Punjab: Documentary on Moose Wala: Court seeks Balkaur's reply to BBC's objections by July 1

During the hearing, duty magistrate Ankit Airi, additional civil judge, granted Balkaur time and directed him to submit his reply at the next hearing scheduled for July 1.
Satinder Pal Singh, counsel for Balkaur, said that no other directive was issued by the court during Monday's proceedings and no arguments were heard. 'The court admitted our submission to file a reply next week,' said Singh.
Balkaur Singh had filed the suit on June 10 against the BBC, investigative journalist Ishleen Kaur and programme producer Ankur Jain. The suit challenges BBC's screening and release of the documentary.
BBC lawyer Balwant Bhatia said on Monday that in the last hearing on June 16, it was objected that the civil writ was filed against the Delhi-based BBC, which is a subsidiary of the UK-based broadcasting organisation, whereas the Indian team of the BBC had no role in the making of the documentary.
'The UK-based BBC World Service made the documentary, but the BBC in India was made a party in the petition. The Indian arm of the BBC was not involved in its creation, they only had a role in planning a screening. The documentary was released by the BBC World Service on YouTube and it has already been watched worldwide on social media,' said Bhatia.
Additionally, Bhatia argued that the petition was beyond the jurisdiction of the Mansa court.

Sri Lanka arrests eight Tamil Nadu fishermen
RAMANATHAPURAM: Eight Indian fishermen hailing from Rameswaram were arrested by the Sri Lankan navy in the wee hours of Sunday for allegedly crossing the IMBL, marking the first arrest of fishermen by the island nation since the annual fishing ban was lifted on June 14. The Sri Lankan navy confiscated the boat, bearing the registration number IND-TN-10-MM-773, owned by S Pandiyammal of Rameswaram. The arrested fishermen have been identified as S Sesu (39), N Annamalai (55), V Kalyanaraman (48), S Syed Ibrahim (35), N Muneeswaran (35), U Selvam (28), K Kanthivek (67) and Balamurugan (24). According to official sources, 300 mechanised vessels from Rameswaram north port ventured into the sea on Saturday. Upon return, a few boats allegedly drifted past the IMBL and were chased away by the Sri Lankan navy. However, on Sunday early morning, a boat with an eight-member crew that remained in the Sri Lankan waters was caught near Deft island. They have been remanded till July 3. Fishermen associations in Rameswaram condemned the arrest and urged the centre to secure their release.

An Indian Aviation Minister on Sunday (June 29, 2025) said investigators were probing 'all angles' behind the Air India plane crash in Gujarat's Ahmedabad when asked by media about possible sabotage. All but one of the 242 people on board the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner were killed when it crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12. Authorities have identified 19 others who died on the ground, but a police source told AFP after the crash that the toll was 38. India's Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, said the investigation was looking at "all angles" when asked specifically about possible "sabotage", in an interview with Indian news channel NDTV. "It has never happened before that both engines have shut off together," Mr. Mohol said earlier in the interview, in reference to theories by some experts of possible dual-engine failure. The Minister added that until the investigation report is published, it would be premature to comment on the cause. The team appointed to investigate the crash started extracting data from the plane's cockpit voice and flight data recorders this week, in an attempt to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the disaster. Air India has said that the plane was "well-maintained" and that the pilots were accomplished flyers.
