Methodist church in Boston gets £250,000 for renovation work
The Reverend Val Ogden told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "We need to do things like doors and floors and walls."We had damp problems to fix. RNLI rescues 19 migrants from English Channel after dinghy capsizes
Dramatic footage released by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) shows volunteers rescuing migrants from the English Channel after their small boat capsized in 2024. The never-before-seen footage, released on Tuesday, depicts the Dover RNLI crew responding to a mayday call when a dinghy with 19 individuals onboard sank. All of the migrants were successfully rescued from the water by the volunteers, who threw flotation devices and helped them onto the lifeboat. Berkshire fire service opens new training centre
A state-of-the-art fire training centre has opened in Reading, replacing a previous facility damaged by flooding in Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) officially unveiled its new Learning and Development Centre in Whitley Wood on modular building - constructed offsite and installed in just four days - features solar panels, LED lighting and electric vehicle charging chief fire officer Wayne Bowcock said the centre was "befitting of a modern fire and rescue service" and would help staff "effectively serve the people of Berkshire." The facility is designed to host realistic training scenarios. Mayor of Reading Alice Mpofu-Coles, local MP Yuan Yang and councillors from across the county joined for the opening celebration for the new and chair of Royal Berkshire Fire Authority Jeff Brooks said he was "very pleased" with the new centre."This fantastic new facility represents a significant investment by the Fire Authority into our staff and will help prepare the Service to meet the changing needs of communities across Berkshire for years to come," he said. Maryport Christ Church window damage delays museum opening
Damage to the windows of a Grade II listed church have been blamed for yet another delay in its Church in Maryport, Cumbria, is undergoing major renovation to reopen as the town's Maritime was initially expected to finish in spring 2024, but Cumberland Council, which is behind the project, said the museum would now open in autumn authority said some of the building's windows were more damaged than initially thought, leading to delays in repairing and replacing them.
