[UPDATED] Anwar conferred Kosovo's highest civilian honour [WATCH]

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was today conferred the Order of Independence, the highest civilian honour awarded by the Republic of Kosovo to individuals who have played a significant role in supporting the country's independence.
The Order, conferred by Kosovo President Dr Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, also recognises Malaysia's unwavering support for Kosovo's statehood and post-independence development.
It further acknowledges Anwar's steadfast commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
In a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, it was announced that Osmani will also confer the Order of Independence on the late Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, in recognition of his leadership during a pivotal period in Kosovo's history.
"Under his stewardship, Malaysia became one of the earliest countries to recognise Kosovo's independence on Oct 30, 2008," it said.
Among past recipients of the Order are United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan (2014); former United States president George W. Bush (2018); former Swiss president Micheline Calmy-Rey (2022); and the late former Belgian Senate president Anne Marie Lizin (2024).

Lula confirms ASEAN Summit attendance, urges Brazil biz to seize opportunities

RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has officially confirmed his attendance at the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur this October. His participation follows an earlier invitation extended by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Speaking at the BRICS Business Forum opening, Lula expressed gratitude for the invitation and stressed the importance of proactive engagement. 'I would like to convey my sincere thanks to the Prime Minister of Malaysia for this invitation. I will participate in the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur this October,' he said. Lula urged Brazilian entrepreneurs to prepare for the summit, highlighting its significance as a key business platform. 'I invite Brazilian businessmen and women to get ready to travel to Malaysia, those who want to sell should go, and those who want to buy should also attend. Don't just wait and expect things to happen,' he added. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also addressed the forum with a speech titled 'Bridging Continents, Building Future: A Shared Agenda for Sustainable Progress. ' The event was attended by Brazil's Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and Ricardo Alban, President of the Brazilian Confederation of National Industry (CNI). ASEAN boosts local currency trade for financial stability, says PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: ASEAN is reforming its trade practices by increasing the use of local currencies among member nations to build a more stable financial system free from unilateral dominance, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced. Speaking at the BRICS Business Forum in Rio de Janeiro, Anwar emphasised that while full de-dollarisation remains distant, ASEAN nations—including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and China—have begun adopting local currencies for trade. 'Even if it starts with just 10 or 20 per cent of trade volume, it makes a difference. We cannot keep complaining without taking action,' he said. The forum, themed 'Bridging Continents, Building Future: A Shared Agenda for Sustainable Progress,' also saw attendance from Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, and Ricardo Alban, President of the Brazilian Confederation of National Industry. - Bernama

Anwar urges BRICS to emulate Asean and boost intra-member trade

RIO DE JANEIRO: Asean's move to trade in local currencies among its member states is part of efforts to strengthen the financial system and be free of unilateral domination. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this is also one of the steps towards reforming Asean, which had previously focused on boosting trade among member states. "Malaysia, together with Indonesia, Thailand and China, have begun using our own currencies (to trade), even though it makes up only 10 to 20 per cent of total trade. "This signals change as we cannot continue to complain without carrying out our own plans," he said at the BRICS Economic Forum, held in conjunction with the BRICS Summmit here. Also present were Brazil president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, vice-president of Brazil Geraldo Alckim, and Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI) president Ricardo Alban. Anwar said trade among BRICS members should be intensified to the same level as Asean's. "Right now, we must increase intra-BRICS trade. We have a huge potential for progress, and only with that strength can we negotiate safely and fairly with other partners." Malaysia's participation in the summit is due to its status as a BRICS partner country, and as the 2025 Asean chair. Malaysia became a BRICS partner country on Jan 1 this year.
