Kota Kinabalu: Well-known local brand DOJO Nanyang Kopi House officially launched a new outlet in the fast-growing Parklane City in Benoni here. The café will bring its signature Nanyang flavors to the local community and, in turn, expand dining options and strengthen the township's culinary appeal. Its presence adds diversity to the area's food and beverage (F&B) landscape and offers Papar residents another high-quality dining destination. DOJO Nanyang Kopi House Benoni branch Director Khor Boon Theng and operations and training manager Vicee Lo Vui Chee said this to WSG Group Managing Director Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen. The outlet is strategically located at a corner lot opposite 10Star Cinemas and Majestic Banquet Hall. The premise features a spacious two-storey layout with both air-conditioned indoor dining and outdoor seating, capable of accommodating up to 120 patrons. To ensure excellent service, the branch has hired 50 staff, including over 30 kitchen crew, waiters and waitresses, as well as 20 administrative and management personnel. In line with the brand's philosophy, DOJO has prioritized hiring locals from Papar, in effort to create job opportunities within the community. Founded in 2017 in Tawau, DOJO Nanyang Kopi House blends authentic Nanyang-style cuisine with Sabah's local culture, setting it apart from typical West Malaysian Nanyang eateries. Since its inception, the brand has expanded across Sabah, including multiple outlets in east coast and Kota Kinabalu, and has gone international with a branch in Tarakan, Indonesia. 'Everything that's in Kota Kinabalu, you'll find here too. Benoni Parklane City is poised to thrive,' Khor said. He credited Susan for her instrumental role in transforming Papar into a booming township beyond Kota Kinabalu. With extensive facilities including shopping malls, hypermarkets, popular F&B chains, banks, cinemas, banquet hall, and upcoming developments like a sports arena and large petrol station, plus the newly opened Pan-Borneo Highway, Benoni Parklane City is set to become a key commercial hub. Susan praised the DOJO team's youthful energy and visionary mindset, noting that they bring fresh vitality to the township. 'DOJO adds more variety to our food scene and delivers top-notch service. We deeply appreciate DOJO's trust in choosing Benoni Parklane City for one of their key outlets. 'We will continue to support all investors, help create more jobs for locals, and uplift Papar's economy,' she added. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Fadillah, also Energy Transition Minister, noted Russia's experience and advanced technology could support Malaysia's energy goals under the National Energy Transition Roadmap. During his four-day visit, Fadillah met Russian Deputy PM Alexey Overchuk and Rosatom chief Alexey Likhachev, discussing nuclear tech transfer, legal frameworks, training, and power grid upgrades. He said Cabinet had agreed in principle to consider nuclear power in Malaysia's future energy mix to reduce reliance on coal and gas. Borneo key in Indonesia's nuclear push
Published on: Saturday, June 28, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jun 28, 2025 Text Size: For illustrative purposes via Unsplash Indonesia has taken a major step toward building its first commercial nuclear power plant, with PT Thorcon Power Indonesia submitting licensing documents for a molten salt reactor (MSR) project on Kelasa Island, Central Bangka. Thorcon, a Singapore-based company, aims to deploy a 500 MW MSR prototype, eventually expanding to local manufacturing. The plant is based on U.S.-developed technology using thorium, a metal more abundant than uranium and with high energy potential. Indonesia sees nuclear as key to its net-zero goals, with the International Energy Agency estimating nuclear could contribute 5 percent to its 2050 emissions cuts, according to NucNet . Borneo figures prominently in this vision. A U.S.-backed small modular reactor (SMR) site has been identified in West Kalimantan, while Danish and Indonesian firms plan a Borneo-based SMR facility to produce low-emission ammonia. Russia has also expressed interest in collaborating on nuclear projects, including floating reactors suitable for the archipelagic nation. Indonesia expects nuclear energy to enter the national grid before 2040. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Telegram acted on less than half of takedown requests
KUALA LUMPUR: Telegram has the lowest compliance rate among major social media platforms in Malaysia, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said that the platform acted on fewer than half of the takedown requests submitted by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). "Telegram has acted on less than 50 per cent of the takedown requests we submitted. "Among all platforms, they have shown the lowest level of cooperation with the Malaysian government," he said at a press conference after attending the Nadi Aspirasi Nasional Bersama Anak Muda (Nanba) Programme at IWK Eco Park here. He said this days after MCMC filed a civil lawsuit against Telegram and two of its high-profile channels, Edisi Siasat and Edisi Khas, over content allegedly published in breach of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. The regulator said the material disseminated on the two channels could undermine trust in public institutions and threaten social order. MCMC described the lawsuit as a landmark move, marking the first time legal action has been taken against a social media platform with a local licence. Telegram is currently registered as an application service provider (class) in Malaysia. "The move follows Telegram's serious failure to address content that has been repeatedly reported to it, despite multiple negotiation and cooperation efforts by MCMC," the commission said in a statement. Fahmi said the platform's lack of responsiveness is particularly concerning as it is increasingly used to spread illicit content such as online gambling ads and pirated films or TV shows. He added Telegram representatives are expected to meet with MCMC in Kuala Lumpur this week to resume discussions on compliance and enforcement. "Telegram operates with a small global team estimated at around 50 employees, despite having roughly one billion users. "They rely heavily on automation and AI for moderation, but differences in legal frameworks between countries cannot justify ignoring Malaysian regulations," he said. Between Jan 1 and June 26 this year, MCMC received 188,528 complaints involving various digital platforms, of which 173,642 resulted in content takedowns. Online gambling made up the largest portion, followed by scams, bullying and harassment, and obscene content involving children.
