Couple's bizarre Rs 1,30,000 wedding meal auction to fund honeymoon sparks ‘clever or cringe' debate online

Weddings are often remembered for their vows, the first dance, and the shared joy of families coming together. But one couple found themselves at the centre of an online firestorm after introducing an unexpected twist to their wedding feast — auctioning off the first plate of dinner. According to a viral post on X (formerly Twitter), shared by the account @turbothad, the newlyweds kicked off their reception meal by announcing a live auction.
'The bride and groom just sat everyone down and said 'Alright folks, we know everyone's hungry… So we're auctioning off the first plate of dinner. Whoever buys it gets their table served first. Proceeds go to our Alaska fishing trip honeymoon.' Plate sold for $1500. Brilliant,' the post read.

And just like that, a standard reception turned into a spectacle. What started as a moment of surprise turned into a lively bidding war, culminating in one enthusiastic guest reportedly shelling out $1,500 (Rs. 1,30,000 approx) for the honour of eating first.

Netizens had a mixed reaction
In a follow-up post, the user praised the couple's strategy, writing: 'Selling to a room full of emotional people drinking on empty stomachs who love you… Genius.' While many at the actual wedding appeared to find the idea hilarious and memorable, the rest of the internet wasn't quite on board with the approach.
Critics were quick to question the ethics of asking guests — many of whom had already spent time and money attending the event — to pay extra for timely access to food. One user commented, 'This is absurd and manipulative. Everyone has spent a lot of money and time to join you at your wedding. Making them pay extra to be served food in a timely manner is terrible.'
Another chimed in with mock-legal advice: 'Bid $10,000 and never pay. A contract entered under duress is unenforceable.'
Others saw the humour in it. One person recalled, 'Went to a wedding once where dessert was a rock-paper-scissors tournament. Things got violent. Weddings are wild these days.'
Another guest shared a more philanthropic approach to wedding gifts, stating, 'We didn't really want presents, so we directed people to charities. This is a fabulously fun idea too.'
Weddings are evolving. As traditions blur with personal touches, some couples are choosing to turn the event into a creative expression of their values — or, in this case, their sense of humour. While some see the dinner auction as a clever and lighthearted fundraising method, others feel it crosses the line of hospitality and respect.

Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar 2 struggles for screens amid Saiyaara wave, makers offer 50% discounted tickets

The unexpected, unprecedented box office success of Mohit Suri's romantic drama Saiyaara, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, took the film industry by surprise. It prompted Ajay Devgn to push his new release, Vijay Kumar Arora's comedy Son of Sardaar 2, by a week from July 25 to August 1 in order to ensure enough screens for his long-awaited sequel. However, as Saiyaara continues its dominant run, with last week's release following closely, it looks like Son of Sardaar 2 won't get the number of screens it was aiming for, especially in the single screens or non-national cinema chains. While PVRINOX is trying to get 60% of shows across all Indian screens, it may just have to settle for a meagre 35%. As per a Pinkvilla report, Son of Sardaar 2 distributors PVRINOX has been insisting on four shows a day from single screens. However, many of these single screens have decided to skip Son of Sardaar 2 altogether to have more shows of both Saiyaara and Ashwin Kumar's animated mythological film Mahavatar Narsimha, which is presented by Hombale Films, the production house behind pan-India blockbusters like KGF and Kantara. Saiyaara, which released on July 18, is now in its second week, but in no mood to slow down. It's collected Rs 266 crore at the domestic box office in just 12 days. It's also become the highest-grossing Hindi film starring newcomers. It's backed by Aditya Chopra's Yash Raj Films, which famously jostled with Devgn Films back in 2012 when the first part, Ashwni Dhir's Son of Sardaar, released in cinemas. Devgn sued YRF for illegally snatching away screens from Son of Sardaar on Diwali in favour of Yash Chopra's romantic drama Jab Tak Hai Jaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Anushka Sharma. YRF had struck a deal with cinemas across the country in which they had to give majority screens to Jab Tak Hai Jaan in advance while buying YRF's previous blockbuster, Kabir Khan's spy thriller Ek Tha Tiger, starring Salman Khan and Katrina. Along with Saiyaara, Mahavatar Narsimha is also proving to be a formidable competition to Son of Sardaar 2. The film has already collected Rs 29.35 crore in just five days of run at the domestic box office. To make matters worse, Shazia Iqbal's romantic drama Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, is also releasing in cinemas this Friday on August 1. Like Son of Sardaar 2, Dhadak 2 is also a sequel — to Shashank Khaitan's 2018 hit Dhadak — albeit with a new cast and director. The production house, Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, is going the Kesari 2 way with this film. It's releasing only in 1000 screens across India, focusing on the urban centres, with more screens expected to add in case the word of mouth is in their favour. In order to attract footfalls, both the new releases — Son of Sardaar 2 and Dhadak 2 — are offering 50% discounts on ticket prices using certain coupon codes. That's not only a massive drop from the opening day figure of Devgn's last release, Raj Kumar Gupta's thriller Raid 2 (Rs 19 crore) earlier this year, but even a decline from the opening day figure of Son of Sardaar (Rs 10 crore+) back in 2012.

