Jill Sobule death: Terrifying new details of house fire revealed

New York Post28-05-2025
Jill Sobule's death is still under investigation as new horrific details emerge about the fatal house fire that broke out earlier this month.
The 'I Kissed a Girl' hitmaker's body was discovered in a bedroom on the second floor of her friends' two-story Minnesota home, according to the Woodbury Public Safety's fire report obtained by The Post on Tuesday.
The report dated May 16 stated that while the source and cause of the fire are still being investigated, the blaze may have started outside, with officials noting that 'abandoned or discarded materials or products' were contributing factors to the ignition.

It also stated that those inside the home were asleep when the fire broke out on May 1 at around 5:37 a.m. and that they did not appear to be impaired by drugs or alcohol.

Smoke detectors were present and alerted the occupants of the blaze, per the report that also revealed three stories of the home, which included the roof, suffered 'extreme damage' of upwards to 70-100 percent.
The report also included an incident summary detailing what Woodbury firefighters witnessed when they first approached the burning home — and their heroic efforts to desperately extinguish the out-of-control blaze when they learned that Sobule had not made it out with her friends.
'Initial reports stated there was no one inside. While enroute [sic], a dispatch update revealed there was one person still inside the home,' the outline read, stating that 'large heavy black smoke was witnessed from about 1/2 mile out from the home.'

When the first fire unit arrived on the scene, they 'could see flames fully involved in [the] back of [the] home, with large rolling flames coming out the front door of the home and out through the roof,' as well as 'heavy smoke and flames coming from the front door and front windows.'
They also noted that 'the back deck was 'fully gone' and the basement windows on the west side of the home were actively breaking out due to the heavy fire involvement.'

The first arriving crews were 'initially unable to make entry into the home' due to the 'heavy amounts of smoke and flame,' the report stated, noting that 'an exterior offensive attack strategy' was then called into play.

Firefighters worked tirelessly, with some battling the fire from the front of the 3,128-square-foot home and others tackling the flames from the back as two ambulances were requested to the scene 'for EMS standby.'
'After knocking down enough fire to safetly [sic] gain access into the home, a primary search was initiated to locate the missing person,' the report read. 'The deceased was found on the second floor of the home in a bedroom on the Charlie/Delta corner.'
The State Fire Marshal and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner later arrived at the scene to conduct their investigations before crews removed Sobule's body from the four-bedroom, three-bathroom home.

Teams continued to clean up and extinguish the remaining hot spots before all units cleared the scene, according to the report.
The scene examination also revealed that 'heavy fire damage' was 'observed on the rear exterior of the home, appearing to originate near the pre-existing screened in porch and deck area,' with burn patterns extending 'from the ground level up to the deck' and continuing 'to the roofline and into the attic space of the roof.'
The report noted that 'the deck area and screened in porch are mostly gone, with only some horizontal and vertical structural support members remaining.'

The Woodbury Public Safety Fire Marshal concluded that following the preliminary investigation into the fatal fire, further examination assistance is needed, so it's now in the hands of the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office.
'At the time of completion of this report, the cause of the fire and death still remain under investigation,' the fire marshal stated.

Almost immediately, investigators began looking into whether the singer was still alive when the house went up in flames.
Sobule's friends — a married couple — made it out of their house and believed she was behind them. Once they were safely outside, they discovered the heartbreaking truth.
Several of the singer's colleagues addressed her death, with her manager, John Porter, telling The Post, 'Jill Sobule was a force of nature and human rights advocate whose music is woven into our culture. I was having so much fun working with her. I lost a client and a friend today. I hope her music, memory, & legacy continue to live on and inspire others.'
Her former roommate exclusively spoke to The Post and recalled her last memory of the star.
Sobule dropped 12 albums during her three-decades-long career and was also behind the autobiographical musical 'F–k 7th Grade,' which saw a four-theatrical run, as well as the theme song for Nickelodeon's 'Unfabulous.'
She left behind her brother, James, sister-in-law, Mary, and two nephews.

