
Saudi Science and Engineering Team Heads to US for ISEF 2025
Running from May 10-16, 2025, ISEF 2025 will see the participation of 1,700 students from 70 countries. The Saudi Science and Engineering Team will include 40 students, selected from more than 291,000 participants in the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity 'Ibdaa,' with 23,000 research projects across 22 scientific fields.
Saudi Arabia's participation in ISEF is supported by the Saudi Ministry of Education and the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba).
Since 2007, the Kingdom has been an active participant in ISEF, the largest global competitive scientific forum for high school students in the fields of science and engineering.
In the previous editions of ISEF, Saudi students secured 160 awards, including 110 grand awards and 50 special awards. At ISEF 2024, the Saudi Science and Engineering Team claimed 27 awards, including 18 grand awards and 9 special awards.
Students participating in ISEF undergo an intensive training and preparation process through Mawhiba programs to enhance their scientific and research skills and qualify them for participation.

Saudi students win 7 awards at STEM contests
JEDDAH: Saudi students secured seven international awards at the International Mathematical Olympiad on the Sunshine Coast, Australia, and the European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics in Bonn, Germany. Their participation was overseen by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, known as Mawhiba, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Saudi Press Agency reported. They won six awards at the maths contest — three bronze medals and three honorable mentions — competing against 630 students from 110 countries. Bronze medals were awarded to students from the Royal Commission for Yanbu, Madinah, and the Eastern Province education directorates. Honorable mentions went to participants from Jeddah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province. Since joining the competition, Saudi Arabia's tally has grown to 12 silver medals, 48 bronze medals, and 22 honorable mentions. At the informatics event, Saudi student Riefal Khaled Al-Hazmi, from Tabuk, won a bronze medal in a field with 226 participants from 60. Mawhiba, together with the Ministry of Education and national partners, continues to develop initiatives that equip Saudi students with world-class skills, enhancing the Kingdom's position in science and technology worldwide.

Saudi students win 7 international awards in math and informatics olympiads
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Saudi students have achieved seven international awards in two major scientific competitions: the 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) and the European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI). At the 66th edition of the IMO, held in Sunshine Coast, Australia, Saudi Arabia's team secured six awards, including three bronze medals and three honorable mentions. The competition featured 630 students from 110 countries. The bronze medalists were Youssef Ayman Bukhait (Royal Commission for Yanbu Education), Abdulsalam Abdullah Al-Sulami (Madinah Education), and Moath Saeed Al-Qahtani (Eastern Province Education). Meanwhile, honorable mention awards went to Ahmed Fareed Al-Khalawi (Jeddah Education), Ahmed Saad Al-Shahri (Riyadh Education), and Mohammed Ahmed Al-Ghamdi (Eastern Province Education) With these results, Saudi Arabia's overall record at the IMO now stands at 12 silver medals, 48 bronze medals, and 22 certificates of a parallel achievement, Saudi high school student Rival Khalid Al-Hazmi from Tabuk Education (Grade 12) won a bronze medal at the 5th edition of the European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics, held in Bonn, Germany. The event featured 226 participants from 60 countries. This brings the Kingdom's total tally in the EGOI to seven international awards since its debut in the competition.

Saudi minister holds strategic AI and tech talks with French institutions in Paris
Saudi Gazette report PARIS — As part of Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha held a series of strategic meetings in Paris with leading French research institutions and global technology firms. The minister began his engagements with Dr. Bruno Sportisse, CEO of INRIA, France's national institute for digital sciences and technology. The two sides discussed potential partnerships in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and robotics, including the establishment of joint research labs and researcher exchange programs aimed at talent development. In a separate meeting with Arthur Mensch, CEO of Mistral AI, Alswaha reviewed areas of collaboration in the development of open-source large language models (LLMs) and enhancing innovation in generative AI. Alswaha also met with Marie-Laure Denis, President of the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL), to explore cooperation in data governance and protection. The discussion included Saudi Arabia's regulatory frameworks and international initiatives to promote responsible use of emerging technologies. Additionally, the Saudi delegation held talks with Patrice Caine, Chairman and CEO of Thales Group, on collaboration in intelligent systems and space technologies. The discussions focused on supporting Saudi Arabia's priorities in building robust digital infrastructure and advancing its high-tech industrial base.
