EF0 tornado briefly touches down in Annapolis
On Friday, the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that the waterspout passed briefly as an EF0 tornado over the Severn Sailing Association marina.
According to the NWS, a witness watched as the waterspout moved ashore and over the marina, blowing over multiple trailered and small boats in the parking area.
Videos from social media captured near the Route 450 bridge showed the tornado spinning from the shoreline to the mouth of the river, moving west to east.
It then disappeared before reaching land on the opposite side of the river.
No additional damage was reported.
A Flash Flood Watch was in effect for most of the Baltimore region, including Howard County, until early Friday morning.
Storms brought severe damage to multiple communities.
In Mt. Airy, a 13-year-old boy drowned after being swept into an outdoor drainage pipe.
Meanwhile, in Harford County, two people were rescued from floodwaters at the Pulaski Highway and Baltimore County line.
"Numerous people have been rescued from flood waters as a result. Fortunately, there have been no injuries," the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company said. "Do not attempt to drive or cross flooded roads or sidewalks. Turn around, don't drown."
Additionally, an ambulance and at least one vehicle crashed in the Joppa area and were leaning on the side of the road on Mountain Road and Greenspring Avenue.

DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — Tuesday, August 5, will be a busy day in the Circle City! Not only is it election day, but students will head back to class for the first day of learning within Dothan City Schools. On top of that, WDHN forecasters predict widespread rain could hit Dothan and the surrounding area around 1:00 p.m., with the heaviest showers coming between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Houston County Probate Judge Patrick Davenport, a veteran of multiple elections, says that historically, rain impacts voter turnout negatively. Studies show that bad and severe weather depresses voter turnout on election days, especially among young voters, while warmer temperatures lead to higher voter turnout. WATCH: Dothan election debate A study from the Frontiers in Psychology claims that every 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit increase in temperature leads to a 1.14% increase in turnout at the polls. According to Davenport, dreary weather can also have an impact on the elderly or citizens who do not have independent modes of transportation, making it difficult to get to the polling places. However, while the weather could knock voter turnout down, the first day of school could have an opposite effect. While the first day could be the exception, Judge Davenport says that voter turnout tends to be on the high side when schools are in session, due to the structure that a school day brings to families. Slightly more arrests, fewer ambulance transports from Lollapalooza this year compared with '24
The cleanup and dismantling process has begun in Grant Park with Lollapalooza over, and crews are expected to be out for that purpose for the next few days. The weather cooperated for most of the weekend, as air quality alerts for wildfire smoke in the air weakened. A festival spokesperson said attendance numbers for Lollapalooza for 2025 were about the same as those for 2024. They totaled about 115,000 people each day, which is also the daily capacity for the festival. But Chicago's Office of Emergency Management and Communications said ambulance transports from the festival were down from last year, while the number of arrests went up — albeit by a very small number. In 2024, arrests at the festival hit a five-year low. The OEMC said police arrested nine people across the four days. This year, that number went back up, to 12 arrests. As for ambulance transports to hospitals, the number went down this year to 42, compared with 63 last year. Another number that seems to be down is that of items at the festival's lost-and-found, where sunglasses, jewelry, and walkie-talkies were among the items spotted. Organizers said the lost items inventory looks to be a lot less compared to past years. The lost-and-found at Lollapalooza is also something that takes a few days to get wrapped up. Those in charge said they saw a lot less inventory than past years at the lost-and-found, which is set up at the Grand Traditions Room at the Hilton Chicago at 720 S. Michigan Ave. across from Grant Park.