Brazil's Lula visits Fernández de Kirchner under house arrest in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES (AP) — Brazil President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited former Argentina President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner at her home Thursday, where the former leader is serving her six-year sentence for corruption under house arrest. Fernández had asked the court's permission to receive Lula, a longtime political and ideological ally. Lula was in Buenos Aires for the summit of the regional Mercosur trade alliance and made the short trip to Fernández's home in Argentina's capital after the meeting concluded. Lula was inside with Fernández for just under an hour and they did not appear publicly together. It was not Lula's first show of support for Fernández since Argentina's Supreme Court upheld her sentence last month . He had called her to express his support after her conviction. Fernández had been convicted of directing state contracts to a friend while she was the first lady and president. The sentence also permanently bans her from holding public office. Fernández dominated Argentine politics for two decades and forged the country's main left-wing populist movement known as Kirchnerism, after her and her husband, former President Néstor Kirchner. Lula has also faced imprisonment. While he was held in a police station in Curitiba in 2019, also for corruption, he received then-Argentinian presidential candidate Alberto Fernández, a political ally of Cristina Fernández who is not related to her. Lula's conviction was later overturned. Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request. There was a problem with the recaptcha. Please try again. You may unsubscribe at any time. Lewis Hamilton warns against rushing an ‘F1' movie sequel after box-office success

SILVERSTONE, England (AP) — Lewis Hamilton says he just wants to enjoy the 'F1' movie's success as he warned Thursday that rushing a sequel would be 'the worst thing we probably could do.' The seven-time Formula 1 champion was an executive producer on the film , which stars Brad Pitt as a hard-bitten racer making a late-career comeback. It became Apple's biggest box-office hit yet when it debuted with $55.6 million in North American theaters and $144 million globally over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday. 'We literally just finished it, so I think the last thing we want right now is a sequel,' Hamilton said Thursday ahead of the British Grand Prix. 'It's been four years in the making. It was a lot of work, particularly for (director Joseph Kosinski). It's time away from your family, it's time away from your kids, and also you need this to just simmer for a while, you know. Like, let's enjoy it. 'I think the worst thing we probably could do is to rush into doing a sequel,' the Ferrari driver added. 'Most sequels are way worse, and so we don't need to rush it. I think if we do do a sequel, I would say let's really, really take our time in getting it even better.' Hamilton said he was bringing F1 race-track procedures to the movie business by asking for a 'debrief' on the project, in the same way a team analyzes a race before heading to the next one. 'Let's review what we did, what we could have done better,' he said. 'I don't know if they ever do that in the movie business, but it's something obviously I've learned from here.' ___ AP auto racing:

Israeli drone strike kills 1, injures 3 near Beirut

KHALDEH, Lebanon (AP) — An Israeli drone strike hit a car on a highway in the town of Khaldeh just south of Beirut, killing one person and injuring three others, Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported Thursday. The Israeli army said in a statement that it had targeted 'a saboteur who was involved in arms smuggling and advancing terrorist plots against Israeli citizens and the Israeli Defense Forces on behalf of Iran's Quds Force.' It was not immediately clear if the target of the strike was the person killed. A U.S.-brokered ceasefire deal nominally ended the latest war between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah in November, but Israel has continued to launch near-daily airstrikes in Lebanon since then against what it says are officials and facilities of Hezbollah and other militant groups. Hezbollah has claimed one strike fired across the border since the ceasefire. Most of the Israeli strikes have been in southern Lebanon, but Israel has also struck a handful of times in Beirut's southern suburbs since the ceasefire. Thursday's strike was in a congested area close to Lebanon's only commercial airport. Nearly 250 people were killed and 609 wounded in Israeli attacks in Lebanon between Nov. 28 — the day after the ceasefire took effect — and the end of June, according to Lebanon's health ministry. Also Thursday, Hezbollah members and supporters held a funeral in Beirut's southern suburbs for the former bodyguard and head of security of Hassan Nasrallah, the group's longtime leader. Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli strike in Beirut last year, while his former bodyguard was killed in Iran during last month's Israel-Iran war, along with his son. ——-
