Man arrested over 'murder' after beer garden 'assault' leaves man dead
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another man died following an alleged attack in a pub beer garden.
Police were called to the Market Inn in Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire, at around 9.10pm on Sunday, June 8, after reports of a serious assault.
A man in his 30s was rushed to hospital with severe injuries but tragically died two days later on Tuesday, June 10, despite frantic efforts from emergency services to save him.
A 30-year-old man was arrested the following day on suspicion of murder, and a 51-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
A third person, a 31-year-old man who had earlier been arrested on suspicion of affray, has since been released with no further action.
Officers carried out extensive inquiries, including trawling through CCTV footage, before making arrests. They confirmed no weapons are beloeved to have been used in the incident.
Police are urging witnesses to come forward for more information on the events that unfolded on Sunday night.
Detective Inspector Matt Scott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "I'd firstly like to pass on my sincere condolences to the victim's family and loved ones.
"They are currently being supported by specially trained officers through what must be an incredibly distressing time. We can confirm that this is now a murder investigation and that a suspect has been located and arrested on suspicion of this offence.

Officers swarmed the popular campsite on Thursday as they promised extra patrols in an attempt to reassure the local community. Police have been pouring through CCTV footage and say they are carrying out enquiries in the local area. Senior detectives have appealed to campers for help and asked anyone who saw something suspicious to get in touch. They have described their investigation as "significant" into what they say will be a "worrying and upsetting" incident for residents. Detective Inspector Christopher Macleod said: 'This sexual assault was carried out on a young boy, who was camping overnight with his family and it is vital we trace the man responsible as soon as possible. A dedicated team of officers are carrying out investigations, including carrying out enquiries in the local area and reviewing all available CCTV footage. "I would urge anyone who was staying in the Drumnadrochit area to come forward, as any piece of information, no matter how small or insignificant you think it is, could prove vital. Monique Ellen Burton, 35, admitted to interfering with a corpse when she appeared at Geraldton Magistrates Court in Western Australia last November. She returned to Perth District Court this week to be sentenced over the harrowing case, reports the Mirror. The court was told Burton gave birth to a baby boy in August 2022, claiming he was stillborn. But an investigation was unable to determine whether the child had ever shown signs of life. Burton's partner, Shaun Bradley Balaam, found the tiny infant's body stuffed in a plastic bag and believed it was a baby due to the shape, but instead of calling for help, he placed it in a chest freezer in their garden in Geraldton. The grim discovery only came to light after Burton turned up at hospital and doctors realised she had recently given birth. Cops were called and a full search of the home uncovered the child, reports ABC News. Defence lawyer Anthony Elliot said his client had long-standing emotional issues around pregnancy. A psychological report presented in court said Burton suffers from adjustment disorder, depressive episodes, anxiety, grief, and relationship struggles. Prosecutor Jehna Winter told the court Burton had managed to hide the pregnancy from everyone, including her long-term partner, doctors and authorities. Alongside the corpse charge, Burton is also facing 11 counts of fraud after allegedly setting up a fake fundraiser for a non-existent illness - pocketing AU$560 (£272) from concerned friends, relatives and good samaritans. The day after the secret birth, Balaam found Burton - his partner of 14 years - pale and covered in blood in the bathroom. She was rushed to hospital, where medics flagged signs of postnatal depression. But when questioned, Burton denied ever having had a baby. While she remained in hospital, Balaam went back to the house to search for a lost mobile phone and stumbled across the baby's remains. He didn't open the bag but suspected it was a baby, recalling that Burton had hidden previous pregnancies from him too. He wrapped the bag inside another one and placed it in the freezer, telling authorities he thought he was handling it the same way a morgue would. Even after being flown to King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth, Burton continued to deny giving birth. "I don't know what is wrong with me," she told hospital staff. Cops searched the property and found the baby in the freezer. She was arrested in January 2024, and told police she couldn't remember what happened - adding that she thought it was a dream. Her sentencing is due to be carried out later today at Perth District Court.

Today (Friday August 1) at around 5.30am, uniformed and firearm officers were spotted on Allan Park in Hill of Beath, Fife, executing a warrant. A 30-year-old man and 27-year-old woman have been arrested as police enquiries continue. Photographs from the scene showed eight police vehicles parked outside the property. Officers equipped in riot gear and holding guns were pictured on the street. Police dogs were also spotted being used in the raid. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 5.30am on Friday, 1 August, 2025, a warrant was executed at Allan Park, Hill of Beath. "Uniformed and firearms officers attended. 'A 30-year-old man and 27-year-old woman have been arrested. ' Enquiries are ongoing.' Earlier this month, in a separate incident, we reported that armed police were captured raiding a Lochgelly property after a man was raced to hospital following an attempted murder bid. Officers raided a property in the Main Street area of Lochgelly at around 1.40pm Sunday, July 20, after an injured man attended Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy on Saturday. The 30-year-old is understood to have sustained a serious injury and was transferred to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for further treatment. Police Scotland, who also attended Buller Street in the town, are treating the incident as attempted murder. However, no one has been arrested and the force's enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Photographs from the raid show around six officers, equipped with riot gear, forcing their way into a home. Other cops were seen standing guard near the two police vehicles beneath the property. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 1.40pm on Sunday, 20 July, officers executed a warrant at a property in the Main Street area of Lochgelly after an injured man attended at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
