Fat Joe entangled in explosive lawsuit as dark allegations surface
The civil lawsuit was filed by Joe's former hype man, Terrance T.A. Dixon, and he is suing the musical legend from the Bronx for $20 million (359 686 000 ZAR).
Fat Joe, whose given name is Joseph Cartagena, is in good spirits despite these accusations, according to rapper Ja Rule, an acolyte and collaborator of his.
The lawsuit was filed in the New York Federal court. The suit accuses Fat Joe of overseeing what the plaintiff, Dixon, calls the 'Cartagena Enterprise' — an alleged criminal network involving sexual coercion, labour exploitation, financial fraud, and racketeering.
Dixon claimed to have been subjected to over 4000 coerced sexual acts during the 16 years he collaborated with the rapper.
The suit also focuses on Dixon's accusations of being threatened with professional derailment, violence, as well as payments being withheld. The hype man also alleged that the Lean Back hit maker organised group sex encounters. These were said to have involved minors at times. Dixon submits that he witnessed these instances.
The lawsuit holds more accusations involving non-payment of royalties, failures regarding songwriting credits, the submission of falsified documents to conceal publishing revenue, and wage theft.
Fat Joe, or Joe Crack as he is known by fans of rap music, has denied all these allegations.
These developments come on the back of Joe having released a decent album towards the tail end of last year. The offering is ironically called The World Changed on Me. He also has a new podcast, Joe and Jada , alongside another New York rapper, Jadakiss. Their podcast is outperforming many established ones with hip hop as their focus.
In April of this year, Joe filed a lawsuit against Dixon and his attorney, citing defamation and attempts at extortion.
'I've been tested the last few months – I've lost my big brother, my father, my mother, and now I'm fighting against these disgusting lies. But please know I will not break and I will never back down,' Joe said.
'If you get fired for doing something wrong, just take the L [loss] and live with it. But instead, they plot on your downfall.
'They figure they can make up the most insane stories and, if they threaten you with a lawsuit, then you'll pay and they'll feel like they finally won,' he lamented in a statement released on his Instagram.
A court hearing has been scheduled for August 1, 2025.

Speaking with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos on the American talk show "Kelly and Mark", Lohan reflected on her life in the vibrant city, famously known as the City of Gold. 'It's just far away from Hollywood and I live a very normal life,' Lohan said, explaining how her decision to leave the United States has profoundly impacted her family dynamics. UPDATE: American R&B star Tank cancels SA performance
Tank was scheduled to perform at the launch of Ndlala Mall, owned by Lerato Kganyago's husband. International R&B singer Tank, whose real name is Durrell Babbs, says he is no longer coming to South Africa this August. The I Deserve hitmaker was set to perform live in Pretoria on 2 and 3 August at the grand opening of Ndlala Mall, owned by businessman Thami Ndlala, husband of media personality Lerato Kganyago. 'South Africa, what's going on? I was looking forward to coming out there; it's been over 10 years. But some things have fallen apart business-wise that will keep me from fulfilling my obligations to you,' he said. Tank also apologised to his fans, saying he is disappointed that he will no longer be able to deliver his signature R&B experience to his Mzansi followers this year. 'I first want to apologise to the fans and everyone who was making plans to pull up and enjoy the music. Hopefully, things can be resolved, and I can get out there and do what I love to do. 'I love going to new places and giving people the R&B experience that is me. South Africa, I don't want to leave you out… I won't be there this August 2nd and 3rd, but we'll figure out how to make it happen,' he added. In a video Lerato shared on her Instagram Stories last month, Tank had expressed excitement about performing in South Africa. 'Africa… listen, I am pulling up on you. It's going to be R&B, and it's going to be crazy. I am coming, and I am excited. I can't wait to see you.' The R&B singer has since deleted the performance announcement video from his Instagram posts.
