Qatar tops in MENA region in public transport access, sustainability, and innovation
The capital city Doha has the world's highest number of kilometers per million inhabitants (64km/1 million population) compared to several world capital cities. Doha also ranks third globally in terms of number of public buses for every one million inhabitants (969 buses/1 million inhabitants), which reflects Qatar's significant investment in public transportation. Regarding the metro network fleet, Doha comes fourth globally in terms of number of metro cars (278 cars/1 million inhabitants).
The UITP report lists Qatar among the top 20 countries in the world in terms of public transportation user experience alongside Amsterdam, Geneva and Singapore. The report shows Qatar as one of the most efficient countries in terms of public transportation fare according to the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), making public transportation affordable for all.
According to the report, Qatar has one of the highest rankings in the MENA region in environmental sustainability of the transportation system with comprehensive plans for transition to clean energy. It also highlights Qatar among top countries in terms of the smart infrastructure for the public transportation system with an integrated network supported by digital transformation and sustainable facilities.
The report lauds Qatar's qualitative progress in upgrading its public transportation system in terms of infrastructure, sustainability, digital transformation, and integration of mobility modes, thereby meeting the needs of its population and visitors and supporting the Qatar National Vision 2030. The report underlines that such qualitative leapfrogs had demonstrated Qatar's position as one of the leading countries in public transportation regionally and internationally.
The report also highlighted the Doha Metro as one of the most advanced and most efficient mobility systems in the world thanks to its full driverless automation and high ridership per every 1 million people. It also lauded Doha Metro's role in the success of major events Qatar organizes or hosts, first and foremost the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 where fans enjoyed safe and smooth movement.
The report says Lusail Tram stands out and reflects ambitious urban planning. Serving the smart city of Lusail with the highest rates of kilometers per each one million inhabitants if compared to similar cities, the report said Lusail tramway network reflects a forward-looking vision to enhance urban mobility.
The report says:
'Qatar has taken significant steps toward electrification, with Doha integrating electric buses into its public transport network. Qatar has outlined plans to transition its public bus fleet to full electrification by 2030, supported by an expanding charging infrastructure and investments in smart mobility.'
The report adds that Lusail is home to the world's largest e-bus depot running on solar energy to feed its facilities, with advanced infrastructures including smart charging stations, digital tracking systems, and green maintenance centers.
The report also praised Qatar's success in integrating various transportation modes into one system while making several solutions available for users such as electronic payment using cards and via applications and smart platforms for trip planning and bus tracking, something which helps achieve smooth and efficient connectivity between metro networks, buses, trams and shared mobility.
The UITP report says that Qatar's experience in public transportation represents a role model, regionally and internationally, combing operational efficiency, environmental sustainability and technology innovation. It also reflects the country's commitment to achieving the QNV 2030 and sustainable development goals and enhances its preparedness to host major events and offers world-class urban mobility experience.

Qatar provides $4.8 billion in foreign aid to LDCs: NPC
QNA New York The National Planning Council (NPC) has revealed that Qatar provided $4.8 billion in foreign aid since 2020, 90 percent of which has been allocated to Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Sixty-four percent of this aid aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in the areas of poverty alleviation, healthcare, and education. National Planning CouncilSecretary-General HE Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa is heading Qatar's delegation to the 2025 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, which begins at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Monday and will run until July 23. Al Khalifa will present Qatar's Voluntary National Review (VNR) at the HLPF, which serves as the UN's central platform for reviewing global progress on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, said NPC in a statement today. The HLPF brings together heads of member states, international organizations, and civil society to assess performance and accelerate action toward the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this context, Al Khalifa stated, 'Qatar's participation in the HLPF reflects its commitment to implementing the Sustainable Development Agenda as an integral part of its national development journey, guided by Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy. By showcasing the progress made in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, Qatar's Voluntary National Review highlights the strong alignment between national and global development objectives, broadening avenues for international cooperation and partnership to secure a prosperous and sustainable future for generations to come.' In addition to presenting Qatar's 2025 Voluntary National Review, he will take part in ministerial roundtable sessions, bilateral meetings, and expert panels taking place throughout the forum. Prepared under the leadership of the National Planning Council, Qatar's 2025 VNR comprises a 297-page national report that documents over 900 data points, 251 indicators, and 30 case studies. This marks Qatar's fourth VNR, reflecting broad-based contributions from over 100 stakeholders, including youth, the private sector, ministries, academia, and civil society organisations. This VNR provides a data-driven account of how Qatar is translating its long-term vision into measurable progress. Under Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy (2024-2030), more than 60 national strategies have been aligned with the SDG framework.

