Car flies into barn roof after veering into yard and hitting little boy in Germany

7NEWS2 days ago
Several people have been injured by a car veering off a road, hitting a seven-year-old boy on a trampoline and flying into a barn roof on its side.
The car first collided with a parked vehicle, broke through a hedge and drove into a garden where it hit the boy on Sunday in the town of Bohmte, in northwestern Germany.
The car then went over uneven ground and it was apparently catapulted into the air and ended up crashing into the roof of a neighbouring barn about 3m off the ground.
The boy was seriously injured, German Police said.
The 42-year-old driver only suffered minor injuries, but his wife was seriously injured.
Their two sons, aged 11 and 12, and a 13-year-old passenger were also in the car and suffered only minor injuries.
Dozens of firefighters, as well as a dozen ambulances and two rescue helicopters were among the emergency services deployed in response.
Images from the scene showed rescuers cutting through the roof, and wreckage of a playground that the car ran through.
The car had to be removed from the roof with a crane and was carted away by police.
An investigation is underway.

Man stabbed and shot by masked offenders during 'graphic' Gladstone Park home invasion

Police are the seeking public help to identify five individuals behind a "violent and graphic" targeted attack at a home in Melbourne's north-west. The incident occurred early Thursday morning at Trentham Drive in Gladstone Park, where a couple's home was broken into while they slept. Police said five people disguised in hoods and face coverings first attempted to enter through the front door before making it in through a rear entrance. Detective Inspector Adam Tilley said the disturbance awoke the occupants, a 60-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman. The man then approached the offenders, who were in possession of knives, a hammer and a firearm. "An assault has then occurred, quite a graphic assault," Detective Inspector Tilley said. "The 60-year-old male has been struck about the body numerous times with a hammer and also then stabbed about the body. "He has also sustained a gunshot wound to the arm." The man was attacked over five to 10 minutes, police said, and sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital for treatment. Police said the 57-year-old woman, who remained in the bedroom, was also approached and threatened with a firearm but was not injured. Police believe the incident was targeted, saying the group made demands for money and asked about the location of another male who is known to authorities. Detective Inspector Tilley said police were looking into that man's whereabouts and had dispatched a "safety message" to his family. "This is a violent and graphic incident that's occurred here for two occupants at their home," he said. "To be woken by five offenders, let alone [for them] to be armed with a firearm, knives and also a hammer, is extremely concerning to us, and that's why we're really seeking the public's support. "It's a concern that the offenders are still out in the community." An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Grim update in latest search for Julian Story's missing remains in Port Lincoln, South Australia

The search for alleged murder victim's missing remains has again been suspended, after days of intensive searching across a regional seaside town in South Australian. Julian Story was allegedly murdered last month in the Port Lincoln apartment he shared with his girlfriend, former Beauty And The Geek star Tamika Chesser. Police allege Chesser, 34, killed and dismembered Story, including cutting off his head, on June 17 — the day after his 39th birthday — before setting his body on fire inside the unit. Chesser, 34, is charged with murder, disposing of human remains to pervert the course of justice and assaulting a police officer and remains in custody ahead of her next court appearance in December. Story's head has not been found. An earlier weeks-long search for the missing remains involving detectives, police officers and local SES personnel looking in bushland and along the coastline at Port Lincoln had been paused until new search locations were identified and investigated earlier this week. On Thursday, South Australia Police Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said that latest search will now stop unless police get 'specific information'. On June 27, Story's family released a statemen, thanking the larger South Australian community for their support. 'On behalf of our family, we want to sincerely thank the South Australian Police, emergency services, and first responders for their compassion and professionalism during this devastating time,' they said. 'We are navigating an unimaginable loss, and your care has brought comfort amid the chaos. 'We are also deeply grateful to our family and friends and this extraordinary community, whose kindness and support have helped carry us through. 'Your prayers, presence, and quiet strength mean more than words can say.' People have appealed for public assistance tracking Chesser's movements around the time of the alleged murder. Police released CCTV images of the dark clothing she was seen wearing at the time, including as she walked a dog in the area. Story will be farewelled in a private funeral on August 6 at St Mary's of the Angels church in Port Lincoln.

Carolina Wilga: German backpacker discharged from Evangelical Hospital

Backpacker Carolina Wilga has been discharged from a German hospital, almost two weeks after she was found missing in WA's outback. Evangelical Hospital spokesperson Kathrin Simonis on Thursday confirmed Ms Wilga was 'no longer admitted in this hospital', according to News Corp. The hospital is located in her family's hometown, Castrop-Rauxe, about 70km north-east of Dusseldorf. German newspaper BILD reported Ms Wilga had touched down at Dusseldorf Airport on Sunday afternoon, where she was escorted in a private ambulance to Evangelical Hospital. The 26-year-old was met by a nurse who — with the assistance of bodyguards — helped her into a wheelchair. A spokesperson for Castrop-Rauxel City's mayoral office said Mayor Rajko Kravanja was 'really, really happy' Ms Wilga was found safe and well. 'He was extremely moved by the entire story with Carolina, but it wasn't of course just about the mayor, it was the whole population here, the people of our town were really moved and and really concerned,' a spokesperson told the masthead on Thursday. 'We are now all so happy that it has ended this way, and that Carolina is now back here in Castrop-Rauxel, and back with her family.' Ms Wilga miraculously survived 11 nights alone in the remote Wheatbelt bush after her crashing her car, hitting her head and wandering off in a state of confusion. She survived by drinking rainwater from puddles and sleeping in a cave before she was spotted by local farmer, Tania French. Ms Wilga spent four nights recovering in Fiona Stanley Hospital before being discharged last Wednesday afternoon. In a statement, Ms Wilga thanked the WA community for their 'outpouring of support'. 'Western Australia has taught me what it really means to be part of a true community,' she said. 'The thought of all the people who believed in me, searched for me, and kept hoping for me gave me the strength to carry on during my darkest moments.' Ms Wilga farewelled Perth in a touching Instagram post at the weekend. 'Reunion with the ocean and a great goodbye to Perth with loooots of hugs ❤️ love you all,' she captioned the since deleted post. She shared several photos of her time in hospital, at Cottesloe Beach with friends, and a front page of The West Australian that featured her dramatic ordeal. Speculation is mounting Ms Wilga may have signed an exclusive deal to tell her story to a German television network.
