NDTV11 hours ago

Neena Gupta has always been a health-conscious eater. She finds peace in enjoying homemade food items and often shares her healthy recipes with her Instagram community. Her recent food indulgence features a roti pizza, made without cheese. Curious? In the clip she shared, she was seen busy buttering a chapati, as she said, ' Achcha humne abhi roti mein lagaya hai, roti banake rakhli thi, makkhan lagaya hai. (The roti was prepared and kept aside. I have applied butter on it.)' The veteran star then continues, ' Aaj hum roti pizza mein aalu ke jagah shakarkandi dalenge matlab sweet potato (Today we will put sweet potato instead of potato in roti pizza),' and documents her entire recipe. She captioned the video as ' Aaj ka special..homemade pizza.'

She adds, ' Abhi humne isme dala thorasa tomato ketchup. Isko faela diya, makkhan lagaya, tomato ketchup faelaya, kone mein daalenge. Kone men hamesha jyada dalna chahiye. (Now we have added some tomato ketchup to it. We spread it, applied butter, spread tomato ketchup, and we will put it in the corner. We should always put more in the corner.)' This is followed by the addition of thinly chopped pieces of onions, sweet potatoes, while she says, ' Ab hum daalenge, aaj humne sweet potato yaani shakarkandi ko steam kar liya hai instead of aalu kyunki aap sablog jo hai aalu nhi khaana chahte. Main toh khaana chahti hu. (Now we will add, today I have steamed sweet potato instead of potatoes because you all don't want to eat potatoes. I want to eat potatoes.)'
Neena Gupta then proceeds to top the chapati with salt, tomatoes, homemade paneer, and capsicum one by one and mentions, ' Hum daalenge ye - humara ghar ka bana huya paneer okay. Paneer upar se nhi daalte nhi toh karak ho jaate hai, andar ghusa dete hai. (We will add this - our homemade paneer. We don't add paneer on top otherwise it will become hard, we put it inside.)'
Then comes the most exciting part - adding the seasonings. She happily shares, ' Ab hum isme daalenge pizza masala. Ye tikha hai nah zyada nhi daalenge (Now we will add pizza masala to it. It is spicy so we will not add too much),' further stating, ' Toh isme no cheese so its very healthy.' Neena's cook also lends a hand by adding black pepper to the preparation while she counts ' thora sa pine nuts yaani chilgoza ' and a little bit of chilly flakes for making the dish even more delicious.
At the end, the actor asks her cook to spread butter on the pizza from the top, mentioning, ' Ab hum isko oven mein rakh denge aur upar se thora makkan. Lagao, mere haath mein mirch hai tum hi lagalo haan. Jyada nhi lagana woh ajeeb sa taste aata hai makkhan mein. (Now we will put it in the oven and put some butter on top. Apply it, I have chilli in my hand, you apply it. Do not put too much, it tastes like weird in butter.)'
' Abhi usko oven mein rakh denge, niche upar dono ka karke aur roti ekdum papad jaisi ho jayegi. So hum nikal ke kha lenge (Now we will put it in the oven, and the roti will become exactly like papad. So we will take it out and eat it),' she cheerfully concludes.
Although the actress didn't show the final preparation, but from what the dish looked like before entering the oven, it was every bit healthy yet mouth-watering.
Neena Gupta's homemade roti pizza recipe is incredible. Isn't it?

Barsaat in the times of battery of apps

It's that time of year again when the rainy season is at the doorstep and one is not sure whether it's going to rain cats and dogs, or whether one has saved enough for the rainy day. In these times of artificial rain, a la Dubai's fake cloud fiasco, not sure whether we should be saving for a rainy day or saving for a fake rainy day. (Instagram/Soumarup Ghosh) Come monsoon, and these are just some of the rain idioms one ends up pondering about. How digital life has perhaps even rendered redundant some monsoon proverbs and rain ditties. How technology has even transformed the ways in which we get rain ready. In these times of artificial rain, a la Dubai's fake cloud fiasco, not sure whether we should be saving for a rainy day or saving for a fake rainy day. Or take 'My Fair Lady's' fabled rain ditty. Were Hollywood's late diva Audrey Hepburn to do an Eliza Doolittle in this digital era, she may have had to croon tweaked lyrics: 'The fake rain in Bahrain, stays mainly in the plain...' Rain readiness As for being rain ready, in pre-digital times, it entailed a huge flurry of preparations. The rainy season saw people bustling about busy to bring on the three S's : Stocking. Sealing. Saving. Stocking: It entailed stocking up on provisions lest the Rain God and team decided to play a Test match up in the clouds rather than a sort of quick half-day IPL. The stocking meant piling up mostly daily provisions --- dabbalroti to doodh, eggs to veggies and fruits --- lest the doodhwallah and pheriwallahs play truant in the Test match staged by the Rain God's franchise. Since the cup cakes and sweet buns that the dabbalroti-wallah ferried were a daily staple come rain or shine, they too were very much part of the monsoon stockpile building. Digital life has changed all that, even our exertions to be rain ready. No worry now of a dabbalroti-wallah not turning up, he has as it is been delivered a death-knell. No tension now of a doodhwallah, with clanking and clanging milk cans, playing truant in the barsaat. Blinkit, BB Now, Instamart & Co hain naa. Even on days when it's raining cats and dogs, Digital India is generally assured of the bloke with the brown paper bag banging the doorbell. Unless the roads are clogged like a heart patient's arteries or Trump's grey cells. Sealing: Rain readiness spelt all kinds of sealing and screening. Cracked windows, leaking crevices and nooks needed to be sealed. A major concern for booklovers of yore was how to protect shelves and cupboards, chock-a-block with tomes and texts, from dampness. Damp shelves or dripping roofs could ruin literature of a lifetime. Stumbling upon patches of mouldy greenishness while thumbing through a treasured tome are a dreaded sight for a book collector. Thus, earlier days would see manual exercises of rain-proofing the walls of damp book cupboards or bookshelves. The weapons of protection would be anything handy -- mammoth plastic sheets culled from discarded atta bags to even rolls and rolls of aluminium foil. Ditto for clothes closets housing treasured silks and delicate chiffons. Exquisite brocades and Banarsis needed to be stowed away in potli bags or damp-proof stout steel trunks, with silica gel pouches. Digital life has changed all that, too. Rain-ready your home now, just at the tap of an app. Urban Company, UrbanRoof, and dehumidifier contraptions hain naa. Saving: Strange how with time, phrases and idioms sometimes grow up to acquire more literal meanings, than the original figurative connotations. Take the phrase 'to save for a rainy day'. Given the contemporary scenario, it may now carry more a literal meaning. Saving for a rainy day may entail investing in insurance against false ceiling collapses in chandeliered condos, where Digital India's mushrooming builder brands parked material as cheap as a Sarojini Nagar faux vanity kit. Saving for a rainy day may now literally mean buying life jackets and personal customised speedboats, sporting 24x7 wi-fi, to survive flooded flyovers, swimming skyrises and clogged condos in metropolises or millennium cities such as Gurugram. This should suffice to give a drift of things, without flooding the reader with more monsoon imagery. The curious case of 'A Walk In The Faux Clouds'. chetnakeer@

