Tipra Motha activists attack BJP workers while latter were listening to PM Modi's ‘Mann ki Baat' program; 9 injured
A group of Tipra Motha workers attacked supporters of ally BJP at Asharambari in Khowai district of Tripura on Sunday, injuring nine saffron party workers and damaging scores of vehicles. Asked about the incident, an officer at the state police headquarters in Agartala said, 'As per our latest reports, nine people were injured. A case will be lodged at the local police station and legal action will be taken.' Reacting to the attack, BJP tribal leader Bipin Debbarma said, 'Our supporters and leaders were listening to PM Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' program, when they were attacked by hooligans from the Tipra Motha party who were armed with machetes, axes, and country-made guns. They intended to murder BJP supporters. At least 10 to 15 motorcycles were damaged in the incident, and two cars sustained heavy damage.' The tribal leader said a detailed report of the incident has been sent to Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and state BJP chief Rajib Bhattacharya, and they have assured to bring the culprits to book and provide necessary treatment to the injured. Sunit Sarkar, Media In-Charge, BJP Tripura unit, told media persons that Tipra Motha minister Animesh Debbarma was looking into the matter. Animesh Debbarma is the local Asharambari MLA. Meanwhile, Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma went 'Live' on Facebook and criticised his own party workers for the attack. 'I don't want political violence in Tripura. If tribals keep fighting each other in the name of flags, one day flags will be all that's left, land will be lost. You can do politics two months before the elections. Till then, keep thansa (unity) as tribals… Politics of violence will not give us anything,' Pradyot Kishore said. Pradyot Kishore then said that Naga people are united across party lines, but tribals in Tripura are not united. He also alleged that former CPM leaders are joining the BJP and the Tipra Motha and are trying to foment a crisis, and urged both parties to stay wary of such political elements. Speaking to he later said, 'I don't want our party's name to be dragged into such conflicts. If anything, Tipra Motha and the BJP should come together and fight against illegal immigration from Bangladesh and Myanmar.'

CPM accuses Union govt of neglecting working class, favouring corporates
Mysuru: CPM state executive secretary U Basavaraj on Sunday accused the Union govt of adopting pro-corporate friendly policies, neglecting the interests of farmers, labourers, and other working-class people in the nation. The Union govt is giving a red carpet welcome to corporate houses, while the common people were affected by inflation and the rise in prices of essential commodities, he stated. He was addressing a rally organised by the district unit of CPM at Gandhi Square in the city. He said that even though the Union govt mobilised over Rs 50 lakh crore revenue every year from the states, with Karnataka contributing Rs 4 lakh crore in the form of tax, the Union govt has failed to protect the interest of the working class to curb inflation. He accused the Union govt of giving a red carpet welcome to corporate houses to loot the forest and mining resources of the nation when the common people were affected by inflation. Basavaraj also stated that even though the Union govt is distributing free ration to the poor under the public distribution system to over 80 crore people, people are dying from hunger. India ranked 105th in the Global Hunger Index, he stated, adding that still 45%t of the population are unemployed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pune: Unsold Furniture Liquidation 2024 (Prices May Surprise You) Unsold Furniture | Search Ads Learn More Undo The income gap between the rich and poor has increased at an alarming rate every year. Draft voter list prepared as per CPM's orders: Satheesan
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader V D Satheesan alleged that the draft voters' list for local body elections published by state election commission (SEC) was riddled with widespread irregularities. "The list has been prepared as per the directive of local CPM leaders to rig the ensuing elections," he alleged. "Many people who voted last time are missing from the list. Names of people who passed away three or four years ago are still included. Some voters' names have been moved from their actual wards to other places. Votes of family members residing in the same house have been registered in different wards," Satheesan said. "Some voters have been registered in three different wards. There are multiple votes under a single ID card number. Even after completing ward delimitation and publishing voters' list, the ward sketch hasn't been provided. Yet they are asking to add votes within 15 days, which is an unprecedented requirement. How can names be added to the voters' list without knowing the ward boundaries?" he asked. "According to Section 24 of Panchayati Raj Act, voters' list should not be revised between the last date for submitting nominations and election day. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Cash Roadster Undo This means there should be no hindrance in adding names to the voters' list until the last date for submitting election nominations. Then why is it restricted to 15 days?" he asked. "Transferring a vote from one place to another is also a complicated process. When a person's name is newly added to one place, the vote must be removed from the existing location. Both EROs at the two locations need to communicate on this and 15 days are insufficient for all these. Thus, the time to correct errors in the voter list should be extended to at least 30 days," said Satheesan. "How can a free and fair election be conducted using a voter list with such errors? Attempts are being made to prevent rectification of irregularities. SEC is acting according to CPM leadership's wishes," he alleged. "The number of polling booths has also been reduced. SEC is attempting to sabotage the election by ensuring that polling doesn't conclude even by 10pm. If SEC is not ready to reconsider, UDF will address it legally," said Satheesan. "Ward delimitation was conducted in violation of even the high court's directive, favouring CPM's convenience. SEC also supported all these and took decisions without even examining complaints," he alleged.
