Haunting Netflix true-crime series about 'Satanic cult' killer races up chart
A 'fascinating' true-crime series about one of the most notorious serial-killers in history has soared up the rankings on Netflix.
Mixing present-day interviews with previously unheard recordings, Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes examines David Berkowitz's mark on 1970s New York.
Now 72, Berkowitz carried out a murderous 13-month rampage in the American city between 1976 and 1977, during which he killed six women and wounded eleven others.
Armed with a .44 Special calliber revolver for most of his crimes, eventually he was arrested in August 1977 for eight shootings. He confessed to them all and was sentenced to six consecutive life sentences in 1978.
Now, Netflix's new three-part series features audio of past interviews the killer did with Rochester Democrat and Chronicle journalist Jack Jones.

It also contains a new interview with Berkowitz, who is serving a life sentence in upstate New York.
As well as this, victims' loved ones and researchers shed light on this period in New York history.
Reacting to the series on X, many fans have highlighted the new information it provides.
@maoshisa1981 described it as a 'fascinating listen', adding: 'The unreleased Berkowitz recordings sound like a chilling deep dive into the case.'
Meanwhile, @CriticSusan added: 'Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes may be one of their best true crime docu-series. @Netflix.'
Towards the beginning of the series, viewers are shown how the Bronx native was adopted in 1953 before he became the '.44 Caliber Killer' and 'Son of Sam' due to the signature he left on letters at crime scenes and sent to media outlets.
When Berkowitz was finally arrested and put on trial, he claimed his neighbor's dog, Sam, was possessed by a demon and commanded him to kill.
But, in an interview from 1980 we hear how Berkowitz fabricated this story to create confusion and manipulate the media and law enforcement.
A character playing Berkowitz also featured in another Netflix series by David Fincher called Mindhunter, which ran for two seasons.
In June it was teased that the rudely axed series could be getting a Hollywood makeover for a film revival.
There is a potential to bring back the show as not only one movie but an entire trilogy, with creator Fincher carefully vetting the scripts. More Trending
Holt McCallany, who starred as FBI special agent Bill Tench, recently spoke to the Fight Club director.
'I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it's just a chance,' he told CBR.
'I know there are writers that are working, but you know, David has to be happy with scripts.'