Ibrahim Ali Khan Hangs Out With Saif Ali Khan, Taimur Plays Cricket With Jeh In Family Vacation Pics

Last Updated: Saif Ali Khan vacations with Kareena Kapoor and sons Ibrahim Ali Khan, Taimur Ali Khan and Jeh after Sunjay Kapur's death and knife attack. Bollywood royalty Saif Ali Khan is soaking in some much-needed family time. The actor is currently on a serene vacation with wife Kareena Kapoor Khan and their sons — Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir (Jeh) Ali Khan. Joining them on the trip is Saif's son from his first marriage with former actress Amrita Singh, Ibrahim Ali Khan. Taking to Instagram, Ibrahim shared a heartwarming glimpse from their day out at the park, calling it a 'park day." The carousel of photos includes a relaxed moment with Saif and all three of his sons — Ibrahim, Taimur, and Jeh — sitting together on a fallen log, sharing smiles and brotherly warmth. Another candid shot shows little Taimur enthusiastically bowling to younger brother Jeh, who stands ready with a bat in hand, proving that cricket runs deep in the Khan household. Fans were quick to flood the post with love, happy to see Saif back on his feet and enjoying precious moments with his blended family. In January this year, Saif Ali Khan was the victim of a shocking knife attack when an armed intruder broke into his Bandra home around 2:30 a.m. The man allegedly entered baby Jeh's room. Saif rushed to intervene and was stabbed six times — including two deep wounds to his back, one dangerously close to his spine. He was immediately taken to Lilavati Hospital by his son Ibrahim, where he underwent emergency surgery to remove the blade and repair spinal fluid damage. The attacker fled but was arrested within days. Saif was discharged five days later after the traumatic episode. Two weeks back, Kapoor family faced an emotional setback when Kareena Kapoor's sister, Karisma Kapoor's ex-husband, Sanjay Kapur, passed away on June 12. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena were seen attending his last rites and the prayer meet held in Delhi, standing by the family during the difficult time. After returning to Mumbai, the couple soon took off for a quiet family holiday, likely seeking some peace and healing after a series of deeply personal events. First Published:

‘We Shared Few Beautiful Years': Shefali Jariwala's Ex-Husband Harmeet Singh Mourns Her Death

Mumbai: The sudden death of actor and dancer Shefali Jariwala has left her fans and loved ones in deep shock. Amid the many tributes pouring in for the 'Kaanta Laga' fame, her ex-husband, singer Harmeet Singh of the Meet Bros duo, shared a heartfelt post on Instagram remembering her, expressing grief over the news, and also sharing his regret at not being able to attend her funeral, as he is currently in Europe. Calling it "one of the most shocking moments" of his life, Harmeet said he was "absolutely shattered and in disbelief." Along with an old picture of Shefali, he wrote an emotional message: "One of the most shocking moments of my life. I'm absolutely shattered and in disbelief after hearing about Shefali's sudden and untimely demise. We shared a few beautiful years together a long time ago--memories I'll always hold close to my heart. My deepest condolences to her parents, Satish ji and Sunita ji, her husband Parag, and her sister Shivani. Being away in Europe right now, it's painful for me not to be there for the last rites. Gone far too soon. I pray to the Almighty for her soul to rest in peace and for strength to her family during this unimaginable time. Jai Shree Krishna." Shefali and Harmeet were married in 2004 but parted ways in 2009. Their relationship reportedly faced emotional struggles during its course. After their separation, Shefali married television actor Parag Tyagi. Shefali Jariwala, whose career skyrocketed after her appearance in the hit 2002 music video 'Kaanta Laga', was rushed to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Mumbai on June 27, where she was declared dead upon arrival. She was 42. Shefali was also featured in the 2004 film 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi', alongside Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. Additionally, she gained recognition on television with appearances in popular reality shows, including Bigg Boss 13 (2019) and Nach Baliye (seasons 5 and 7), where she participated alongside her husband, actor Parag Tyagi.
