Car flies into barn roof after veering into yard and hitting little boy in Germany
The car first collided with a parked vehicle, broke through a hedge and drove into a garden where it hit the boy on Sunday in the town of Bohmte, in northwestern Germany.
The car then went over uneven ground and it was apparently catapulted into the air and ended up crashing into the roof of a neighbouring barn about 3m off the ground.
The boy was seriously injured, German Police said.
The 42-year-old driver only suffered minor injuries, but his wife was seriously injured.
Their two sons, aged 11 and 12, and a 13-year-old passenger were also in the car and suffered only minor injuries.
Dozens of firefighters, as well as a dozen ambulances and two rescue helicopters were among the emergency services deployed in response.
Images from the scene showed rescuers cutting through the roof, and wreckage of a playground that the car ran through.
The car had to be removed from the roof with a crane and was carted away by police.
An investigation is underway.

Train derails in Germany killing three, injuring others
A regional passenger train derailed in southern Germany, killing at least three people and seriously injuring others, authorities said. Federal and local police said the cause of the crash near Riedlingen, roughly 158 kilometres west of Munich, remains under investigation. Photos from the scene showed parts of the train on its side as rescuers climbed atop the carriages. It was not immediately clear how many people were injured. Roughly 100 people were onboard the train when at least two carriages derailed in a forested area around 6:10 pm Sunday (0210 AEST Monday). Storms passed through the area before the crash and investigators were seeking to determine if the rain was a factor. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, in a post on social platform X, said he mourned the victims and gave his condolences to their families. Deutsche Bahn, Germany's main national railway operator, said in a statement that it was cooperating with investigators. The company also offered its condolences.
