What was supposed to be a thrilling crossover showdown between one of the
NFL
's fastest men, Tyreek Hill, and Olympic track champion Noah Lyles has spiraled into online drama and controversy.
Fans were eagerly anticipating the unique clash of speed and athleticism, widely hyped across social media platforms—thanks in part to viral YouTuber IShowSpeed.
However, when Lyles suddenly withdrew from the race, disappointment turned to tension as Tyreek Hill seemingly blamed IShowSpeed for turning the event into a spectacle.
Tyreek Hill fires shot at IShowSpeed after Noah Lyles cancels race
NFL fans and track enthusiasts alike were buzzing over the idea of Hill, often called the fastest player in football, racing against Lyles, a world-class sprinter.
Promoted by social media and fueled by influencer IShowSpeed's viral presence, the event had the makings of a spectacle.
However, when Lyles withdrew, citing unclear reasons, the disappointment was overshadowed by Tyreek Hill's fiery social media post. 'Keep my name out of the clout chasers' mouths,' Hill posted on X. 'I race real athletes, not YouTubers tryna get views.'
The post seemed squarely aimed at IShowSpeed, who had helped stir attention by tagging both athletes in videos, memes, and live commentary.
Taken aback, Speed addressed Hill's jab during a live stream. Visibly emotional, he said: 'I ain't doing this for fame. I love sports, man. I thought it'd be fun for everyone. If I did too much, I'm sorry.'
Speed's fans quickly jumped to his defense, pointing out that his enthusiastic coverage played a big role in generating buzz for the race. Many criticized Hill for taking aim at a content creator who genuinely appeared excited about the matchup.
While influencer-athlete collaborations are more common than ever, this situation shows the tension that can arise when competitive legacy clashes with online entertainment. Hill's message made it clear he values competition over content. As for IShowSpeed, his earnest reaction won him sympathy and raised questions about whether traditional athletes underestimate the role of influencers in modern sports culture.

Travis Kelce may not retire until he fulfills his childhood dream

(Image via Kansas City Chiefs X: Travis Kelce) Travis Kelce wants to fulfill his childhood dream of giving his all to football. And unless and until he feels that his dream is fulfilled, he says he does not plan to retire. On June 30, the Kansas City Chiefs' tight end talks candidly about retirement with the hosts of the Bussin' With The Boys podcast, Will Compton and Taylor Lewan. Kelce says, 'I don't know what I'm gonna feel like in March and in April next year when I make that decision, or I try to figure out what's next for me. But I know that I got one on the contract and I got a hell of a f*cking team and we got a lot of f*cking talent and I'm pumped for it.' Further in the podcast, when the hosts pressed for retirement date, the 3-time Super Bowl Champion said, 'I don't wanna leave anything out there. I wanna give it my all and make sure that I do for the childhood dream in me. You know what I mean? The kid in me is like - I wanna make this sh*t the best thing ever man.' The Kansas City Chiefs' tight end Taylor Swift's NFL boyfriend, Travis Kelce, does not plan to retire till he achieves his childhood dream The question of retirement always looms over the 35-year-old tight end's aura. A podcast with the showrunners of Bussin' With The Boys, Will Compton and Taylor Lewan, was no different. But when it did, Travis Kelce knew exactly how to handle it. For starters, Kelce talked about his past season. Travis Kelce Talks NFL Retirement, Chiefs Super Bowl Loss + Bussin' With The Boys Meets Taylor Swift Could the 2025 NFL season be the last year for the 10-time Pro Bowler, Travis Kelce? Will Compton asked, 'Pouring all that into this season, like setting all the other stuff aside, just focusing on football. Is there a little bit of mortality coming with this being your last year in Kansas City? Like, this could be the last year for Travis Kelce?' Taylor Swift's NFL boyfriend said, 'I mean, it's the last one on the contract. I'm focused on this one, man. I don't know what next year's gonna feel like. Did the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX stop Travis Kelce from retiring? Taylor Lewan asked, 'There were a bunch of rumors swirling around that this could be the last year, this past year. Well, how close were you to hanging it up? Would the Super Bowl have changed that for you?' 'It might have made me think about it a little bit more. I think I just had a sour taste in my mouth immediately, and like, man, this can't be the last game, you know. I still feel like I can do it. And I kind of wanted to give myself that full focus when I kind of looked at the year, review, and how I got ready for the year, and things like that. It's not to say that I was doing it wrong; it's just that when you get older, you start to figure things out differently. Like your body doesn't react to how it used to do things. You have to focus a little bit more on the preparation, and being there, and being ready, and then throughout the week, you've got to have more of a plan to get back to 100 percent. And thinking about all those things, it was like - I don't wanna leave anything out there. I wanna give it my all and make sure that I do for the childhood dream in me. You know what I mean? The kid in me is like - I wanna make this sh*t the best thing ever man.' Sylvanie-Imagn Images Alex Pietrangelo, a building block of the Vegas Golden Knights defense and one of the NHL's most highly regarded blue-liners, is walking away from hockey due to some alarming health issues. Although he hasn't officially retired, the 35-year-old said he does not expect to play again after doctors advised him to give up the sport to concentrate on healing from several debilitating hip conditions. Pietrangelo's absence represents a major turning point for Vegas as they revamp their defense and look to the future. Wimbledon: Third Seed Alexander Zverev Suffers Stunning Exit, Petra Kvitova's Farewell Ends In Defeat

