Curious About Rishabh Pant's Moon Boots? Here's What They Are And Why He Needs Them
Last Updated: Cricket shoes are lightweight, flexible, and feature spikes to provide traction on the pitch. They are designed for quick movements. Moon boots are rigid and heavy Indian cricket star Rishabh Pant is known for his fearless batting and fiery presence on the field. But off the field, he's showing the same fighting spirit—this time, against injury. After suffering a painful foot injury during the recent Manchester Test against England, Pant has turned heads not just for his resilience, but also for the unique medical shoe he's now wearing: a moon boot. On July 23, 2025, during Day 1 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester, Pant was batting fluently on 37 off 48 balls when disaster struck. In an attempt to play a reverse sweep against pacer Chris Woakes, the ball slammed into his right foot. The impact caused immediate swelling and bleeding. Medical staff rushed in, and Pant was taken off the field via a medical cart, visibly in pain. In the days that followed, images of Pant wearing a bulky, futuristic-looking boot went viral. That was not a regular cricket shoe—it was a moonboot, a medical device often used to aid recovery from foot or ankle fractures. What Is A Moon Boot? This specially designed boot serves three critical purposes: Made with a hard plastic shell, thick padding, and Velcro straps, moon boots are sturdy yet surprisingly lightweight. Pant, diagnosed with a metatarsal fracture, has been advised by the BCCI medical team to wear one for a minimum of six weeks. How Much Does A Moon boot Cost? The price of a moon boot in India ranges from Rs 3,000 to Rs 8,000 for standard models. However, top-end brands used in elite sports recovery—like Ossur or DJO Global—can go up to Rs 10,000 or more. As a centrally contracted player, Pant likely received a premium-grade boot tailored for his recovery needs. Moon boot vs Cricket Shoe: What's The Difference? Cricket shoes are lightweight, flexible, and feature spikes to provide traction on the pitch. They are designed for quick movements—running, wicket-keeping, or bowling. Moon boots, on the other hand, are rigid and heavy. They are not made for performance but for protection and healing. There are no spikes, and they restrict movement intentionally. Pant's Recovery Timeline According to a BCCI update on July 24, Pant has been advised six weeks of rest and physiotherapy. He will wear the moon boot throughout this period. If his recovery progresses well, light training could begin by September, with a potential full return to competitive cricket by October, when India is scheduled to host New Zealand for a Test series. For Pant, the moon boot is more than a recovery tool—it's a stepping stone towards yet another comeback. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. City rows to sporting destination goal on boats of new complexes & old strengths
Bhopal: The city's plan to transform its sporting infrastructure has a dual focus for now— to create 'world-class' facilities to nurture talent and to host prestigious competitions in its backyard. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The sports department is establishing an extensive sports facility across 100 acres, with an investment of roughly Rs 1000 crores in Ratibad. A new international level rowing facility is planned at Upper Lake, and the housing board is developing a sports complex on 17 acres, allocating 200 crores for the project in question. The city currently features notable sports facilities, including a SAI Centre, four prominent hockey stadiums, Faith Cricket Stadium, Shrewsbury Cricket Stadium equipped with floodlights, and Tatya Tope Stadium equipped with modern athletic track and football ground and other games. An international-grade rowing centre will be established in the Upper Lake area of Khanugaon, following the chief minister initial approval. The planned facility, with an estimated cost of 7-8 crores, will be built on 5500 square feet of land. It will include a gymnasium, administrative offices, storage for 100 boats, and other facilities. Building work is expected to begin within a month of receiving official approval. The venue will serve as a training facility for athletes and host national and international events. The organisers plan to commence hosting competitions at this location by 2026. "We will be able to start the process of building the centre as soon as we get the permission. Our plan is to organise competitions here from 2026," says deputy director, sports department, B S Yadav on the project. The new rowing centre at Upper Lake will feature modern amenities designed to international standards. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The facility will accommodate both training sessions and competitive events. The storage capacity for 100 boats ensures adequate equipment availability for athletes. The gymnasium will provide essential strength training facilities, while the administrative block will manage daily operations efficiently. The MP housing board has announced plans for a substantial sports complex in Ayodhya Nagar. The sanctioned project will utilise 17 acres of former quarry land, where presently only a section is available for children's play activities. The Housing Board aims to transform this space into a comprehensive sports facility. "We will soon issue a tender for the appointment of an architect for this project. A plan is being worked out to develop facilities for all major sports here, including a cricket ground, swimming pool, and badminton court," said Rahul Haridas Fating, commissioner, housing board. The Ayodhya Nagar sports complex project represents a remarkable transformation of previously unused quarry land. The planned facilities will include multiple sporting venues suitable for various disciplines. The swimming pool will meet competitive standards, while the badminton courts will be designed for both recreational and professional use. The existing sports infrastructure in Bhopal already supports diverse athletic activities. The SAI Centre serves as a crucial training hub for aspiring athletes. The hockey stadiums too have historically contributed to developing talented players. The cricket stadiums, with their modern floodlight systems, enable day-night matches throughout the year. The sports department's 100-acre development project aims to create an integrated sports ecosystem. The facilities will cater to both elite athletes and community sports programmes. The infrastructure will include training grounds, performance analysis centres, and support facilities for multiple sports disciplines. The housing board's involvement in sports infrastructure development reflects a broader commitment to community wellness. The integration of sports facilities within urban planning demonstrates a holistic approach to city development. This strategy aims to make sports more accessible to residents while creating opportunities for professional athletic development. The timeline for completing these projects indicates a phased approach to development. The rowing centre's targeted completion aligns with plans to host competitions by 2026. The careful planning ensures that each facility meets specific requirements for different sporting disciplines. These developments position Bhopal as an emerging sports destination in Central India. The comprehensive infrastructure is expected to support athlete development, host competitions, and promote sports culture in the region. The investment in these facilities could help in furthering sporting excellence and community engagement.
