Kenya's Oscar Entry ‘Nawi: Dear Future Me' Scores North America Deal Following Impact Campaign In Africa
The Kenyan-German drama, inspired by true events, follows a 13-year-old girl in rural Kenya whose father trades her into marriage in exchange for livestock. On her wedding night, she escapes, walking alone to Nairobi to pursue an education. When she learns that her infant sister is being forced to take her place, Nawi returns to confront her family.

The movie, which recently screened at the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York, is co-directed by Toby and Kevin Schmutzler, Apuu Mourine, and Vallentine Chelluget, with a script by Kevin and Toby Schmutzler and based on a story by Milcah Cherotich.
The lead role is portrayed by Michelle Lemuya Ikeny in her feature debut.
The film has earned accolades including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Newcomer, the Special Jury Award at Beijing's BJIFF (Tiantan Awards), and dual wins at Raindance.
The deal was negotiated directly between Sabbour and the filmmakers at FilmCrew Media: Kevin and Toby Schmutzler and producer Lydia Wrensch. New Mountain is currently targeting a February 2026 theatrical release across the U.S. and Canada. Atlas International handles international sales.
In Kenya, producers say the film has raised $300,000 through its impact campaign, which includes the opening of a first all-girls boarding school. A mobile desert cinema tour is launching this summer to bring the film to remote villages. The project has garnered support from organisations including UNICEF, Girls Not Brides, and Girls First Fund.
'Nawi is exactly the kind of story we feel compelled to share—brave, beautifully made, and impossible to ignore,' said Khaled Sabbour, founder and CEO of New Mountain Films. 'It's not only been recognized by the global film community, but has ignited real-world change. We're honoured to bring it to North American audiences.'

Tyla Releases New Single ‘Is It'
Tyla Grammy-winning singer Tyla is ready to party after the release of her self-titled debut album last year. The South African songstress has been teasing her next project in recent months and giving fans a peek at her musical direction with the single 'Bliss' in May. Now, just as the summer is heating up and fans are eager to get moving, the 'Water' singer is helping them cool off with the new single 'Is It.' Though it might feel like a quick turnaround from her Tyla album last April, the 'Push 2 Start" singer explained to Billboard that a lot has happened since she made her stateside breakthrough in 2023. 'I've changed a lot in a short amount of time because I was kind of forced to with how fast I had to adapt to everything,' she said. 'I don't think it's going to be the same energy [as Tyla]It's all in service of continuing to elevate her career as an up-and-coming star. 'I really want to be the best artist that I can be," she told Nylon. "When you have a lot of pressure, it makes you feel like you need to live up to what people expect. A year from now, I want to be making whatever I want to make, doing whatever I want to do — regardless of the pressures. That's where I want to see myself next year.'

‘I'm serving her': Londie London pursues legal action against Minnie Ntuli for RHOD assault
Unseen Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD) reunion footage showed Minnie Ntuli assaulting Londie London during what was meant to be a clearing-the-air conversation. RHOD co-stars were left shocked, with Jojo Robinson calling the incident 'horrific to watch'. London said she is taking legal action against Ntuli, saying, 'She deserves to spend at least two weeks in jail'. Sultry reality star Londie London, real name Londiwe Zulu, is pursuing legal action against Real Housewives of Durban newcomer Minnie Ntuli after unseen footage showed her (Ntuli) assaulting the mother of two during part two of the season five reunion. In the physical altercation, the pair engaged in a one-on-one conversation, which London said she thought would clear the air about their on-screen beef. However, the conversation turned for the worse when Ntuli began to get visibly annoyed, eventually aggressively prodding London's forehead. Throughout the show's fifth season, the pair butted heads in what appeared to be one-sided beef from Ntuli aimed at London. It was initially unclear where the beef originated, but as the fifth season of the Real Housewives of Durban wrapped up, London recalled that it stemmed from a remark she made about a dress Ntuli wore when she joined the show. From there, the relationship between the two cast members went downhill.
