Chelsea land transfer boost as £21.5m deal agreed with Premier League team
Djordje Petrovic is set to remain in the Premier League with the Serbian goalkeeper set to join Sunderland in a transfer which will net Chelsea a cool £21.5m.
Petrovic, 25, caught the eye on loan with the Blues' sister team, Strasbourg, in France last year and is keen to get out and play regular football rather than return to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea already being linked with several keepers this summer.
The Serbia international was left out of the Blues squad for the Club World Cup in order to seek a move ahead of the new season for that reason.
And Petrovic is set to find a new home with Sunderland pushing to get a deal done for the former New England Revolution star.
As reported by The Telegraph, Sunderland are close to sealing a £21.5m swoop to bring Petrovic in following their promotion via the Championship play-offs back in May.
Should they get a deal over the line with Chelsea, Petrovic would become the latest big-money addition to join the Black Cats, who are splashing the cash in an attempt to survive next season.
They are also closing in on a £17.3m deal for the Saint-Gilloise midfielder, Noah Sadicki, who underwent a medical on Wednesday. They have already wrapped a permanent deal for loan star Enzo Le Fee and signed Habib Diarra for a club-record fee.
Petrovic will compete with Anthony Patterson for the No.1 berth at the Stadium of Light.

He originally signed for Chelsea two years ago and made 31 first-team appearances under Mauricio Pochettino during his maiden season at Stamford Bridge. But Robert Sanchez has since been installed as the Blues' first-choice keeper under Enzo Maresca, with Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders also in the building.
Chelsea attempted to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan before the Club World Cup before talks with the Italian giants over a switch for the Frenchman broke down.
It remains to be seen if they will rekindle that interest - or target another keeper - before the start of the new season, though reports since have indicated that Maresca is content with his current goalkeeping options.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., July 5 (Reuters) - Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac called for later kickoff times after his players again laboured through scorching heat in a dramatic 3-2 defeat by Real Madrid in their Club World Cup quarter-final at 3 p.m. ET (1900 GMT) on Saturday in New Jersey. Dortmund played in temperatures exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) last month for a group stage game at the same time of day in Cincinnati. Scorching temperatures at the Club World Cup have raised concerns for the 2026 World Cup, where a record 48 teams will face off in the quadrennial global spectacle in the sweltering North American summer. Soccer's world governing body, FIFA, have implemented cooling breaks and mitigating measures, but coaches and players have complained, with frequent afternoon kickoff times making teams compete in direct sun. Palmer clears up chat with Chelsea new boy Estevao after team-mate stepped in
Palmeiras wonderkid Estevao Willian scored on his final appearance for his current club before joining Chelsea and was seen chatting to his new teammates post-match Cole Palmer admitted Estevao Willian could not understand him - but says they will have a perfect connection next season. Palmeiras wonderkid Estevao, 18, scored against Chelsea in their Club World Cup quarter final - but could not stop his new club banking a £60m pay day. Chelsea reached the semi finals in New York on Tuesday when they will face Fluminese but got a glimpse of the future because Estevao has agreed a £29.1m-plus deal to move to Stamford Bridge this summer. England star Palmer was hugely impressed as he saw Estevao up close for the first time but the Brazil starlet will probably need to work on his English. Thankfully Portuguese team-mate Dario Essugo was on hand to translate the message between the soon-to-be colleagues. Palmer went up to his future team mate after Chelsea's win over Palmeiras and revealed: 'I just said we look forward to seeing you - but he didn't understand that word I said! 'He's a top player. Estevao has already played for Brazil, is seen as a generational talent in his own country and has been billed as the best prospect since Neymar. Palmer knows a thing or two about being in the spotlight and is clearly relishing joining up with Estevao who caught the eye with a wonder goal. It had everyone in the stadium open-mouthed with a brilliant piece of skill as the ball crashed in off the crossbar. But Chelsea came through in the end and have now got another Brazilian opponent in the MetLife Stadium, having now knocked out Palmeiras and they lost to Flamengo in the Group stage. There is no doubt that Chelsea are growing in confidence and stature in this tournament and will now be favourites to reach the final as they are in the easier half of the draw. But Palmer says they are growing in confidence and belief as they come through the tournament and now genuinely believe they can win it. He said: 'I feel like the Brazilian teams are more physical, more rough. We know they're a good team, so it's difficult to play against them. But if we match them, I think we can show our quality, and that's what we did. 'We've played two already now, two very good teams, so it's going to be another tough game. Obviously it's good to be the last English team and hopefully we can win it. 'I think we're getting used to being here. The climate is obviously a big thing, and the pitches. So the more the tournament's gone on, the better we've got. 'Every game is tough, no matter who you play. Obviously, everyone's here for a reason. We also have a set-piece coach and he's trying to give us different ideas and stuff. I think it's working.' Palmer also paid a glowing tribute to Joao Pedro as Chelsea's new £60m signing came on for his debut and helped change the quarter final in their favour. Pedro looked sharp and made a difference. Palmer gave Chelsea the lead, Estevao equalised but it was Malo Gusto's cross which was deflected in for the decisive own goal to seal the win. Palmer added: 'I think he did very well. I think he changed the game for us. Obviously, he's been on holiday in Brazil and we didn't know what to expect from in terms of match sharpness and them things. 'But I think he changed the game. Noni Madueke and Joao, obviously, were really good and made a difference.'