Emmerdale confirms new drugs horror as big new story kicks off
Dylan Penders' (Fred Kettle) return to Emmerdale came as a very welcome surprise for April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan). The young man who befriended her when she was living on the streets after running away from home had returned to the village after completing a stint in rehab. He was clean of drugs, he told April, although it was clear that Dylan is still mixed up in some very dodgy stuff. For one thing, there was a nasty wound on his leg, which viewers know was caused by a pitchfork wielded by Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) after he caught Dylan and another person lurking in the barn at Butlers. As the days have gone on, the wound has become infected. The fact that Dylan has been living in the cricket pavilion hasn't helped, and he's steadfastly refused to go to A&E because he knows that some serious questions would be asked about how he was injured. So in Monday (August 4)'s episode, Dylan was in a bad way and starting to get feverish. April knew something had to be done, and as she has access to a fully functioning vet's surgery she took him there. Somewhat less confidently she added that she might have a go at stitching it. Luckily before we had to witness the carnage that might have ensued from that, an actual vet appeared in the form of Paddy (Dominic Brunt). He quickly assessed the situation, and realised that Dylan wouldn't be persuaded to see a doctor and without treatment could mean he'd lose his leg. 'He'll look like a balloon animal in an hour,' Paddy insisted. It's an enduring image. So at the risk of his career, Paddy stitched up the wound himself and gave Dylan the antibiotics left over from when he was bitten by a dog, and swore Dylan and April to secrecy about what he'd done. Then he said Dylan could stay at his and Mandy (Lisa Riley)'s house, where Marlon (Mark Charnock) and Mandy were somewhat shocked to find him. More Trending Later, on Paddy's suggestion, Mandy took Dylan and April to the Hide for a pizza. While Dylan was outside alone, he was approached by drug dealer Ray (Joe Absolom) who gave him some cash and pretended to be concerned about Dylan's injured leg – which of course had happened while Dylan was on a job for him. And Ray said he had a 'tiny' new job for him. Back at Tenants, Paddy was cross that Dylan had stayed out when he was supposed to be resting his leg. And when Dylan returned and Mandy was out of the room we saw that Dylan's rucksack was full of drugs. It looks like Ray's 'tiny' job wasn't so tiny after all, and Dylan has been roped into Ray's latest drug dealing scheme. In coming episodes Dylan will be torn between the genuine help and support offered by April, Paddy and others, and Ray's manipulation which could threaten his entire future – and his life. Pamela Anderson breaks silence on Meghan Markle's 'rip off' show
Pamela Anderson has finally spoken out on viral claims Meghan Markle 'ripped off' her cooking show with Netflix series , With Love, Meghan. Fans of the Baywatch bombshell, 58, were left incensed when the former working Royal, 44, debuted her latest TV venture - which bore eerie similarities to Pamela's Cooking With Love, which premiered earlier this year on Prime Video. The Baywatch star Anderson opened up on Sunday's Watch What Happens Live! - with host Andy Cohen asking her: 'On a scale from one to 10, how much of a rip-off did you feel like With Love, Meghan was of your show, Pamela's Cooking with Love?' Anderson, who was appearing alongside new love and co-star Liam Neeson responded: 'One. I didn't - I didn't really look, but I mean, I didn't invent cooking shows' adding that Markle 'is just doing her thing.' The drama erupted when Prince Harry 's wife gave People magazine some of her top domestic tips ahead of the release of With Love, Meghan, in March. These included how to 'elevate' a normal dinner – such as after ordering a takeaway, for example. Citing Chinese as a favorite delivery option, Markle told the US magazine: 'I like being able to do a hybrid, but even when I get a takeout I will try to plate it beautifully.' And discussing her new trademark As Ever – after she failed to secure copyright branding for her original name, American Riviera Orchard – she insisted: 'It's a learning curve. 'I appreciate everyone who gave me the grace to make mistakes and figure it out and also be forgiving with myself through that.' The two former TV stars live more than a thousand miles apart, yet both were smiling and giggling in brightly lit country kitchens, filming aspirational cooking with photogenic friends and famous celebrities. Both are seen carrying wicker baskets of fruit and vegetables picked from their gardens, dancing with joy, and gleefully high-fiving their celebrity guests. Both series are even the same length: eight episodes. When Meghan's first episode was shown, it prompted withering complaints that she had copied Pamela's winning formula. 'So similar it's freaky,' said one reviewer, while others branded Meghan's series 'inauthentic' and 'copycat'. More charitable observers might put this down to coincidence, as neither show seems to deviate from the wholesome template of many an aspirational cookery program. However, while Markle filmed her series last summer, with the first trailer making its debut in January, Anderson's was commissioned back in February 2023 by Canadian broadcaster Flavour Network. And its trailer has been available for all to see since last October. Last month it was claimed Markle and Prince Harry's hopes of a new Netflix deal are 'dead' after their two most recent shows flopped. Meghan's lifestyle show failed to break into Netflix 's top 300 programs for the first half of 2025 and was even thrashed by multiple seasons of Suits. A second season of With Love, Meghan, was announced by the Duchess herself as the first season came out in March this year as part of the couple's $100million deal with the streaming giant, which expires this year.

Duchess of Sussex birthday picture celebrates her ‘magic'
A new image of the Duchess of Sussex has been shared to mark her 44th birthday. The Duchess, pictured in black and white, can be seen smiling with a garden in the background. It was published on the Instagram account of her lifestyle business, As Ever, on Monday afternoon. The accompanying caption states: 'Celebrating the woman behind it all. 'She pours her heart, vision and magic touch into every detail, and today, we raise a glass to her! 'Happy Birthday to our founder.' Meghan's business, for which she has partnered with Netflix, was officially launched in April. Among the products for sale were raspberry jam, wildflower honey, shortbread biscuit mix and edible flower sprinkles. More recently, the Duchess has launched her own rosé wine. The launch was coupled with her lifestyle show on Netflix, titled With Love, Meghan, which features the Duchess promoting a domestic idyll. Though widely panned by critics, the streaming giant has renewed it for a second season, which is being released this autumn.
