Puttaparthi: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday stated that the responsibility of shaping a child's future lies not just with schools, but with every stakeholder - teachers, parents, and the state alike. It is a collective responsibility, he added. Attending the second edition of the mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM 2.0) at the Zilla Parishad High School in Kothacheruvu in the district, the Chief Minister gave priority to spend time with students, interacting with them. Reaffirming the government's commitment to strengthening the teaching workforce, the Chief Minister recalled that one of the coalition government's first decisions was to sign on a Mega DSC to fill 16,347 teacher posts. All selected candidates are expected to complete training and report to their schools by August. He said that under his leadership, Andhra Pradesh has conducted 12 DSC recruitments, appointing a total of 1.66 lakh teachers- a stark contrast to the previous administration, which failed to issue even a single notification in five years. He criticised the former regime for causing unnecessary confusion with promises like TOEFL coaching and IB syllabi, none of which were fulfilled. In contrast, the current government has ensured transparent teacher transfers and is open to continuous suggestions from both parents and educators to improve the system, he added. Speaking on the occasion, HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, reflecting on his own school days, credited his mother Bhuvaneshwari's dedication for his academic progress, drawing a deeply personal connection to the broader mission grounded in family, duty, and public service. The Chief Minister talked about Lokesh's steadfast commitment to revamping government schools and delivering world-class learning to students across Andhra Pradesh. Having studied at some of the best institutions globally, Lokesh has chosen to dedicate his expertise to transforming public education in the state, he said. The coalition government, with a strong focus on excellence, is working to elevate government schools to compete confidently with private institutions, he added.

Trade unions' strike: Normal movement of Har Roadways impacted at some places
Hisar/Ambala: The 24-hour nationwide general strike called by the trade unions to protest against new labour codes and privatisation on Wednesday impacted normal movement of Haryana Roadways buses at some places. In places like Hisar, Bhiwani, Kaithal and Kurukshetra, the normal movement of the state transport was impacted. The Roadways employees staged a sit-in protest at the bus terminuses in support of the demands. Shops, commercial establishments and other institutions functioned normally at most places. The rail movement was also normal. Sarbat Singh Punia, the vice-president of All India Road Transport Workers Federation, claimed that Roadways buses remained off the roads on several routes. He said various roadways unions took part in the nationwide strike. Subhash Lamba, the president of All India State Government Employees Federation, claimed that several government employees from various departments also joined the strike. Besides, Anganwadi, Accredited Social Health Activist workers, and rural sanitation workers also joined the strike, Lamba said. According to the employee organisations in Haryana, the aim of this strike is to protest against the anti-employee and anti-labour policies of the central government and to press for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). In Kurukshetra, while commercial establishments including shops, banks and government offices worked normally, a 'chakka jam', on the call of the Roadways union, had some impact on normal movement of Roadways buses. In Ambala, there was no major impact of the nationwide strike call. Almost all the major markets including wholesale cloth market, Sarafa Bazaar and Grain Market remained open in the district. Most of the industrial units were working as usual. However, Haryana Roadway workers affiliated to Sarv Karmchari Sangh staged a dharna in front of the Roadways office in Ambala City. The Roadways union leaders claimed that bus service in the district was affected. Meanwhile, workers affiliated to Safai Karmchari Sangh, took out a protest march at Ambala Cantt and submitted a memorandum to the Sub Divisional Magistrate related to their demands. Sarbat Punia said that when Haryana had a population of one crore in 1990-91, the Haryana Roadways had a fleet of 3,884 buses. 'Now, the population has increased three-fold and against the requirement of 12,000 buses in the fleet, we have less than 3,000. As a result, common people, women, students, they face problems,' he said.

LIC staff participates in nationwide strike
Vijayawada: Employees of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Wednesday participated in a nationwide strike, protesting against the Central government's policies which are 'undermining public sector undertakings and labour laws.' Dr Chilakalapudi Kaladhar, Joint Secretary of the Insurance Corporation Employees' Union (ICEU), Machilipatnam Division, vehemently demanded an immediate halt to these policies. Speaking at the strike programme held in front of the local LIC office in Governorpet here, as part of a countrywide call to action, Kaladhar demanded the withdrawal of the proposed Insurance Act Amendment Bill, which is expected to be introduced in the upcoming Parliament session. He criticised the government's renewed efforts to divest its stake in LIC, stating that it would not benefit the institution or its policyholders. He also called for a reduction in the 18 percent GST on insurance premiums, which he described as a heavy burden. Kaladhar highlighted the increasing workload within LIC due to a high number of retirements and a severe lack of recruitment in Class-3 and Class-4 categories for many years. He urged for immediate recruitment drives for these staff categories. He also advocated for the merger of the four general insurance companies and stressed that the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), which has been re-implemented in Rajasthan and four other states, should be extended to all LIC employees. P Ajay Kumar, State Vice-President of CITU, who attended the programme in solidarity, echoed these demands. P Krishna, President of the LIC Pensioners Association, Machilipatnam Division; MN Patrudu, N Gopalakrishna, and Ch MV Prasad from the LIC Retired Employees Association; and Salim, a leader of the LIC Employees Federation, also addressed the gathering. Union leaders including NMK Prasad, EV Tulasi Rao, Srinivasa Kumar, Jagan, Krishnaprasad, Saiprasad, Nagamani, and Govardhan participated in the strike.
