The Guardian2 days ago
The Guardian is launching a year-long reporting series, Against The Tide, that will put young people at the forefront. For the past six months we have been travelling to port towns and seaside resorts around England to discover how younger people feel about the places they live and what changes would enable them to build the futures they want. We will continue our reporting over the next 12 months.
Are you aged between 18-25 and live in a coastal town around England? What's it like living there? What are the bonuses and also the challenges? How do seasons affect your experience? If you're a parent or work with young people, please get in touch.
And if you live in a coastal area around other parts of the UK, we'd like to hear from you too.

Lila Moss stuns in pink dress as she poses with new Barbie doll which shares same medical condition

MODEL Lila Moss is a Barbie girl, having inspired the first Type 1 diabetes doll. Kate Moss 's daughter, who was diagnosed with the condition as a child, said she hoped the creation would help children feel proud of who they were. 6 6 Like Lila, her doll has a glucose monitor arm patch, an insulin pump on her leg and a bag for emergency snacks. Lila, 22, said: 'Receiving messages from people who see my patches and feel represented by me means everything to me. 'To see a Barbie that looks like me — even wearing the patches, is surreal and special.' Lila has long been an advocate for sufferers of the disease, famously strutting down the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week in 2021 with her insulin pump on show next to her supermodel Mum. Barbie maker Mattel teamed up with diabetes charity Breakthrough T1D to launch the doll as part of their new diversity-focused Barbie Fashionistas line, which includes Barbies representing a kaleidoscope of body types and disabilities. Krista Berger, Senior Vice President of Barbie and Global Head of Dolls at Mattel, stressed the importance of representation: 'It's vital that children see themselves in the dolls they love.' Over 30,000 children in the UK live with Type 1 diabetes — a lifelong autoimmune condition where the pancreas produces little or no insulin, requiring daily injections or use of insulin pumps to prevent serious health complications. Lila's personal Barbie reflects her personal style, dressed in a black halterneck mini dress, chunky black boots, delicate gold jewellery, and tousled blonde hair — capturing the essence of her street-chic fashion. "Cut to a midaxi length, it has been made from a lightweight, cotton-rich fabric, perfect for warmer days." Fashion fans are also raving about the White Cutwork Midaxi Strappy Dress which is priced at £32. The dress comes in a wide range of sizes, from 6 to 20, meaning that it will feel comfortable on all body types. Plus it also comes in a stunning buttermilk yellow, perfect for summer days at the beach. Is supermarket fashion the new high street? DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in: The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, as you head in to do your weekly food shop you can also pick up a selection of purse-friendly, stylish pieces for all the family. Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent increase in the quarter thanks to a 'strong growth in clothing' and M&S has earnt the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high clothing line George has made £1.5 million for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury's clothes sold at full price rather than discounted and Nutmeg at Morrisons sales are also up 2 per cent in the past what is it about supermarket fashion that is becoming so successful?Apart from the clothing actually being affordable, it's good quality too - with many being part of schemes such as the Better Cotton Initiative.A lot of the time they keep to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year. Plus because they buy so much stock they can turn around pieces quickly and buy for cheaper because of the volumes.