United Kingdom: Alexander Zverev suffered his earliest Grand Slam exit since 2019 as the German third seed was stunned by France's Arthur Rinderknech in the Wimbledon first round on Tuesday. Zverev, a three-time Grand Slam runner-up, slipped to a shock 7-6 (7/3), 6-7 (8/10), 6-3, 6-7 (5/7), 6-4 defeat against the world number 72 in a marathon clash lasting four hours and 40 minutes on Centre Court. The 28-year-old is the highest-ranked seed to fall so far in this year's men's singles at the All England Club. Zverev, who reached the Australian Open final in January, endured his latest Wimbledon flop in a tie that initially started on Monday evening. When play was halted due to Wimbledon's 2200 GMT curfew, the match was level at one-set all. But Rinderknech seized his chance once play resumed in the blazing London heat on Tuesday afternoon. Rinderknech hit 25 aces and although Zverev replied with 31 of his own, it was not enough to stave off an embarrassing defeat. Zverev has failed to make it past the fourth round at Wimbledon in nine visits to the grass-court major. He had reached at least the second round in his previous 20 Grand Slam appearances. Olympic champion out Zheng Qinwen admitted she was not focused enough after the Chinese Olympic champion slumped to a shock first-round Wimbledon defeat against world number 81 Katerina Siniakova on Tuesday. Zheng exited in the opening round for a third straight year, losing 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 to the unheralded Czech in two hours and 25 minutes in searing heat on Court Three. It is the fourth time in her past six Grand Slam appearances that Zheng has failed to get past the third round, a barren run interrupted by quarter-final runs at the 2024 US Open and this year's French Open. "I should do better in my service games. I was leading 5-3 in the first set and my concentration was not there. I gave her the game so easily. It's a pity," Zheng said. "On grass you don't get too many chances to come back. I should have taken my chances better but I'm not going to let this enter my mind. It's just one match I lost at Wimbledon. "I made a lot of mistakes. I made the match complicated. The weather was very hot but I believe I should have been more focused on the court. Maybe I should work more to be focused in the heat." After finishing as Australian Open runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka last year, Zheng won Olympic gold on the Paris clay in August, beating Donna Vekic in the final. The 22-year-old, sixth in the WTA rankings, has fared less well on the grass courts of south-west London. Following her latest Wimbledon flop against Siniakova, the Chinese star has never been past the third round in four visits to the All England Club. Kvitova Knocked Out Petra Kvitova's Wimbledon farewell ended in an emotional defeat as the two-time champion was beaten 6-3, 6-1 by Emma Navarro in the first round on Tuesday. Kvitova returned from maternity leave in February following the birth of her son Petr in 2024, but found it difficult to handle the demands of being a mother on the gruelling tennis circuit. The 35-year-old Czech announced last week that she will bring the curtain down on her career after the US Open in August. Kvitova's decision gave the former world number two, who has won 31 titles in her career, one last opportunity to return to the scene of her Wimbledon triumphs. But American 10th seed Navarro ruined her hopes of a long Wimbledon goodbye with a clinical 60-minute victory on Court One. Kvitova could not hold back the tears when she was given a standing ovation by the crowd, responding with a wave before drying her eyes. "It's very special to play on this beautiful court one more time. I wish I could play a little bit longer but it's OK, whatever" she said as more tears flowed. "This place holds the best memories I could wish for. I never dreamt of winning Wimbledon. "I will miss Wimbledon for sure, I will miss tennis but I'm ready for the next chapter as well. "I can't wait to be back here as a member. Thank you very much Wimbledon." A raw 21-year-old when she stunned Maria Sharapova to win the 2011 Wimbledon final, three years later Kvitova returned to the All England Club title match to rout Eugenie Bouchard 6-3, 6-0. Now ranked 572, Kvitova has lost eight of her nine matches since becoming a parent. But she says Wimbledon means "everything to me", an emotional connection forged not just in her tennis triumphs but also because her engagement to her coach Jiri Vanek took place on Centre Court in 2022. She rolled back the years at the start of the first set, racing into a 3-1 lead with a series of blistering winners. But the left-hander is no longer the force of old and she lost five games in a row with a host of unforced errors as Navarro took the set. By the time Kvitova lost the first two games of the second set, her fate was almost sealed. She managed one last echo of yesteryear, holding serve in the third game and celebrating with a clenched fist. That show of defiance was Kvitova's final fling as a double-fault finished her All England Club career. She bowed out with a kiss to her family in the players' box before leaving the Wimbledon stage for the last time.
