Asian Cricket Council President Mohsin Naqvi is pictured with other cricket boards' representatives after the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting in Dhaka on Thursday. PHOTO: PCB The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) wrapped up its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday in Dhaka, with all 25 member nations in attendance. ACC President Mohsin Naqvi lauded the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for its exceptional hospitality throughout the two-day gathering. "I would like to thank the BCB for their warm hospitality and all member countries for their active participation," said Naqvi at a press conference following the meeting. Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), underscored the collective resolve of the member nations to propel Asian cricket forward. "We have decided to work together for the betterment of cricket," he affirmed. Naqvi described the AGM as both "fruitful and memorable," indicating productive outcomes and a positive collaborative spirit among the participating nations. "These two days were truly memorable. No one wants politics involved — the meeting was held in a very positive environment." Regarding the Asia Cup 2025, Naqvi assured that a final decision will be made soon, adding that discussions with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are ongoing. "A decision regarding the Asia Cup will be announced shortly," he stated. "Talks with the Indian Cricket Board are ongoing, and we're optimistic everything will be resolved in due course." Responding to concerns about the absence of certain individuals, Naqvi clarified that while not everyone could attend in person, every member board was represented. "Some people couldn't make it to Dhaka — that happens. I myself missed a meeting in Singapore once. Sometimes it's due to scheduling conflicts, but the important thing is that all member boards were represented." Stressing the importance of unity and collaboration, Naqvi highlighted the collective responsibility of working for the growth of cricket in the region. "This is a team effort, and we will continue to hold such meetings in the future," he added. He also confirmed that discussions with the Bangladesh Board on several matters are underway. "Please wait for the official announcement," he concluded.

CDA launches crackdown on illegal housing societies

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched a decisive crackdown on illegal housing societies operating within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), following the directions of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and under the supervision of Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa. As part of the ongoing operation, multiple unauthorized housing schemes were identified and action was taken against their illegal constructions, unapproved advertisements, and the sale of plots without official sanction. The CDA revealed that these societies were functioning without mandatory approvals, including layout plans and no-objection certificates (NOCs), in clear violation of ICT Zoning Regulations. Enforcement teams from CDA, in coordination with the ICT Administration, dismantled illegal site offices, boundary walls, and other unauthorized infrastructure developed by these societies. Legal notices have also been issued to developers and sponsors, warning of strict penalties and further legal action in case of continued non-compliance. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa stressed that illegal housing schemes pose significant threats to public safety, infrastructure, and the master plan of Islamabad. He reiterated the authority's firm resolve to curb unregulated urban sprawl and enforce planned development across the federal capital. The CDA has once again urged the public not to invest in any housing project that lacks CDA approval. A complete list of approved and legal societies is available on the CDA's official website. Citizens have been advised to verify the legal status of any project before committing to investments. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

Dar to meet Rubio for key talks today

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Ishaq Dar is slated to meet US Secretary of State, Senator Marco Rubio on Friday (today) in Washington DC to cover a wide range of bilateral and regional issues, including Pakistan-India tension, de-escalation, Pakistan-India ceasefire agreement, and regional development. 'Discussions will emphasise the importance of diplomacy and Pakistan-India dialogue in South Asia,' Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan stated this during a weekly media briefing on Thursday. When asked about American officials' statements to host Pakistan-India FMs over luncheon on Friday, he, however, showed ignorance about such a meeting. Rubio tells PM: US seeks Pakistan's help for ME peace To another question, Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan said that Pakistan maintains that the path to lasting peace in South Asia lies in meaningful dialogue. 'It is for India to decide whether it wishes to engage constructively. We believe India should be thankful to the US for its role in de-escalating recent tensions, which led to a ceasefire. The causes leading to the ceasefire are well known. Any misadventure by India will receive a firm and proportionate response,' he asserted. The spokesperson emphasised that Pakistan remains ready to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Responding to queries, the FO spokesperson dismissed the reports that the visit of the President of Iran was slated for July 26, however, dates are currently being finalised by the foreign ministries of both countries. 'Bilateral relations, trade, economy, people-to-people contacts, and much-stalled Pak-Iran gas pipeline project, will feature prominently in the agenda during Iran's President visit to Pakistan,' he remarked. Pakistan remains committed to supporting the people of Gaza. Unfortunately, Israeli restrictions have hindered humanitarian access. Pakistan continues to urge all parties to come to the negotiating table and adopt peaceful means to resolve the conflict. Regarding the renewal and registration of Proof of Registration (PoR) cards for Afghan refugees, he highlighted a decision is awaited from the Ministry of Interior. Shafqat Ali Khan said that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's recent visit to Afghanistan was of considerable importance. He said the presence of terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan remains a major obstacle and impediment to regional peace. The spokesperson has also brushed aside the speculation about the recognition of the Taliban government in Kabul, terming it premature. He added that Pakistan-Afghanistan Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) is an early harvest initiative and is expected to progress further in the near future. Pakistan remains committed to enhancing economic and trade ties with Afghanistan. Pakistan supports a peaceful resolution of the Iran nuclear issue through negotiations. Stability in the region depends on dialogue and mutual understanding. The FO spokesperson announced that Pakistan is actively pursuing full membership of BRICS and is serious about contributing to the grouping's goals and vision. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025