Minister highlights innovation, IP strategy at WIPO dialogue
Tribune News Network Doha Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs HE Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed represented Qatar at the high-level ministerial policy dialogue convened by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland. Held under the theme 'Shaping the Future of Innovation,' the event brought together ministers of trade and economy, heads of international organisations, and leading global experts to deliberate on the evolving landscape of innovation and intellectual property (IP). In his address, Al Sayed emphasised the crucial role of international cooperation in fostering a resilient, knowledge-based global economy, particularly in light of growing global transformations. He highlighted the importance of policy dialogues like the WIPO gathering, noting their value in exchanging strategic insights on the future of innovation and economic competitiveness. The minister of state reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to positioning innovation at the core of its national development agenda, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy (2024–2030). These frameworks aim to transform Qatar into a global hub for innovation, investment, and sustainable growth. He outlined the ministry's ambitious strategies launched in January 2025, aimed at boosting productivity and sectoral competitiveness. These strategies prioritise key economic sectors, support robust public–private partnerships, and foster an enabling environment for startups and entrepreneurs. Al Sayed also pointed to Qatar's world-class innovation infrastructure, notably the Qatar Science and Technology Park, as a catalyst for research, development, and investment. He noted the country's comprehensive incentive packages for strategic sectors, designed to attract both local and foreign investors. Highlighting Qatar's efforts to modernise its intellectual property framework, he underscored the value of strategic collaboration with WIPO. He cited the June 2023 memorandum of understanding signed between Qatar and WIPO to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in integrating IP into their business strategies as a key milestone. Another major development was Qatar's accession to the Madrid Protocol for the international registration of trademarks in May 2024, which came into effect on August 3, 2024. This step has significantly simplified procedures for trademark registration, thereby enhancing the investment climate and improving legal certainty for international businesses operating in Qatar. On the sidelines of the WIPO dialogue, Al Sayed held a bilateral meeting with WIPO Director General Daren Tang. The two officials discussed avenues for deepening cooperation between Qatar and WIPO, particularly in the areas of dispute resolution, intellectual property protection, and capacity building. A key highlight of their discussion was Qatar's upcoming hosting of a high-level conference in collaboration with WIPO, titled 'The Role of Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms and the Protection of Intellectual Property and Innovation in Attracting Foreign Direct Investment for Sustainable Development – Qatar National Vision 2030 and Beyond.' The conference is expected to serve as a platform for legal experts, investors, and policy makers to explore the intersection of IP protection and foreign direct investment within a framework of sustainable development. Concluding his remarks at the WIPO dialogue, Al Sayed reiterated Qatar's firm commitment to establishing an integrated system that safeguards intellectual property rights, promotes innovation, and supports economic diversification. He affirmed that protecting IP is essential not only for fostering innovation but also for securing long-term economic growth and international investor confidence.

Justice minister commends achievements in digital services for real estate sector
QNA Doha Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Ibrahim bin Ali bin Issa Al Hassan Al Mohannadi has praised recent achievements in the real estate sector, including the launch of digital services, the updated version of the Sakk programme featuring automated electronic services integrated with the Qatar Digital ID (QDI) system, the introduction of video communication services for the first time, and the issuance and activation of the executive regulations and decisions for Law No. (5) of 2024 regulating real estate registration. He added that the MoJ's ambitious vision includes organising real estate registration and documentation procedures with high efficiency and quality, fully digitising the ministry's services, ensuring transparency, protecting rights and property, facilitating real estate transactions, and supporting the country's investment environment. This aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy, and enhances the role and status of the real estate sector in the country's comprehensive renaissance. This came during a meeting held this morning by the minister with the Real Estate Registration Department at the Ministry of Justice, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Saeed bin Abdullah Al Suwaidi, the Assistant Undersecretary for Real Estate Registration Affairs, Amer Saeed Al Ghafri, as well as department directors and heads of sectors at the ministry's service centres and external branches. The minister stated that with these achievements, the Real Estate Registration Department is ushering in a new phase that reflects the wise leadership's directives to facilitate services for clients, simplify transaction procedures without the need to visit the ministry, and improve public service by activating digital transformation programs and offering self-executing transactions without human intervention. He pointed out that the Real Estate Registration Department serves as the ministry's frontline in dealing with citizens and clients, which places a greater responsibility on it to continue enhancing efforts to streamline procedures, improve the work environment, and expand the scope of digital transformation. This is particularly important in light of rapid technological advancements and the capabilities provided by the state to serve citizens, residents, and investors in line with best international practices and modern public service standards. The meeting also discussed the latest initiatives launched by the Real Estate Registration Department and the new electronic services activated in accordance with the executive regulations and decisions of the Real Estate Registration Law.
