Bernama CEO Receives ‘Women Of The Decade' Honour At WEF ASEAN 2025
WEF ASEAN 2025 president Datin Dr Hartini Osman, speaking on the sidelines of the event, said the award honours Nur-ul Afida's leadership and steadfast commitment to the advancement of the media industry.
"On behalf of WEF, we congratulate Bernama CEO Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida. She was conferred the Women of the Decade award in recognition of her potential and the significant achievements she has made in her field of leadership.
'With this award, we hope it will further inspire her to continue elevating the role of women, not only in Malaysia but globally,' she told Bernama at the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) today.
Nur-ul Afida was appointed CEO of Bernama on February 27 last year. Before that, in October 2023, she made history as the first woman to be appointed editor-in-chief of the national news agency since its establishment in 1967.
A well-recognised figure in Malaysian journalism, Nur-ul Afida was appointed to the Administrative Council of the Malaysian Press Institute on May 16 last year.
In recognition of her trailblazing leadership and role in inspiring a new generation of women in journalism, she was honoured with the Luminary Media Award by the National Press Club at its Diamond Jubilee Awards ceremony on Sept 27, 2023.
Nur-ul Afida was, however, unable to attend today's award presentation by the Prime Minister's wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as she is currently in St. Petersburg, Russia, attending the General Assembly of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies.
At the event, Dr Wan Azizah also presented the Women of the Decade award to Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif, and former Communications and Multimedia Ministry Secretary-General Tan Sri Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad.

KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, will undertake a state visit to Russia from Aug 5 to 10, at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin. In a statement on Saturday (Aug 2), Istana Negara announced that His Majesty will make history as the first Malaysian Head of State to conduct a state visit to Russia since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1967. "This visit also reflects the important role of the Malaysian monarchy in advancing the nation's diplomacy," it said. Istana Negara added that the visit will not only strengthen existing bilateral relations but also open new avenues for cooperation in various fields, including trade, higher education, technology, innovation, and people-to-people ties. As Asean Chair in 2025, Malaysia will also play a major role in enhancing strategic cooperation, particularly in the context of Russia's status as an ASEAN Dialogue Partner since 1996, it added. While in Moscow, Istana Negara said His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim will be accorded a state welcome ceremony at the Kremlin by President Vladimir Putin, followed by an official meeting between the two Heads of State. "His Majesty will also attend a state banquet hosted by the President of the Russian Federation," Istana Negara said. New water tariff rates in Melaka effective Aug 1 for sustainable supply
MELAKA: Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad (SAMB) has implemented new water tariff rates effective August 1 to ensure the sustainability and stability of the state's water supply system. The adjustment aims to prepare for future challenges while minimising the impact on domestic users. In a statement, SAMB clarified that the revised rates would not burden the majority of households, particularly the 312,396 registered users who consume water prudently. The changes also affect 48,788 non-domestic accounts, including businesses, industries, government agencies, and charitable institutions, ensuring a fairer contribution to water service costs. The updated tariff structure includes: • Domestic (Residential): Minimum charge of RM9.40, with rates ranging from RM0.94/m³ for 0-20 cubic metres to RM2.26/m³ for usage exceeding 35 cubic metres. • Domestic (Residential Bulk Meter): A flat rate of RM2.22/m³ with a minimum charge of RM25. • Business/Industry/Government: Rates start at RM2.66/m³ for 0-35 cubic metres, increasing to RM2.72/m³ beyond that threshold, with a minimum charge of RM26.60. • Places of Worship/Charitable Institutions: Fixed at RM1.01/m³ with a minimum charge of RM10.10. • Shipping: A steep rate of RM8.02/m³ with an RM80.20 minimum charge. • Data Centres: Charged RM5.32/m³, with a minimum fee of RM53.20. SAMB emphasised that the revised tariffs will fund critical infrastructure projects, including the expansion of the Jus and Jernih Water Treatment Plants, pipeline upgrades across Melaka, and improved sludge waste management.