Rasha Thadani Serves Sexy Airport Look In Pink Crop Top And Cargo Jeans

Last Updated: Rasha Thadani, daughter of Raveena Tandon, was seen at Mumbai airport in a bubblegum pink crop top, rugged denim cargo jeans, a blush-pink handbag, and black bangles. Rasha Thadani is serving and how! The star kid, who's fast becoming a Gen Z fashion icon, was snapped at the Mumbai airport today and she looked absolutely sexy, stylish, and super fit. Raveena Tandon's daughter was basically everything we love in a good airport spotting moment. Rocking a bubblegum pink spaghetti crop top that showed off her toned abs and sunkissed glow, Rasha proved she's got the it-girl style game locked down. She paired the top with rugged denim cargo jeans, slightly slouched and patched for that cool streetwear edge. The cargo pants, with their big pockets and laid-back vibe, perfectly balanced the flirty pink top. Rasha carried a soft blush-pink handbag which was totally on-theme with the rest of her pink Barbiecore aesthetic. On her wrist, she stacked up black bangles for an edgy desi-meets-90s twist. She wore her long tresses in two cute braided pigtails, with soft flicks framing her face, a nostalgic Y2K nod. Her makeup was minimal and glowing: a natural base, glossy pink lips, and a flush of blush that matched her top. Topping it all off were those rose-tinted sunglasses. Take a look: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Manav Manglani (@ Rasha Thadani, daughter of Raveena Tandon and Anil Thadani, is slowly stepping into the world of showbiz. She took her first step into Bollywood with the period drama Azaad, released on January 17, 2025, directed by Abhishek Kapoor and starring Ajay Devgn. In the film, she played Janaki Bahadur, a strong-willed landlord's daughter, in a story set during India's struggle for independence. Despite a modest box office haul of about Rs 1.5 crore on opening day and critical response calling the film slow-paced, Rasha's presence stood out. Critics noted she had a screen presence despite needing to work on her emotional scenes. Even though Azaad didn't perform well at theaters, a clip of Rasha delivering a heartfelt dialogue went viral online, with fans dubbing her the next 'princess voice." Set in pre-Independence India, Azaad tells the story of a skilled horse rider (played by Ajay Devgn) who flees from the merciless English army. But her life turns upside down when his horse gets lost, forcing him to embark on a risky search with the assistance of a young man. Looking ahead, she is gearing up for her second venture, Laikey Laikaa. Rasha will share the screen space with Abhay Verma, best known for his role in Munjya. The upcoming action film, slated for a 2026 theatrical release, will reportedly feature the new-age actors in lead roles.
