Samsung's New Generation MicroSD Memory Card With Adapter Is Practically Free on Amazon

Gizmodo02-06-2025
Save 33% at Amazon and expand the space on your smartphone, gaming console, tablet, and more with this crazy-fast new generation micro SD card.
You would be hard pressed to find a more universal or more reliable form of expanded storage than a micro SD card, and Samsung has been the world's No. 1 flash memory brand for over 20 years. One of Samsung's fastest and most versatile micro SD cards, the EVO Select Micro SD, is the star of a limited-time sale at Amazon, where you can get the 256GB new generation version for just $20, a 33% price drop from the regular $30 price.
It's not quite a universal truth yet, but if you have a tech device, chances are its storage can be expanded with a micro SD card. Start with laptop and desktop computers — the EVO Select works with PCs and Macs — then move on to smartphones and tablets, where the EVO Select is universally compatible across iOS, Android, and Google devices. Add in cameras, drones, dash cams, even gaming consoles and handhelds like the Nintendo Switch, and you'll find you have more use for a large-capacity micro SD card than you probably realized.

Tiny, Speedy Storage
The Samsung EVO Select is a U3 micro SD card, meaning it's part of the Ultra High Speed (UHD) class. It can perform sequential reads at up to 130 MB/s, so your smartphone and tablet apps or your gaming console or handheld aren't bogged down by a laggy memory card.
If you're using a camera or other device to shoot video, the EVO Select can easily keep up with Full HD and 4K UHD files, which you can then easily transfer to another device. The EVO Select also comes with an adapter so it can also fit in SD card slots, in case your device does not have a micro SD slot.
Size Matters Not
If you're concerned about a data device only 0.03 inches thick and 0.3 ounces in weight being inserted and removed into tech devices and an adapter over and over again, the EVO Select is far, far tougher than it looks. It's so waterproof that it can withstand a 72 hour seawater immersion, and it can function in temperatures ranging from -13 degrees to 185 degrees Fahrenheit, and it's X-ray proof, magnet proof, and drop resistant up to 16 feet. It's also good for 10,000 swipes, so move it between your devices at will without worry.
With the price of the 256GB Samsung EVO Select micro SD card and adapter falling all the way to just $20 at Amazon during this limited-time deal, you might want to take stock of your tech devices to see just how many of them could benefit from a fast, durable, high-capacity storage boost. At this price, it makes sense to order more than just one.

Apple might be building its own AI ‘answer engine'

In Brief Apple has formed a new team to build a ChatGPT-like app, according to according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. This team — reportedly called Answers, Knowledge, and Information — is working to build an 'answer engine' that can respond to questions using information from across the web. This could be a standalone app or provide search capabilities in Siri, Safari, and other Apple products. Gurman also notes that Apple is advertising for jobs with this team, specifically looking for applicants who have experience with search algorithms and engine development. While Apple has already integrated ChatGPT into Siri, a more personalized, AI-powered update to the voice assistant has been repeatedly delayed. Apple might also have to alter its search deal with Google as a result of the latter company's antitrust defeat.

Apple crushes earnings expectations, but stays mum on a major asset

Apple crushes earnings expectations, but stays mum on a major asset originally appeared on TheStreet. Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) reported its third-quarter earnings on July 31, beating Wall Street expectations on almost every front — from profit and revenue to iPhone sales and gross margins. The tech giant posted earnings per share (EPS) of $1.57, well above the expected $1.43, and $94.04 billion in revenue, exceeding forecasts of $89.53 billion. This marks Apple's largest quarterly revenue growth since December 2021. 'It was an exceptional quarter by any measure,' said CEO Tim Cook, speaking to CNBC after the report dropped. Apple's most important business — the iPhone — led the charge. iPhone revenue surged 13% year-over-year to $44.58 billion, boosted in part by strong sales of the iPhone 16, which Cook said saw 'strong double-digit' growth over its predecessor. Investors are keeping an eye on the tech behemoth for another reported addition. A new Fortune report revealed that Apple is in early discussions with fellow tech giants Airbnb and Google to introduce stablecoins, aiming to bring them into the mainstream for facilitating cross-border payments and reducing trading costs. Stablecoins could enable Apple to maximize transaction fees around the world, sources say — an indication that the technology company is making bigger moves into digital finance. Analysts, however, are not expecting a huge revenue boost, as Trump has threatened a 25% tax on iPhones unless they are made in the US, resulting in margin pressure on quarter three and quarter also has uncertainty around its $20 billion-per-year agreement with Google, which is at risk as a judge considers how to rule in the DOJ's antitrust case, as per reports. Reports also mention analysts like BofA's Wamsi Mohan say the attention will be on margin performance and iPhone revenue, which they see rising slightly to $39.8 billion. While Apple has not directly entered the crypto industry, it has eased up previous restrictions on crypto applications. Further, as of May, Apple Pay also supports stablecoin transactions with payment service provider, Mesh. The integration allows consumers to spend USDC and USDT at checkout and convert them to fiat in real-time. Google Just Cut The Price Of The Pixel 9a To Its Lowest-Ever, But Not For Long

Google released its latest smartphone, the Pixel 9a, in April 2025. It was already the most affordable smartphone in the range, but Google has just announced a new price, $100 off, but only for the next two weeks. The Pixel 9a went on sale for $499 for the model with 128GB storage. It comes in four colors, peony, which is a blazing-bright pink color, iris (a sort of purple), plus two quieter shades, porcelain and obsidian (off-white and black). It came with an evolved design: the raised camera bar of the Pixel 9 series has been replaced by a pair of lenses that barely protrude at all. It has Google's Gemini AI baked in, a battery that the company claims lasts all day and seven years of updates. 13-megaixel front-facing camera. There's a 13-megapixel front-facing camera and two rear cameras, one with 48 megapixel resolution, and an ultra wide with a 13-megapixel sensor. At $499, it is priced at $300 less than the regular Pixel 9 (which costs $799) and $100 less than the Pixel 8 Pro from 2023. But right now, it's cheaper still, with the Pixel 9a with 128GB storage available with $100 off, dropping the price to $399. This price is available direct from Google from its store in the U.S. This offer is only available for two weeks, that is, until Aug. 17, 2025 at 11.59 Pacific. You could choose the model with more storage, 256GB, which has also dropped in price and is available for as long as the offer runs for $499 instead of $599. Again, Google has all four colors available at this storage level, too. This reduced price, which represents 20% off the 128GB model and 17% off the 256GB version, is also available from Amazon, which has all four colors for the smaller storage capacity, and obsidian and iris for the larger-capacity model.
