundle is, of course, available through the StreamStore, and Xfinity says it plans on bringing new streaming bundles, apps, and 'enhanced subscription management and activation capabilities' to the hub in the future. NBC could resurrect a sports cable channel in sports media twist
Executives at NBCUniversal are eying a new sports cable network, roughly four years after they shuttered the previous one the company operated. The unnamed cable channel would carry sports that will also stream on the company's service, Peacock, with the network potentially going live as early as the fall, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday. No decision has been made, and talks are in the early stage, according to the report, but the network would be available on cable and satellite services as part of specialty packages. NBC could bring back a sports cable network. Getty Images The channel would complement the Peacock streaming platform and would give the company a safety net of sorts if its subscriber base doesn't grow as quickly as the network anticipates. The news comes months before NBC officially joins as a broadcast partner for the NBA, which cost NBCU roughly $2.5 billion annually for the rights to carry the league package. NBA games this season will air on both linear NBC and on Peacock. The Wall Street Journal report also indicated that the potential sports network would be made available through specific cable packages, rather than the broader plan that includes other sports networks such as ESPN and Fox Sports 1. Previously, NBC operated NBC Sports Network — also known as NBCSN — before it shut down in 2021 due to low ratings and its inability to compete with ESPN. NBCSN used to cover the NHL before the channel was shuttered in 2021. NHLI via Getty Images NBCU has aired 'Sunday Night Football' simulcasts on Peacock, along with an exclusive NFL game that is carried only on the streaming service. Other sports offerings on the streamer include golf, college football, the Olympics and Premier League soccer before the NBA enters the fray in the fall. Peacock's subscription cost went up by $3 to $10.99 a month for its ad-supported tier and to $16.99 for its tier with no commercials.
